He's not going to get a deal unless Ferdinand suddenly gets injured again, and even then I'd fancy Wootton to be given the nod. We just need to make it to the international break without further injury, then Smalling should be able to lighten the load on Rio and Jonny.
Cluj tomorrow and Newcastle Sunday should be fine for Ferdinand and Evans, then we've got two weeks before Ferdinand may need to play again against Stoke at Old Trafford. Just wrap him up for that time... Probably sub on Smalling against Stoke for Rafael, or the other way around. I think Stoke and Braga at Home will be ideal for Smalling to get some minutes in before he's benched for Chelsea in the League (then he can start against Chelsea in the League Cup too).
All of this is provided we don't suffer further injury... Surprised to see no Giggs in clunge though. From that squad, I'd fancy:
de Gea
Rafael Ferdinand Evans Büttner
Fletcher
Cleverley Anderson
Nani Rooney Welbeck
--
Lindegaard; Wootton; Tunnicliffe, Powell, Kagawa; van Persie, Hernandez
It will probably be Evra over Tunnicliffe on the bench purely to make it look stronger, but the substitutions would probably be attacking ones anyway, so we should be looking at the attacking four towards the end of that bench
After some substitutions, I reckon we'll end up with Cleverley on the left wing and Kagawa or Powell behind Rooney (who will probably get replaced by Hernandez too).
The personnel and potential formation does look a bit odd though as I can see Cleverley, Kagawa, and Powell all wanting to play behind the striker, it's difficult to see which one would start and who will be forced to play out of position. So, I reckon Cleverley out wide, Powell deeper, and Kagawa in the middle at some stage.
