Champions League 2014/15

Is it on purpose? I thought it was a typo.
It's on purpose. It's a slightly archaic way of writing Porto in English. Though I've never seen it applied to Porto the club, only the city.

Also team of the year with obligatory John Terry and 6 Barcelona players in it.
The UEFA team last year wasn't that bad, nowhere near as bad as the FIFA Ballon d'Or team. Not a single Barca player made the UEFA team, not even Messi, while Barca had more players in the FIFA team than Bayern.

UEFA team 2013:

Ronaldo Ibrahimovic
Ribery Reus Özil Bale
Alaba Silva Ramos Lahm
Neuer

vs FIFA team 2013:

Ronaldo Ibra Messi
Ribery Xavi Iniesta
Lahm Silva Ramos Alves
Neuer

The Ballon d'Or and everything around it really became a popularity contest, it's one big joke. Not that the UEFA team is much better, but at least the favouritism of Real and Barca is nowhere near as big and they somehow manage to reward players from smaller clubs as well (sometimes).

I can't believe this! Malmö FF in the Champions League!

What a game! One of the best atmospheres I've seen at a live football game. It was better than any United game I've been to. I can barely talk today due to the singing and screaming from yesterday.

I get CL football this year after all! :)

Hoping for

Real
PSG
Liverpool
Malmö

GET IN!!!
Nice!

Alves

UEFA one makes sense though. I reckon at least two Atletico players have to make it this time, Courtois and Godin I think.

Really happy for you, must be so exciting! I can understand a 'smaller' team wanting big clubs in the group stages, when there's little chance they'll get out of the group. How do you rate Malmö's chances of making it into the knock outs? No chance, or a glimmer of hope?

Neuer is one of three players nominated for the player of the year award, I highly doubt that they'll leave him out of their best XI.

Neuer deserves all the accolades he's going to get for the World Cup where he was largely excellent, in CL though Bayern were knocked out having conceded 5 goals in semis while Courtois was pivotal in his team reaching the final and nearly winning it. I agree it'll be Neuer though.

If I'm not mistaken the UEFA team of the year is an internet poll and with all the hype around Neuer, I'd be very surprised if he doesn't make the team. I agree that Courtois was incredible last season for Atletico and without the world cup, he would have deserved it more than Neuer.

To be fair, i didn't rate our chances against Sparta Prague or RB Salzburg at all.. Who knows!!

Beating Salzburg 3-0 is a shock! I watched them in the Europa league last year. They ripped teams apart.

There was a time when they did this in the morning and took care of things in 30 minutes.

fecking commercial world. I hate it. A bore fest that no one will enjoy, but that will be milked for profit with sponsors and TV adds.

Have no idea why it's done so late, was it the same last year? Don't watch it anymore as it's a huge borefest and that bloke Infantino just does my head in.

I don't think that is a nightmare draw for Liverpool... :/

Watch them get Porto/Benfica, Basel/Zenit, and some turd from Pot 4.

I really don't care who we get, so long as it isn't a long trek somewhere in far flung Eastern Europe.

I'd love to see us play Barca, PSG and Monaco ! However Benfica, Basel and Maribor wouldn't be bad either ;)

The Di Maria stuff was restoring my feel good factor, then I see this and remember we're not in the European Cup...

Christ we could get Dortmund, Athletic Bilbao and Roma :nervous:

Shaktar Gala and Maribor please!

That's rubbish. I write the full name of clubs like they appear of UEFA.com. Not a difficult task to shorten them correctly when needed.

I swear I'll kick somebody's teeth in if Maribor are drawn against an english side

It´s strange not seeing United´s on the Champions League draw. It´s kind like Porto, it was inevitable. I don´t have any expectation regarding the draw. We usually have bad luck and get the toughest draws. I don´t want Bayern (already been there on an european away), it brings harsh memories. I would want Real Madrid (to see Ronaldo again in Alvalade and perhaps going away to the Bernabeu, depending on my schedule), Dortmund (have simpathy for the team) and probably Mónaco so we can beat our former manager Leonardo Jardim :smirk: I´m just glad Sporting is back in this elite tournament.

I'm pleased for you mate, enjoy it :)

Why? It's highly unlikely they will qualify anyway. Wouldn't you rather play the big teams?
He probably would want them to draw United so he could watch them in his country. Drawing another English side would bring that extra ounce of frustration of being able to watch Liverpool or City and not United. My guess.

Oh i will mate. Already have my Champions League gamebox (your season ticket equivalent but in the specific Champions League context) and it will be a question of seeing if there is a possibility of one or two european aways.

cause me and my friends are mostly fans of english teams (some italian fans, but mostly english)...the ones rooting for Spurs already got to watch them play live when they were drawn against Maribor in the EL, the ones rooting for Chelsea got to see their team play in Slovenia as well, while the ones rooting for Arsenal got to watch them play Udinese (which is actualy a smaller distance away from my hometown than Maribor).

Me on the other hand being a United supporter just never seem to get lucky...the one year I would've gotten to see United live was 2012 had Udinese not completely fecked up against Braga.
Armero first missed this beauty:

then Braga equalised and won via penalties because Maicosuel had to be a smartass and go with the chip that fooled noone, not even your grandma.

This year, for the second time in the club (and country)'s history Maribor made it into the Champions League, and surprise surprise it had to be the one year United aren't in it.
Thanks a lot Moyes, you cnut.

bingo...with the added frustration of basicaly all of my mates getting to see their team except for me.

Really occurring to me how much it sucks that we won't be there when the draw starts in a few minutes. Boring season.

Have to say I'd rather have him for 35 million than Di Maria for 60. I'm glad we have Di Maria but where were we when two clubs we should be able to compete with were fighting it out for this guy?

He didn't want to move to a side that isn't in CL and Arsenal was his preference because of their style. Also Di Maria is twice the player Sanchez is.

I think you know that's not true. He's slightly better at most. Last season was his first one as a 'top-10 in Europe' player.

He is, even Barcelona fans I know admit that. Sanchez is a fine player but Di Maria is truly world class these days (he's improved so much these last 3 years).
