Champions League Final 2016 - 28/05

I didn't think their return fixture against Wolfsburg was that great. Scored from a freekick, a deflected cross, and a corner I believe? Not sure about the other performances.
City games were impressively terrible.

I actually think he was trying to save a shot in the middle, hoping that someone will go for it. I do, however, agree that he diminished his chances massively.

Yes. I think it was a tactical choice and apparently it's a statistically valid tactical choice. Unfortunately for him it looks like the Madrid players were briefed on the same tactic.

As for Ronaldo - I'm not surprised he was so chuffed about it. Last time he took a CL Final penalty shootout kick he missed it. Even for him that memory can't be far below the surface. I was relieved he got it, the same as I was years ago when I saw Roberto Baggio score one.

Really wanted Atletico to win it. They deserve at least one champions league title. Penalties are a lottery though, shame.

I'm pretty annoyed with Oblak's performance in that shoot-out and I'm not even an Athletico fan, I'd love to know what they think.

I know exactly what Pepe can do with that selfie stick.

cnut.

I've never seen a keeper look so bad in a penalty shootout before, he went the same way elverytime and didn't even dive once.....wtf was he doing?

Great pens mind, most of them right in the corner but still at least fecking try save it.

Boring match in general. AM should be very disappointed with themselves - Real are average as feck for all their individual talent on display.

Becks on Instagram under a picture of himself and Zidane :

"Congratulations my friend, couldn't have happened to a nicer and more passionate guy, Hala Madrid"

He probably didn't mean it as a slight dig at Simeone, but coincidentally it could look like this a bit.

Congrats @Vato @Raul Madrid and @carvajal and other Madrid fans.

I would have preferred Atletico but I am happy for Zidane.

I am also wondering if Simeone underestimated Zidane a bit.

Thank you ,I think that Madrid had very good chances and could have finished the final earlier, but then fell asleep .
At the end of the game they were very bad physically. I think if Atlético had pushed a little more they could have won .
Zidane substitutions were a bit strange , perhaps seeking fresh air to score a second goal. In any case I 'm happy for him . No one imagined him winning a Champions few months ago.
Madrid has won two Champions in three years , intruding in the golden age of Barcelona , which is not bad
and making up in the best possible way the bad years in la liga.
Quiet summer now, dedicated to expand the trophy room
Now time to read this mouth watering thread  https://www.redcafe.net/threads/does-anyone-else-really-despise-real-madrid.418032/

Thanks. Honestly though, it feels a bit empty after that shitty performance. On top of that I thought Atletico deserved it more before tonight having beat 2 favourites on their way to the final. This might come over as dishonest but I really wouldn't have mind much losing to them tonight. Maybe I'm getting too old for this and care less about football than I used to.

Maybe it's just because I can't get hammered as I need to get up for work in a few hours or because it's the 11th european cup, which feels a bit pointless so soon after the 10th, which was really very special for us.

Either way, I'll take it though.

I thought Real Madrid were good for the first half hour, but the rest of the 90 minutes belonged to Atletico. The extratime was pretty even, no surprise to see some of the Atletico players hitting their physical limits in that period.

Penalty shootouts are just horrible things, but those TV cameras zooming in on the losing fans make them seem even crueller.

Agreed, bale couldnt run, ronaldo was terrible if Atleti just attacked hard, Real could build a counter because they had nothing left.

Shame atleti just passed it around.

My point is exactly that, he had a nightmare at City, but let's say he is not the only central defender they have signed in the last few years who comes into that category. Look at him now, improved at Fiorentina and now playing in the CL Final. Good on him I say, sorting himself out and now better off than being at City. Good luck to the guy.
Are you just being defensive as he is Montenegrin ? FYI, I'm not Croatian or indeed from Zagreb, it's just a random name, I have nothing against Savic or anyone else from Serbia, or indeed anywhere else, Vidic was an amazing player at OT. A legend.
I actually played in a Sunday League team me and my friends started back in the day, we called ourselves Red Star, who had not long won the European Cup with a brilliant team we all admired.

No, no, it has nothing to do with his national background. On the other side, naming a team Red Star might be a problem... :)
I'm just sensitive when it comes to ex-Partizan players.

I disagree with what you said about his year in City. It wasn't a nightmare, he simply didn't have enough time to show what he's made of, to adapt to the English style of playing etc. No one can assess a player after only 12 games.

I think he played very well tonight and IMHO no one could blame him for the Ramos' goal.

Rough result for Atletico. Thought they were overawed by the occasion in the first half, but they came back well and over 120 minutes were the better team. A word on Torres: the man is a coward. He says this was the biggest game of his career, but he waited for things to happen for him rather than made things happen. His movement in the box was non-existent and he went down in the box for the penalty when he could have easily turned and shot. Chose the safe option rather than taking responsibility himself. If I were Atletico, I wouldn't give him a permanent deal.

Credit to Zidane, who set Real up very well; the energy of the Real players really blew Atletico away in the first 30 minutes. Ronaldo was clearly not fit though, and shouldn't have been on the pitch, that call came very close to costing them the final.

I thought he fecked up on the Ramos goal tbh, but of course on seeing the replay Ramos was clearly offside, so he can't be complained about there.

Good overall game, though.

Hm, I think Ramos fouled him, so that was the reason why he got the advance. They couldn't know if Ramos is offside or not, so the fact that he was cannot be an excuse.

Didn't see the closeup, though, only the replay from the camera behind the linesman. Did Ramos even touch the ball?
