Champions League KO draw: Who do you think we’ll get?

Wherever we are, it's a no brainer than facing Atletico is better than PSG

Not entirely sure that that’s true. Both are tough in very different ways. I wouldn’t be surprised if a few managers (certainly Klopp) would prefer PSG if forced to choose.

AM is a better draw. Liverpool beat them handy enough. Look at how poxy Chelsea are. Them and City always get handy draws.

That's my take away from this. What were the odds of Chelsea drawing Lille twice? The footballing gods really favour them.

Atletico went down to ten men in both of those games and Liverpool still needed a penalty to beat them away. They only scraped through in the group stage, but that group also had Porto (top of their league) and Milan (second in Serie A) in it. I think people are underestimating them, even if they're not as good as they were.

Klopp beat Atletico in the group stages too easily and with the 2nd game full of kids. I think you overrate Atletico immensely

1 in 4 chance of getting the same opponent in a revised draw. If you look for ‘anomalies’ you’re sure to find them.

What were the chances of Utd getting the CL group they got? Probably a lot longer than 1 in 4.

People are thinking of the Atletico team of a few seasons ago , they are a very beatable now. As you said Liverpool had no issues with them , although Liverpool are currently much stronger than us.

My main takeaway from all that absolute nonsense is that they need to simplify the draw and do away with the 'can't draw a team from the same nation' rubbish, which is ridiculous when three nations account for 9 of the 16 teams

Full disclosure; the last Liverpool Atletico match I could remember was the pre-COVID one where Liverpool got knocked out! I should probably pay more attention.
I do think that the current PSG team is much less of a team than their front 3 suggest they should be though. I’m expecting a tough and frustrating game for Utd, but maybe you are right.

Atletico is a better draw than Bayern, PSG and probably Inter as well. Can't really complain about it.

Meanwhile, Chelsea and City continue to be bizarrely lucky as always.

I agree. What's the rationale behind it?

My only concern about Atletico is that a lot can change between now and March. Last year, when Chelsea drew them, they were flying, by the time they played, they were in poor form and didn't even threaten Chelsea at all. With how things have gone for us in the last few years, won't be surprised if the opposite is the case this year. Hopefully, the team is more comfortable and better under Rangnick by then.

Still a tough draw, but I'd take Atletico over PSG simply on the account that we've played the latter often enough and can be a far more dangerous team on song.

It will tough and frustrating without a doubt. It's not an easy draw at all but better than PSG for me

Or Gazprom sponsor the CL and City have their ways...

Looked at in isolation, yeah, it's not out of the ordinary. But for years now Chelsea have had easier draws.

Anyway, nothing anyone can prove and we're not exactly the favourites for the competition anyhow so I'm just pissing in the wind.

You lot are insane if you'd rather play PSG than Atletico. While they're a tough opponent, they're nowhere near as deadly as PSG. We're talking about a team that currently sits 4th in La Liga below Sevilla and fecking Betis, and on equal points with Real Sociedad in 5th. It's a significantly better draw than PSG or Bayern.
This

I dont like it when people hype a match. This versus that, this against that, both full of superstars etc then making dramatic videos of it on Youtube with epic war music from early 2000s films. Because they usually end up with a borefest or a shit match full of refereeing mistakes. So if we're getting Att Madrid, good, it means we are due for a good battle.

Bayern effects Atletico (in terms of alternative opponents for them), but we couldn't have drawn Bayern so I don't know why that makes 'Atletico a better draw than Bayern' as that wasn't an alternative for us.

Our options were PSG, Atletico, Inter, Benfica, Sporting, Salzburg. The last three were far weaker, the first two much the stronger. The only draw worse than Atletico that we could have got was PSG. So both draws were terrible for us. It's the slightly lesser of two tough draws, but it could have been so much better given our only other alternatives.

Not sure but I think he acknowledged that he posted without really having a clue about the draw

Or this… La Liga is an incredibly strong league. The top 3-6 La Liga team often beat the English 1-4 teams. It’s actually arrogance that La Liga is only Barca / Real ( in recent time also Atletico) if you look at results when it matters Sevilla have beaten Liverpool in a final, Villarreal have beaten United, Sevilla Ko’d United, Atletico Ko’d Liverpool, these are just recent example.

They won the Spanish league, a league in which a Villareal side bossed us home and away. I don't think anyone's underestimating them, but it on paper has to be easier than facing Messi-Neymar-Mbappe with our backline of Maguire and Lindelof at current.
