Champions League QFs (11th - 19th April)

Atletico - Leicester was pretty boring. Leicester unlucky as it shouldn't have been a penalty, but they are at least still in it.

With Lewa we should have scored 2-3 more in the first half. in the second half we are lucky that it's only 1:2, could have been 1:5 easily since Javi (and Alonso) were off.

Müller is such a nothing player for more than a year now. Kreisliga-Niveau, at max.

Nah, it's over. Puts some of the Carlo hype to rest, though.

Ancelotti was definitely not at fault for our entire squad losing it after the missed pen. We've been playing very well for 35 of the first 45 minutes.

I feel Real should have done more and put this one to bed. Given Bayern looked mentally and physically drained after the red, it was a very good chance to hit them for more than those two goals. This tie is far from over.

Bayern really, really need Lewandowski back. It's a bit ridiculous to think that a club like them has only one actual striker. Yeah he's world class but NO backup? That's just stupid planning.

But I see them winning next week if he's back for that match.

Well, Madrid are a more technical better version of Bayern Munich. Bayern can't really outmuscle them in any way, and when it comes to technique, the Madrid players are superior in every way.

Gotta hand it to Real though, no other team consistently pounces on opponent's concentration and confidence dips. They never leave mistakes unpunished it feels.

I like that Real has been searching for the killer 3-1 goal, of course without taking any stupid risks. But they've been actively trying to finish the tie. Not many teams would do it when leading 2-1 away at Bayern, even with a man advantage.

Great game. I can't help contrasting the quality of this game with the dross that's served up in our matches. It's a long way back for Manchester United.

The backup striker at Bayern would get disgruntled pretty quickly since Lewandowski is rarely injured.

Ronaldo getting all the praise but Carvajal was great as well

I just knew that Real would turn it around after the penalty miss. Said it earlier.

It's not dead and buried, but it's a tough task ahead for Bayern.

Carvajal is always great tbf. The player, not the RedCafe poster, that guy sucks lolz

Is Lewandowski going to be fit for the second leg by the way? It would help Bas Dost for the golden boot if he missed a few league games :wenger:

Based on the performances today and yesterday, I have to fancy Juventus.. their defence is sensational and they seem clinical going forward.

Dybala.. fecking hell..

I think so, he is being saved for the second leg.

To be fair, Madrid was just superior. Even in the first half I'd say. Bayern had a well taken corner, a big miss from Vidal and a pen. that wasn't a pen. That's very few chances for a world class team playing at home.

The Bayern team was too old?
Alonso 35
Robben 33
Ribery 33
Lahm 33

Think he should have played only two of these guys max.

Asensio is going to be a class player if just Madrid gives him more playing time. That's a big if.

It's not the first time that I am pessimistic and we win with a good performance.
That's my great intuition.
The red card probably costed them the tie.
Bayern can score a couple of goals at Bernabéu but probably Madrid too so I am confident.
I think that Ramos didn't provoke the yellow to miss the match.

I know it can be tough but I'm sure there are some older strikers who are ok with playing not too many games and a few of them out of position. It's not about having someone who can really replace him but about having someone who can play Lewas role. Pizzaro a few years back was perfect. I understand that you won't get someone like him every year but that's kind of the player they should have. (Or just get a top player who can play as a winger and striker)
