Champions League Quarter-finals (second leg)

The people who have a go at people for disliking barca are just as annoying as anybody else to be honest, its almost as if everyone has to wank over them every time they go within 50 miles of a football. Just because they are good doesn't mean people have to enjoy watching them play either.

Dissapointed, the game could have been a classic but i think the ref made too many mistakes, big mistakes. Barcelona certainly deserved to go through, they were the better team but it was such an interesting tie until it was handed to Barca.

100% agree.

There are some who can't see the wood for the trees.

Shame for European football I think we need to rethink referee pay and status so they have the confidence and ability to do games of this stature justice.

What do you know about the pay and status of referees?

It's a difficult job but the two decisions that were really poor for me was the second penalty and the robinho "hand ball".

Yes people will say it's a penalty but it was the usual handbags in the box, the ball was nowhere near the incident and the ref should have simply said they should retake the corner.

The Robinho "handball"... how the ref could see a handball when Robinho was about 2 yars from a ball traveling at such pace i have no idea, also the fact it actually hit under his arm...

Of course there was the Ibrahimovic penalty claim, which was a penalty but you dont always get them. BUt you can look back and say that the Sanchez one was as stone wall a penalty as you can get and it wasnt given.

My dissapointment is that it was made to look very easy for Barcelona when it shouldnt have been so easy if the ref had been a little sharper. I still fully expected Barca to go through but a few nervous moments and a genuine belief that Milan could get through from them would have made for great viewing.

It's not about the ref Barca despite not being at their best were comfortable winners

Sure you would say that if that was Arsenal tonight? Shall we take a look at thread when they have met?

Silly comment when the ref gave a penalty that basically means there will be 5+ pens a game which killed of the match.

He was the biggest homer you are likely to see.

Still prefer Barca to go through love watching Messi and ineista in full flow but how people miss the bias is beyond me.

Teams get it in games not just Barca but over the last five years they have had more than few incidents go their way.

Oh yep, the better team won, but a word about shirt pulling instead of a 2nd peno might have been a bit fairer. That is presuming he just didn't see any previous shirt pull or did have a word. 1-1 at half time would have been a different game.

Best team won, no surprises tonight, butI expected more from both teams.
As for penalties, first one was clear, I am not sure about the second one. But, barca were denied two penalties at San Siro, so it's not big deal.

but but but, two wrongs don't make a right.

I agree though, i just wanted to watch a better game of football. I'm selfish like that and think the way it was played out was great until the decisions killed Milans belief and instilled the confidence of Barca.

Actually i'm starting to be quite happy that Barcelona went through, they'll probably play Chelsea in the next round right?

I'm annoyed that they had to concede at all. Have 3 defensive players in my fantasy team. 1 goal conceded = 12 points lost :(

I know, same here. But that's the way it goes, I am not big fan of that too, but I believe this wouldn't happen if refereeing was good in first game. Refs are shit, and that's a fact.

Chelsea have played as well as anyone against Barca in the last few years but I doubt this team are upto the task.

Real V Barca final will be the biggest CL final of all time.

Saying feck off really upset people that much?

Sorry pettles.......

The thing about those incidents is that they are difficult for the ref to spot, but it doesn't mean it's not a freekick.. A lot of players do it and get away with it because the ref doesn't see it clearly in the middle of the havoc, but if you get caught then the joke is on you.. Shirt pull inside the penalty area, where Busquets was breaking free through a very well setup screen by Puyol (ala basketball) can't be called a "phantom penalty". It's there, and it's one of those 50/50 calls..

You wanted to see a closer game, that's why you wanted the ref to go for the other 50, but to say that it was a huge mistake, and the ref ruined the game because of it? No. Shirt pull inside the area is a penalty according to the law, can't blame the ref. Blame Nesta who did it, or didn't cover it well..

The ONLY significant mistake by the ref that favored Barca was Robinho's handball. He should have let the play go on, but you can't attribute a result of a whole tie to this incident, because there are other decisions that went Milan way too, big ones as well, especially in the first leg..

Also, I assure you, if that was Ferdinand pulled down by Terry, or even Ibrahimovic pulled down by Busquets, I can't help but feel that you'd have gone for the other 50 in your judgement.

Besides, it's becoming a cliche now whenever Barcelona win.. It's always the ref's fault.

Didn't follow this thread from the start.

What are people arguing about? first penalty? 'cause the second for me is definitely spot on.

I agree with most of that of course its because I wanted to see a closer (better) game but also fairer.

That was not the only shirt pull in the box. They are either penalties or not.

Milan should also have had a penalty. It might be a cliche but that does not mean it can never be a good observation.

It's beginning to be a cliche to say people always blame the ref for Barca results to be fair...

  • Ref bottled it tonight
  • Mascherano and Fabregas are twats
  • Cuenca keeps impressing me
  • Best team are through

For those who think the 2nd penalty is spot on I'm wondering why you think that? Does it not matter at all that Busquets did the exact same thing as Nesta and didn't let go until he hit the ground?
For me he most likely saw Nesta holding Busquets shirt but he didn't see Nesta's shirt being held. And that happened before the Puyol foul which was bigger and more obvious than any of the shirt holding so it counts first. It's obviously unfair in that instance to call it a foul because it's such an inconsistent judgement call because it puts one team in an advantage for all the other times you missed it. Barcelona were hard done by in the 1st leg but that doesn't excuse this penalty call or people calling it nailed on for any reason.

And to refrain from upsetting individuals, Barcelona deserved to go through, they were better and now they will beat Chelsea in a similar manor (referee decisions excluded).

DFreshKing, if we allow the shirt pulling by the law in football during corners, then nobody will score from a corner! If you wanna do it, don't let the ref see it, if he does, it's a penalty.

Also, do you think Barcelona won the tie because of the ref?
