Champions League Quarter-finals (second leg)

if i were a Real Madrid fan i'd be ashamed of having such a cnut as a coach

I hope he doesn't succeed fergie, I would stop supporting united. I'm lying, but I know I would be mad at Fergie for letting that happen.

It did make me smile reading the Milan players talk about Barca and referees, after their players falling at the slightest touch and the ref giving them almost everything in the second half against us at the Emirates they aren't ones to talk. Not so nice when it happens to them now is it.

As for Ibra, still bitter about looking rather average at Barca when he was surrounded by world class players, should stick to his stomping ground in serie a.

Barca by far the better side over both legs, Milan's tactics were defend deep and hit and hope, I'm just surprised Barca didn't beat them more comfortably.

It's a fecking joke - they had Ibra dive for a pen, an offside goal and a pen not given for an outrageous foul on RvP. 2-1 at San Siro and they lose the tie even if they spend the second half at Arsenal conning the ref (same guy as at Chelsea today).

I just found it a bit strange considering they got off the hook in Italy.

If officials wanted Barca through why deny them two clear penalties and 2 potential away goals in Italy?

Mourinho, Ibra, and many others in football, have a selective memory.

49% possession for Chelsea in a game against a half decent side who spent over a full half with 10 men is embarrassing to be honest. How can they consider themselves to have any hope against Barca?

We beat them home and away. Not great performances, but it's the end result that matters.

Plus, didn't that half decent side top the group where United finished third?

Well, they won't have more than 35% against Barcelona so it's good that they started practising early.

I know it's the end result that matters, but it says something when Chelsea can't even win the possession battle against a far inferior side to Barca when they have 10 men for a lot of the match.

Yes, that half decent side did top our group. What about it?

With the benefit of playing them with 10 men for more than half a game at home I'm confident we would've topped the group.

Will Bayern make it to play a final on their own turf ?

As for the Chelski-Barca semi, I just don't see a case for Chelski getting through, obviously there is one, but I just can't picture it. I hope they make a game of it, however, they'll have to play much better than last night. Yes, Chelski could have scored quite a few, but Benfica looked dangerous on many occasions and they are not Barca class.

So I'm the only one going for a Bayern v Chelsea final then ?????? Robben to get the winner

Chelsea have no hope against Barcelona, I know we said the same thing about Liverpool in 2005 but they never faced a team as good as this Barcelona on their way through, and when they did face a class team it folded after going 3-0 up, for some strange reason.

Sid Lowe correctly pointed out that El Niño has a history of terrorizing Barça even if he has been disappointing for Chelsea

Current Torres isn't the same Torres that scored against Barcelona on a regular basis. It's also a different Barcelona side.

this was around the time United were missing about 12/14 players - not the whole story, fair enough - there was a distinct lack of committment but it does get overlooked by those looking for a chance to jump in and say "United are actually shit despite winning the title nearly every year and reaching three out of the last four finals. Benfica or Basel would actually be pissing the PL title now.

That's not what he meant at all, he just meant you can't belittlr Benfica like that when they were the ones that eliminated us in the first place.

I wonder if Jose writing Chelsea off is designed to gee them up a bit? Maybe a bit of both getting his dig in as well.

Yep, I've taken the 6.4 on Bayern to win it, can lay off after they dump Real.
Looks a decent call. Madrid have the talent to beat anybody yet the odds seem to exaggerate what they've actually accomplished this season. They have one of the greatest and most expensive teams ever assembled, are in great form and with a fantastic manager, yet Mourinho still feels it necessary to cry his usual embarrassing nonsense about corruption. They're some way from proven greatness and have hardly been tested this season.

It amazes me how they're been put on the same level as Barcelona as well.
This tie against Bayern will show exactly where they are. Apart from Barcelona, this is the only really world class opposition they've faced in 3 years, which is amazing really considering how highly they're rated.

The only other one they've faced is Barca and they get spanked routinely. I can accept that they are the second best side in the world, but how far they are from the rest is yet to be seen.

Bayern v Barca final for me IMO.

but will be a very close game, 1-1 first leg, 1-1 second leg with bayern on pens!

Bayern don't have the defence to stop Madrid I think, I can see Real scoring 3 or 4 goals over two legs without much trouble. Thing is, I can also see Bayern scoring a similar amount so it should be a close one.

They did well against city and napoli, i think there attacking mentality makes there defence look weaker than it really is.

Take into account the huge motivation of a final at the Allianz, i think they will do it.

Yup, Bayern's defence perhaps isn't all that when compared to the rest of their team, but it is worth noting that they don't really give chances away. only Barca give less chances than they do. In the champions league this season, here is the amount of shots conceded per game for the teams left in the competition:

Barcelona: 5 shots conceded/game
Bayern: 9 shots conceded/game
Madrid: 11 shots conceded/game
Chelsea: 15 shots conceded/game

It's even more impressive for Bayern considering they've faced world class attacking teams like Man city and Napoli.

The Bayern/Real game could really disappoint. As so often is the case with two good attacking teams.

I would love a Barca/Real final as I hate Bayern and Chelsea. It's really annoying that a team like Chelsea, who are crap in the Premier League, can get to the semis and we didn't. It's our own fault of course, but it's still annoying and I just hope Chelsea don't do a Liverpool 2005.

I'm excited about Bayern vs Real.

Think Madrid will edge it, but would like to see Bayern do it and make the final on their own patch.
