Champions League - Quarter Finals

Will there be a new draw for the semis? Would love Bayern vs Barca.
Madrid vs bayern would be even more exciting. Best midfield I've seen in Europe this season vs pep's possession kings. Barca's midfield is a bit sterile despite the Psg result.

Well done Bayern though. What a way to answer your critics. Still unbelievably lucky given Neuer's escape in the first leg though.

Brazil, PSG. Any team with Luiz in defense is just begging to be attacked.

What a night.
Everyone did a great job.
But Thiago, man, he can do special bits. Holds the ball absolute brilliantly.
Now on to the semis.

P.S. Thomas Müller has now more CL goals then any other German player.

Barca were right to spend all that money on forwards. Three genuine game winners there. All 3 cant have a bad night.

Qualifying to the semis for the eighth time in the last 10 seasons. Feeling good about this team.

We need to get Atletico in the next round, and then face Bayern in the final. That will be my perfect scenario

I said it back then and I stand by it. Not to rub salt into the wounds of Porto but I thought Neuer played the ball in the penalty incident and that it shouldn't have been a penalty. Yes, if he calls it, it's a red card, but I don't think he should've called it at all. Porto won deservedly regardless, just don't think Neuer got particularly lucky.

Watch all(!!!) replays starting at 20 seconds in the following video. Neuer gets a touch on it with his left foot.

Also lucky not to have had Neuer and Badstubber sent off. Martin Atkinson is a tit.

Not really in relation to Badstuber.
Neuer was lucky in Porto but he earned that with so many great games. The greatest get lucky sometimes.
5 CL semis in a row for him.

Thanks for the video.
To be fair; its very close. Could be a penalty.

But anyway; BAYERN

Very poor game tactically from Blanc, they looked atrocious with that 4-4-2 setup. Not a clue why he thought that would be a good idea considering PSG has done really well against Barcelona the last 6 encounters. Verratti is continuing his great form and it looks like he's stepped up and started to managing his aggressiveness and not let it control him. He's had a great end of this season and I thought he was terrific today considering how shit his team was.

Good to see Neymar be the one getting the credit, he deserves that considering he's been very doubted.

He didn't touch the ball. Watch at around 1:30 and focus on the spin of the ball. The slightest touch would change it. The impression you have is because Jackson hits the ball with the outside of the foot.

Not that this has anything to do with the end result. Difference was wide enough for it to be brushed off. But it was an annoying criteria by the referee at the time. Particularly after what Bayern got against Shakthar.

BBC saying Barca are into a third successive CL semi final? Didn't they go out in the quarters last year?

In all their Barca matches in the CL, Verratti has been the most impressive and most courageous. Players like Cavani, Ibra, Pastore, Van Der Wiel should be ashamed of themselves. A kid is showing them how it's done.

Make that two kids. Moura was brilliant too when he came on and he showed he should have started.

Definitely should have started but they're worried about his fitness issues and the league is still very tight. Cavani is the biggest waste of money they have made.

Yup. They just bought themselves issues as they feel forced to start him in every game that he is fit more or less and he just shouldn't play in matches like this when they need to hunt a goal. Either him or Zlatan should have been left on the bench.

Zlatan is poor at pressing but Cavani's ability is way too poor for matches like this when the opponents presses very well.

Sorry not trying to rub salt into the wounds as I said, Porto won absolutely deservedly, could've been 4-1 in the first game just as well. I just didn't think it was a penalty.
I find it hard to believe even Jackson could push the ball away ortogonally with the speed he was running at. That's why in real time from the tv broadcast angle I thought Neuer got a touch. But you can definitely see it at 1:10 and if you then look at the other replays that touch definitely knocked it away by quite a bit.

What does the bracket look like? Barca vs Bayern in the semis? Or are they going to draw from a pot?

This season must be a wake up call for English teams! The PL is so behind these other leagues, even PSG is levels ahead.

PL will be back in force next season - with us leading the way

Interesting on French TV - what do PSG need to progress - get rid of Cabaye(sell to an English team), Cavani (that's another matter hahahaha) , Lavezzi and van de Wiel, plus get a new goalkeeper and a new attack - they're not rated even in France - Chelsea were just too stupid to get knocked out, same goes for Arsenal against Monaco

The replay at 1:10 is the same I told you to watch at 1:30 in my video, which in slow motion and close-up, you can see that the ball trajectory was defined by Jackson. It's spin doesn't change in the slightest when it passes by Neuer's foot.

And I'm not feeling rubbed, I'm not that sensitive  I've stopped suffering from football a few years ago. Now it only brings me joy or nothing. You dream with the amazing, if it happens great, if not it's back to reality.

I just hope we can make Benfica pay for it in Sunday.

They made a big mistake with buying Luiz for so much money, they could have strengthened their squad with 2-3 good players. Apart from their first 11 when they're fit, the bench is underwhelming.

Luiz was a big mistake and so was Cavani (in hindsight) and as you say strength in depth is just not there. Ibrahimovic won't last much longer. Can't see how they can really finance half a new team and stay within FFP and have some decent back-up players. Unless some idiotic club pays an astronomical fee for Cavani (Woody don't come to France this year !)

And decent back up players with their ambition, it's not compatible.

Another referee would have given a foul from Martinez on Alonso. Then we do not have to discuss the penalty...
It does not make sense talking about referee decision. Do not forget - we do not have a fly catcher but Pepe Reina sitting on the bench...
Martinez could have gotten a red today as he boxed into Lewa's stomach in the second half.

You mean on Alonso, I suppose. That's the kind of decisions that go either way and you have 10 or 20 in each game. Yes, if it had been given we'd not been discussing the penalty. Not giving a red card in that kind of penalty is rare though. That's what irked me. It's a matter of deeper criteria. And that aside, I think referee was good in both games.

And I didn't assume you have fly catcher in the bench, in fact I said it didn't made much difference in the end, as it wouldn't have been with Neuer's sending off that we'd win 3-0 or 4-0 in the first leg or not been destroyed today.

You also have no necessity to speak as if I'm trying to find excuses in refereeing. I was replying to a specific post, with a specific subject, which is if Neuer touched or didn't touch the ball.

I was reminded today Thomas Muller won the Golden Boot at the World Cup when he was 19. That's insane, but is it just me who can never recall him being some 'wonderkid'? This isn't a slight on his ability, far from it, but he's one of those players who just seems to have being around 24/25 for the entirety of his career so far. For someone to win the Golden Boot at that age, you'd never have heard the end of the hype, but I do not seem to recall any with Muller, not in the same vein someone like Neymar has been hyped anyway.

They all look fairly shite tonight to be fair, the only one who doesnt look as if hes given up is Veratti.
not really tonight im going off. Every transfer rumour for god knows how long were interested in cavani. so I watch him in the world cup and does nothing, CL comes round he does nothing. just another south American striker with long hair

I see him the same. He comes across as a composed 30 year old player, even when he was a teenager

FC Porto are "lucky" because if Bayern Munich would have wanted then they would have probably scored 3-4 goals in the 2nd half.
That's not luck, that's football. You have to be pretty bad to go beyond that. No team plays with the same intensity when they're up by 3 goals as when they're down by two.

Porto was a lot tighter in the second half with a packed midfield and a proper RB, and players feeling no pressure at all due to the game being wrecked already. It's pretty natural, it isn't luck. As it stands, 6-1 is our biggest defeat ever in Europe and it was harsh enough. And 7-4 over two hands is not that embarrassing.
