I agree with you that we'd likely lose to both Barcelona and Juventus, they're both great teams (I think we'd have lost to Atletico too). I'd put Liverpool above us too in the CL, so I suppose I have us 4th favourites. I think we play too open in the CL, and the top teams will punish us on the break.
But not sure I agree with your general point about City beating pony teams and anyone that gives us a game gets a result against us. Our record in the top 6 mini-league in the PL this season is P8, W6 D1 L1. Would've been W7 if Mahrez had put his penalty away against Anfield. That's miles ahead of any of the other teams in the mini-league. And we've lost to "pony" teams Leicester, Newcastle, and Palace...
Think you are selling yourself under value. City plays in the most competitive league in the world (at least considering the best 6 teams) and has proven time and time again that they are extremely good at dominating them and converting this dominance into goals. I think there is currently not a single possession oriented team around that is as good as you in creating chances out of static situations. Most of those teams are "forcing" goals or relying on individual quality. You are the only one that seems to have a systemic approach on creating goals on top of an incredible amount of individual quality.
And in contrast to Guardiola's Bayern side, this one is battle hardened from duels against Liverpool, United, Chelsea, Tottenham and Arsenal.
Cup competitions always involve much luck since even one odd game can be enough to go out, even if you'd win 9 out of 10 games against your opponent. I think this is what happened to you last year. However, I don't think you have to hide from any team out there.

It's a fair shout. The Bayern/Liverpool Barcelona/Lyon games hold it back, as both first legs were absolutely terrible, but they've a chance to make up for that tonight.
Great performance from Juve, Ronaldo with another big game hat-trick, both fullbacks were excllent, Can had a very good game, Bernadeschi was good and I thought Dybala was class when he came on as well. Atleti just went to Turin to defend, there was no real counter attack on display to try and grab an away goal that would have sealed the tie, and while I thought Rodri had a composed game both Koke and Saul looked rattled early on to me.
Maybe! I just think the top CL teams will be too clinical, particularly with the away goals rule, but let's see. A lot of it depends on the draw too, obviously.
Aside from inherent quality, I think there are also some other variables in the CL. I do think road-tested experience is vital, and Barcelona, Juve (and Real) have so many players that have been there and done it in the knockouts. Sometimes I think we lack that nous, which is sometimes a bit cynical, but important nonetheless. The other issue is also City fans and our home games. It's no secret that a lot of City fans aren't really enamoured with the competition, and the atmosphere can be flat because of that. I know I've walked into empty seats banter there!

I think Juventus can probably tactically deal with you well and got the quality to hurt you. I have not been that impressed with Barca this season and they could be taken down by a better team. Been too easy for them in la liga this season with Real Madrid being so poor.
Right now I would hold you sa joint favorite with Juventus to win the champions league. If I put my money on a side I would go with Juventus.
I think Lyon might knock out Barca even if they play well. Although Barca can be very strong at home in Europe.

Bernadeschi is turning into a real star for Juve, thought he was great tonight. Having Spinazzola back for them is a big boost too, he provides a very legit replacement for Alex Sandro and adds some more dynanicism to the attack.
Great performance overall, what else can you even say about Ronaldo at this point. Nights like these are the reason they went out and got him. Juve should feel confident against anyone they come up against, they won’t face any other teams that pose stylistic & tactical problems like Athletico did.

Jardel was pretty good. Didn't play much at this level, and I am extremely biased, but I reckon he could give Ronaldo a run for his money on a cross and score game.
Ronaldo dated Jardel's sister back at Sporting so maybe that's how he got his powers

I watched highlights, so didn't watch many replays.
Same here, I think it was not as clear cut, but the keeper is always getting that decision in his favor. He was collecting that ball and Ronaldo put a foot in, easy decision for the ref.
I get that defensive football has gotten Atletico far, but you have to question the approach today. Surely a team like that would back themselves to score 1 without conceding 4.

The only thing that differentiates him from Mourinho's decline is that he is still able to motivate his players and get them to buy into his tactics, and he also has borderline world class players at his disposal for his tactics to work. Give him our team in the premier league and he would have us 6th by December with 1 shot on target against the likes of Huddersfield and Brighton.

Atleti weren't at their hard-working best last night - covered only 109 km. When they managed to stop Madrid, Barca, Bayern in the past, they ran 118-120 km. If you don't work hard enough against the best teams, chances are you'll get punished.
Schalke were pathetic - ran only 99 km. No wonder City destroyed them without much effort on their part either.
With a favourable draw any of the English teams can reach the final. Spurs are in a poor run of form but will look different in 3-4 weeks, imo, and won't be easy to brush aside. Teams that have nothing to lose are very dangerous.

It was given for a shove in the back, no? Why should the referee have taken a look himself? VAR reviewed the decision and found nothing wrong with it, the referee is asked to review it himself if the VAR panel can’t decide themselves (which is completely ridiculous).
You couldn’t see it from the replays. But I guarantee you there was contact. It’s not even easy to purposefully clip your own legs in full sprint with the ball without a visible change in your hip/leg movement. That change wasn’t there. He was running normally. It’s extremely simple though to barely hit someone’s trailing leg as he’s sprinting and thus cause him to trip over his own feet. It’s happened to me in real life games too, both as the defending and attacking player. Takes the faintest of touches and only a split second but it’s a foul every time. I guarantee he didn’t go down because of the push. Correa’s reaction seems like he knows what happened too.

Considering how Atletico surround the ref and contest every decision ever and they didn’t for that penalty indicates to me it was pretty clear out on the pitch. Simeone is a sore loser too so he would’ve definitely mentioned it in his post-match if it was anything other than a clear penalty.
