Champions League Round of 16 (12th Feb - 13th Mar)

I see a lot of United underrating going on here completely dismissed the fact we have been missing our entire first team, good for us I guess

I love comments like this. Have some people ever actually played football?

Your immediate instinct when a ball is fired at you from close range is to turn your back to protect yourself, you do it without thinking. I've watched the clip over and over and Kimpembe simply does what was natural, his arm isn't lifted upwards or in an unnatural position.

There's no way he's got any intent whatsoever to stop that. If under the current rules that is a penalty, then the rule needs a serious rework. You call it 'balls' for the ref to give it, but there's a reason most referees won't entertain giving that kind of decision, because you'd have it happen all the time in stupid circumstances.

It's the kind of penalty call that gets laughed off every week when players make a soft appeal for it.

Don’t care in the slightest we have been on the end of some very harsh decisions in the CL in the past...Nani red, Rafael red..

The rules on handball are shit, and Kimpembe is just doing what is natural in that situation. It's so incredibly soft.

Of course, I don't expect any United to give a feck, you're through and that's all that matters.

I just think it sets a horrible precedent if going forward those kind of situations equal penalties.
 
None of the panel on BT sport (which features 2 ex united players in Hargreaves and Ferdinand) think it is a penalty.
 
Would have been funny if he got 2 yellows. One for taking the shirt off and one for going into the crowd
 
Refs are there to apply the rules of the game not decide which rules are right or wrong. The rules for handball have been made more strict, therefore it's a penalty. Refs making up their own rules leads to the shambles that is Michael Oliver.

It also shows the current rules are absurd and need serious work, because if that kind of incident is genuinely a valid penalty then that is pure insanity, as far as I'm concerned. Especially if that is going to be applied PL wide next season.

Ever heard of Rio Ferdinand? I think he's played football and he said you should never turn your back.
 
Didn't think either of those two were penalties but I trust UEFA referees to know more the subject than I do.

As the rules stand, it's a pen because VAR making every little thing in the box as a PEN in slomo.
Now do I think the implementation is right? Hell no. That isn't a pen in my view of what football should be. But as far as the rules/VAR goes, that's a pen.

This time its benefitted us, but it will no doubt go against us at some point too

Rio Ferdinand just said he doesn't think it's a penalty at all.

You should never turn your back in general if you can help it, but in some circumstances it will happen, and shouldn't be as harshly punished as it has been because there's zero intent there and his arms are not outstretched enough.

It's an incredibly, incredibly harsh penalty to give.
 
How is that not a pen for Roma?

He clearly trips him on the legs from behind?
