Champions League Round of 16 (12th Feb - 13th Mar)

And we’ve seen exactly what will happen here if you let a team with the quality of Juve just attack you non stop for 90 minutes. If you don’t try to play some football yourself they will breach your defense eventually.

They're struggling to counter for sure, which is weird because Juve are definitely leaving themselves open defensively.

Anybody else noticed Juanfran and his throws. Looks like a foul throw every time I’ve seen him take one.

I don't remember the tie from last season, but in this tie I see nothing wrong with Atletico's approach so far. They are leaning on their strength and paying Juve proper respect. They need to do better with the ball though.

Well that's what I mean, no matter how good you're set up defensively, against a team like Juve, at home, refusing to play with the ball and changing your fangs for another layer of armor is asking for trouble.

Turn the Juve match on, the ref has lost his whistle
It’s on the little postage stamp sized tv across the pub. The remaining (and I kid you not) 20 TV’s have the City game. Commentary coming from City game too.

I glance over occasionally (saw Berbadeschi go for an overhead) but can’t get into as much with no sound and minuscule players.

They're not breaking fast enough. They move slowly up to keep their defensive structure and it's getting them nowhere. Juve aren't being moved around enough and they're basically waiting for the attack to peter out.

Ronaldo has set his castle right next to Juanfran, he smells blood there and he's trying to flay him,

Yeah that’s what I mean. They aren’t even attempting to hit them on the break. If they were, then I would say their set up was correct, but they’re strictly trying to contain Juve, not get something here.

As I type this Ronaldo comes metres away from scoring another header. See what I mean? This approach is just asking to get knocked out. You can’t just rely on keeping this Juventus team out.

Oh my days what a good chance that was

Agreed completely, awful tactics from Atletico. They haven't even had a shot ffs.

One goal from them and this tie is over.

It couldn't be enjoyable for the likes of Morata and Greizmann to play this way?.....Literally there to be workhorses and nothing more to the team

And just as soon as I say that Morata should score....

Imagine if Juve win the ball back during an Atletico counter and run at a disorganized defensive structure.

I still can't fault Atletico's approach at the moment.

The weird thing is that they don't have to play this way, they have a really good side with some great players. It's not like they are Stoke. They could definitely score more goals if they just took some more risks.

Whats the deal with the draw for the next round? Can we draw English teams or Juventus, or are certain opponents still blocked?
