CHARITY SHIELD: Chelsea vs. Manchester United; Sun 8 August 2010

Play Berbatov he is less likely than anyone to get injured on the wembley pitch as that would require running!

Resting players already? Berba will have the week off now he has retired from Internationals (if my memory serves me right).

Fergie says it's the last friendly before the season so will be playing those who need minutes.

The only players you could perhaps rest are Park (called up against Nigeria), Hernandez (called up against Spain) and Rafael (called up against the United States), who have long haul flights. To be honest neither Rafael nor Hernandez needs the minutes anyway.

Thankfully Valencia has not been called up.

Carlo Ancelotti confirms Chelsea team, Didier Drogba benched - England - ESPN Soccernet

Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed his starting XI for Sunday's Community Shield against Manchester United and said it would contain only one change from the side that lost their final pre-season friendly at Hamburg.

Hilario will start in goal, with the same outfield players from Wednesday night's game taking to the field at Wembley.

Blues boss Ancelotti revealed Didier Drogba would be on the bench, while No.1 Petr Cech, defender Alex (both calf) and full-back Jose Boswinga (knee) are all out.

Starting XI: Henrique Hilario, Paulo Ferreira, Branislav Ivanovic, John Terry, Ashley Cole, Michael Essien, John Mikel Obi, Frank Lampard, Salomon Kalou, Nicolas Anelka, Florent Malouda.

Subs: Ross Turnbull, Didier Drogba, Ricardo Carvalho, Yossi Benayoun, Yuri Zhirkov, Gael Kakuta, Daniel Sturridge, Jeffrey Bruma.

Thats a bit strange, telling the press your starting line up 2 days in advance...

Well you do have to consider that the game means feck all in the big scheme of things, hell even in the small scheme of things it means feck all

Interesting team,

------------Hilario-----------
Ferreria-Ivanovic-Terry-A.Cole
---------Mikel-Essien--------
-Kalou---Lampard---Malouda-
----------Anelka------------

Based on our current injury/resting situations this is my prediction of the team that starts at Wembley.

.........................VDS..........................

Brown.........Evans.....Vidic...........O'shea

Valencia......Fletcher...Scholes.........Nani

.....................Berbatov.......................

....................Hernandez.....................

How many England players could be playing Sunday and Wednesday on that joke Wembley pitch? Rooney, Terry, Cole, Lampard.

I say we don't play Rooney at all - start with Berbatov and Hernandez. The turf has already claimed Owen last time and we really don't need anymore injuries.

Completely possible that Rooney and Owen don't play even thought SAF said they will get 45 minutes.

But, think about it - neither Rooney or Owen play and Berba/Chicha play and one of them gets hurt. Now for opening game you have a neither Owen or Rooney that have played more than 45 min of a match.

Just hope the farce that is Wembley doesn't claim any victims from our squad. Won't mind if it takes out Lamps and Terry.

Who's captain?

Personally I'd pick Vidic but I'd think others would opt for Fletcher here.

Brown ever captain us? O'Shea was it for Ireland (though he did for opening game last season as well).

I think it would be Fletch. He captained first pre-season even though Giggs and Scholes played - unless that was because it was against Celtic.

VDS or Vida otherwise.

Hilario
Ferreira Ivanovic Terry Cole
Essien Mikel Lampard
Kalou Anelka Malouda

Hopefully we can exploit Ferreira down our left.

Brown has captained some FA Cup and League Cup games.

That Chelsea defence looks a bit shit. Why isn't Carvalho starting? Bosingwa injured again?

So Brown isn't injured - that's good. Thought that is why he was out of the Ireland game.

Great to see the smiling face of Paddy with the lads.

With the twins being doubtful - think the starting line up will be

VDS
Brown, Evans, Vidic, O'Shea
Nani, Fletcher, Scholes, Giggs
Rooney, Berbatov.

With Owen to come on for Rooney after half time.

Bench: Valencia, Cleverly, Gibson, Smalling, TK, Owen, Macheda

More history for the Renties though. You'll bet they'll be trying to win it

If Park is to play in the middle he would need 2 other centre midfielder in there with him. To just play Park and Fletch in against Essien, Lampard and Mikel would be suicide.

Well You forgot Valencia and Nani who are doing a fantastic Job going back to get the ball. And also dont Forget Rooney who I believe will be able to track back more often now cos Chicharito is a great at passing the Offside trap and is quick enough to catch whatever Fletch, Park and Rooney will serve ;) You are still thinking that we will play 4-5-1 (4-3-3) formation... But we well have no 2 upfront so that will ease our midfield in a way dont you think so?

So basicly you are throwing out our most inform pre-season and WC player Park for no reason???

Chicharito?? I think it's the perfect match to test him against a top class PL defence, especially with this match being not that important in the grand scheme of things. Sure we'd like to win it, and it is silverware at the end of the day but we won't be exactly crying if we lose. IMO, it's the perfect chance to see how Chicharito fares against an English defence.

So playing against Casilias, Ramos, Puyol, Piqué, and Capdevilla midweek is not challenging enough for him ... oh wait.

Any of our American friends tell me if the game will be shown stateside? I'm going to be in Tampa on Sunday.
Not seen anything advertising the game over here on the billion sports channels!

It's basically their first choice team.

Cech is injured. They don't have a nailed on right back. Drogba is not fully fit.
