Chelsea 2016/17 - Very Content

3 at the back (Cahill, Luiz and Azpilicueta) today. Interesting that he preferred Azpilicueta over Ivanovic as one of the centre backs.

I suggested Conte would put three at the back against us (Cahill, Luiz, Ivanovic) to stop our play like he did for Spain v Italy. He never and got burnt, maybe trying to prove that he can play different formations. Looks like his familiar three at the back might be back on the menu as Conte tries to save his job.

Save his job?

Didn't realise it was in danger. He is 3 points off second place.

Maybe harsh words, but he has to show he's doing enough to be on the right tracks in the watchful eyes of a trigger happy owner. Being 3 points off second place is a good start. And going with three at the back will increase the odds of that points gap not widening too much.

Thought they would be one of the hardest teams to beat in the league at the start of the season, given their history with negative play and the signing of Kante etc. They have been hugely underwhelming though. Starting to look like Jose wasn't the issue there after all. They were dismantled by Arsenal, not too often you can say that about Arsenal against any of the top teams.

Hope he keeps 3 at the back, as it's what he knows best. Not surprised he went with Azpilicueta at LCB, as he is nowhere near good enough going forward for a Conte Wingback, but a very good defender. But thought he would have gone Ivanovic over Cahill.

That was coming. Adidas deemed you not worth enough to keep you in their business.
No, the club have ditched Adidas considering Chelsea paid to terminate it.

That Nike deal must be partly behind the stories of Abramovich going back to his old ways with signings

Definitely was down to Jose IMO. Soon as he left look at the little sly digs players had about him not bothering with some of them, ignoring them when they said hello and stuff. It'll happen here too, ive no doubt.

Kante has been very good for my money and once Conte sorts the defence out, they'll be a force. Luiz has been pretty good since re-singing too, i have to admit. Cahill seems the issue.

75m-10 years, 60m-15 years.

Still think these aren't great deals. 2026 will tell, I suppose.

The guy who broke the Chelsea and Nike story back in May, from the Telegraph, reckons Abramovich is going to back Conte from January with a massive amount of funds and £50m has been set aside for Bonucci, either then or summer. And that Nike paying them £900m for the deal is part reasoning

Also, why wasn't this story I'm another thread. These megathreads are fecking stupid.

Chelsea have just said that Conte isn't leaving the club. There must have been something going on for them to comment on the matter. Judging by how upset Conte apparently got at Juve not getting Cuadrado coupled with Abramovic not signing his targets - I think there's some truth in unrest reports.

Really good performance, but most excited about all three of our subs being youth players. After all the false starts over recent years, that feels like a statement.

Especially happy for Nate. Really thought he'd missed his window of opportunity after a few years of poor loans. Wonderful to see all that potential finally coming to fruition. That assist was just beautiful.

Beating the small teams convincingly, losing to the big boys. Top 4 finish should be within their reach. Costa and Kanté doing the business for Chelsea, the latter could be the buy of the season.

Just our luck they stumble on the system that seems to work just before they play us!

They looked good today. They have the players, why not? Lets see come January how the table has shaped up.

Its unbelievable thr talent of managers in the Prem right now. Only one can win it and theres at least 6 top class managers who are capable of doing it.

Could be but he's been pretty underwhelming so far.
He's not only a good destructor, his passes were on point today. Didn't know he had it in him. Don't know what else you'd expect from Kanté. On the other hand, Matic had a lot of underwhelming games, but today he also looked good to me.

You could see it coming from a mile off. Those players will play out of their skin just to feck Mourinho.

I think that's generous but each to his own. He will be a great signing no doubt about that.

Sorry I was probably a bit snappy there. Basically he's had a couple of dodgy games, and has clearly been needing to settle into a new team and style. Also worth mentioning that the whole team is just in the middle of switching to a new formation too. Despite that though, he's already had a huge effect on us, giving the defence breathing space, breaking up attacks, and giving us a great additional element going forward.

I just get a bit pissy, because it seems to have become one of those 'known facts' that he's not been playing well, despite him having a number of really excellent performances already, and making a big difference even when he's not on top form.

No worries, I've probably only seen the games he's been a bit off it. I missed today's game but assume he was decent today?

Loftus-Cheek seems totally wank. Good that Conte seems to put more faith in Chalobah than him.

On the balance of things Chelsea is the only team with an obvious weakness which can be fixed in January. If we end this year within a few points of top-4, we will comfortably make it by May.

If we could get a top 4 finish, I'd be happy with that.
If Spurs miss-out then you guys should be next in line - City, Liverpool and of course Arsenal will have the first three spots, so the rest of us need Spurs to suffer from their Champions League campaign to open-up a spot IMO.

8 games in you cant say that for sure. Wait till arsenal do their usual January slump. Also liverpool, with klopp's style of play will either run out of steam at some point or will have injuries. While Jose will have figured out the best 11 at United and Chelsea would have strengthend their defense further.

Its all up in the air apart from city being nailed on for top4.
