Chelsea 2017/18 thread - FA Cup Champs, League chumps

Conte confirmed Morata will play tomorrow but most likely wont start, think we should experiment with 3-5-2 tomorrow seeing as we are short on wide options and have enough centre mids. Does anyone know if Rudiger is with the squad and if he will play?

This escalated quickly

The paper of the Communist Party of China, The People’s Daily wrote: 'Best to keep your mouth shut, you troublemakers. If you do not learn to respect others, you will never earn the respect yourself. Kenedy is still defending himself in his apology, and Chelsea’s statement is perfunctory to say the least. The hospitable Chinese people don’t welcome such guests. As such Chelsea will be treated as a 'persona non grata' in the future.'

Communism is always knee-jerk. Its' black or white for them, no grey areas.

Chelsea couldn't do more than issue that apology and discipline the immature cnut, who was actually more juvenile than racist in his actions.

But the party mouthpiece is well known for spewing harsh diatribes and threats. While it is sanctioned by the government, they rarely follow up on what's written, and their actual stance is softer.

Still holding out hope we at some point employ a 3-5-2. At least in some matches.
You might get your wish with Pedro and Hazard both out for now. Even if it is a 3-4-2-1, Fabregas will come deep with the inside forward on the other side playing as a support striker.

Question is, who will be the support striker? Willian or Batshuayi? The latter seems the more obvious choice but Willian never seems to play bad. Plus he probably won't be happy being this down in the pecking order.

I think with the hazard and pedro injuries, the 2 would be willing supporting either Morata or Batshuayi. I think both strikers will play together at some point but Willian up top with batshauyi would be lethal for pace and fabregas as a no 10 feeding them.

I actual like the options available to us and the balance of the squad a lot more this year, just need 3 more signings.

Ironically @Don _ Conte , it's Fabregas' place which looks the most assured (assuming he'll play in the front three, not deeper). Things will get more interesting when Hazard returns.

I know and I think fabregas being a regular alone will improve us tenfolds! Theres the option in the 3 4 3 for the creativity to be on the front 3 and kante and baka in the middle. But also the option in the 3-5-2 for fabregas to have a free role supplying 2 of Hazard/Pedro/Batman/Willian/ Morata.

Are you seriously arguing what Mikel did was racist!?

Depends on if he mistakenly heard Clattenburg or if the alleged racial abuse was completely fabricated.

Falsely accusing someone of a different colour of racially abusing you is racist in itself imo.

Are you seriously arguing what Mikel did was racist!?

Or that what happened at the airport was racist!?

It appears to me you're consulting your own biases.
Defend it however you like but Chelsea has a history of racism via players and fans.

@2:12 Is Alvaro a caf classics lurker?

How Lampard being drunk in a bar on 9/11 has turned into him being racist at an airport on 9/11 is ridiculous.

Come on now, its like that time when Ken Bates wanted to install electrified fences at the bridge, clear racism. Or the time when Jose called Dr Eva a 'daughter of a whore', horrible display of racism. Or indeed the time when Rio Ferdinand called Ashley Cole a 'choc ice', clearly Ash was being a terrible racist, because if you play for or support Chelsea you automatically must just hate black people.

So sick of this fecking bullshit. The entire game was racist as feck until fairly recently, and some clubs had to fight harder than others to purge that sickness from the fanbase, due to many factors far outside their control. Every damn team in the PL has fought tooth and nail against it, handing out lifetime bans, and sending a clear and consistent message that its not acceptable in any way. Yet apparently for some people this is all irrelevant because its easier to throw around nasty little smears.

As football fans we rip other teams supporters for all sorts of things, usually pretty stupid and often dumb regional stereotypes, but when it ventures into accusations of inherent racism then it stops being banter and just becomes cnutishness.

Kenedy did feck all. Stupid? yes, racist? no. Mountain out of a mole hill.

Kenedy wasn't racist at all neither was Lampard. Christ, there's already enough of racism you can associate with Chelsea without making stuff up.

Morata got an assist on his debut for Chelsea. We really should have paid up the 90m euros for him. Who's gonna bite?

He looked really bright in the time he did play, my god we need wing backs though

Also its been said in this thread already but Chelsea's new kit is really top class didn't notice it till I watched the Bayern game

I think you're going to struggle in the CL

I know im sure you do i see you commenting negative stuff regarding chelsea in 95% of your posts in here, your probably the same type that said we wouldnt be able to see out the league last year or that our luck will stop.

We will see wont we, i dont think any of the english teams have much of a chance bar city but then again not sure anyone wouldve given monaco a chance last year.

Firmly believe Chelsea are England's greatest hope in the UCL as things stand, Rudiger was an absolutely fantastic signing, Bakayoko has the legs to play a lot of games and has experience of last season. Morata, whilst right now a downgrade, atleast you won't have to deal with the childish behaviour of Costa and I'm sure Morata will be a great signing.

As a club I don't like Chelsea very much at all, the squad that Chelsea have however, I feel has been underrated just because they haven't had to do anything in Europe last season. Personally I'm very scared of Chelsea next season and think they'll retain the league with United/City for second.

What is scary for Chelsea though, assuming they lose Costa, is their depth up front, Solanke sold, Conte didn't use Batishuayi (guessed spelling) much last season, Morata in the main man role for the first time, I feel Chelsea need another good signing up front. I'm sure the summer definitely isn't over for Chelsea however. Which scares me.

I agree that we are massively under rated but i think people just enjoy downplaying our squad/conte and what we acheived last year.

If im honest striker is the last place i really feel we should strengthen i think morata and batshuayi have enough goals between them without bring hazard willian pedro into it i think its other areas we can strengthen in.

Extremely happy with our signings so far i think for the best balance the players to come in should be.

LWB- Sandro obviously first choice if not then bertrand is a good option.

CM - i think barkley offers us something different in the middle and is homegrown if not sergio roberto is a good option with good passing ability.

AM - I think celtics dembele at 20/30m would be great value an not a huge risk seeing as he would be an added option to an already good set.

Rwb - Not sure who maybe cedric soares or aurier.

We are in pot 1 so will be fine in the group stage. After that even united will struggle to get to QF (if you dont spend another £100m by the end of the window).

"Even" united? United havnt really got any stronger from last year due to replacing Ibra with Lukaku and Lindelof looking terrible in pre season (not that im writing him off) and the options they have left are Matic and Peresic both seriously seriously underwhelming so im not buying into them at all this year. When they park the bus in the champions league teams with that quality will just tear though them.

City will be able to give it a go as will we i hope. Not sure about spurs and pool.

United will do a lot better than Chelsea in the league so its only fair to use a non-comparative. Lindelof is a better CB than any that we have. Also Lukaku is quite an upgrade over Ibra.

I dont think they will at all there team hasnt improved much imo from the 22 point gap they needed to make up last year but ours and citys squads have, dont think they will finish top 2. Lindelof better than any of our centre backs is the most bizarre thing iv ever heard from a chelsea fan (assuming you are one) guess we will have to agree to hugely disagree on this.

You do realise that if we had another 15 games to play that 22 point gap would probably have reduced to 2 points.

You do realise that was hugely down to the fact we played with 10 men due to costa not wanting to be there and when batshuayi did play we looked better for it. Plus pretty sure united remaining fixtures didnt see them pick up many points so not sure that opinion holds much weight really.

People are just pre empting because last time we won the league we had a poor season after. Yet this year weve already signed strong players not to mention we didnt finish off the season badly at all compared to 14/15. Christensen boga musonda in the team too give us good options.

And this is where we differ. You are probably the most blinkered and biased Chelsea fan here. If you had your way you'd have replaced the whole first XI that just won you the league (bar Hazard) and are the epitome of a 'transfer muppet'.

United were very good in Europe last season and I fully expect with Mourinho at the held a solid campaign. Chelsea have alot to live up to this season given the easy schedule last term. The league win was a great achievement no doubt but juggling European competition for the squad you have will be difficult.

Morata is a downgrade on Costa and when it comes to the very best I don't hold out much hope for the likes of Gary Cahill and Victor Moses. I think Rudiger is a solid signing but you are far from doing anything significant in Europe IMO and have lost your biggest goal threat. You also have Hazard on the treatment table.

Although it was pre season I thought Bayern obliterated you (until they brought on there reserved and even then they seemed to cut through at will)

I think Conte will have a tough season.

Alright chief. The manager who is paid £10m a year couldnt see for 6 months it but internet know it all saw it right away. Keep going.

United weren't really in Europe last season though, were they? The Europa League win is hardly any indication of how good/bad this side will look against European elite.

Youre viewing the game with tinted specs mate. Chelsea had like 15 less games then United. Say what you want, you will not be that ahead. Youll be fighting for Top 4 along with the reason of United, Spurs, Arsenal, Man city and Liverpool

Nonsense. I watch every Benfica match and whilst he's a good prospect with all the physical tools to be a good player at some point he's nowhere near the finished article. He's not better than Luiz, Azpilicueta, Rudiger, or Christensen right now. He's probably about as good as Cahill and that's being generous.
