Chelsea 2017/18 thread - FA Cup Champs, League chumps

"Maybe Alonso"? He's been great.

Pedro, Kante, Luiz, Alonso have been at least "good"signings. Too soon to say about the final 7. Lots of shit there to be sure.

How long ago was Moses signed, surely Conte deserves credit for his development, looks like a totally new player. Not overly spectacular but definitely good.

Several years and Moses was a wide attacking midfielder. Conte has a talent in maximizing a player's strengths with his coaching coupled with tactics. And yet some so-called Chelsea fans would rather side with the Board and want to get rid of Conte. Let's see how they will take to Ancelotti when he rejoins the club.

Yeah he's defiantly better as a wing back than before, he is one of those players that seemed to just disappear.

Shit myself when I saw this thread was the 1st on the front page.

I'm assuming your referring to the rumours of Chelsea trying to sign Sanchez.

Nothing to worry about. Sanchez agent figured he would throw in Chelsea name to make sure United don't get too comfortable with negotiations. At least that's my take.

On the verge of signing Carroll.
I don't know how Courtois and Hazard will take it.

Don't understand this signing at all. Why would you sign such an injury prone player as a backup striker?

I really don't see what Carrol has done in the last few years for a top club to even consider him an option.

At least when he went to Liverpool he actually had some form to back it up.

Chelsea going for Carrol kills an unlikely Chelsea hijack of Sanchez. They are not after Sanchez' player profile.

Not only is he just not very good anyway, he is always injured.

It's a baffling move by Chelsea.

Had a peak on Shed End, this Andy Carroll thing is not going down very well:D Some funny posts on there.

Can't believe it myself, surely Chelsea can get someone else?

We undoubtedly need a striker. Michy is not up for the job. It's too soon for Abraham. Who would you suggest that can play as a target man?

What's Giroud up to these days?

Well @Jazz, this forum would implode if we signed Carroll. Can sort of symphatize with that view.

Is this Chelsea trying to make sure they fill the homegrown quota or a change in the transfer policy?

We need a big target man. Home grown helps and I'm sure the club does not want to break the bank for a back up.

His injury record is as much of a concern to me as his skill level.

You broke your transfer record for Morata, he really should be able to be a target man. I can understand why Conte is pissed of at the board!

Not sure if Giroud is available for Chelsea but he would make lot of sense for Chelsea. His link up play and flicks are very good, also good aerially.

Giroud might be better, in that he doesn't have as many injuries as Carroll.

I mean, apparently West Ham don't want to do a loan, they want £30 or £35M for him, which seems pretty excessive considering his injury record. If it was a loan then no problem, but the current deal doesn't make too much sense in my opinion. Would rather save that sum and top it up in the summer and get a quality player in. In the meantime, can you not recall anyone from loan or something?

Morata is and will continue to be our main striker. We are not singing his replacement, were signing backup.

I know that. But, Morata has the height and frame to be a target man; he's pretty good with his head.

I think with a bit of patience Morata can be a decent target man; certainly better than Andy Carrol who is on the decline.

Who? Abraham is nowhere near ready, he needs to play in a side with less pressure. Izzy Brown is out injured ling term. We don't have a load of centre forwards put on loan.

Okay, didn't realise it was that dire..

I'd argue that Morata already is an excellent target man. Carroll (on his best days) can be a battering ram like Drogba was. Morata does not have that in him.

As much as I dig on Jose he did get hosed by the Chelsea board and the Chelsea board is hosing Conte as well.

Andy freakin’ Carroll? What, was Peter Crouch not available?

What’s next Nile Ranger, Joey Barton, and Bebe?

Oh I guess Chelsea could try and reanimate Christian Vieri.

The club is shambolic.

Signing Andy Carroll especially on a permanent basis goes to show that Roman doesn’t give a damn about the club anymore instead of investing in proper team building and it is a nice slap in the face of those deluded fans who claim that Chelsea is only interested in buying younger players with resale value. It’s beyond just penny pinching now - it’s idiotic spending on rubbish players.

If it's a truthful report, then thing doesn't sound good for Chelsea and Conte then.

This is Conte's style. Diego Costa said that Conte did not get close to his players.

Maybe he is like Guardiola in that he is very cold and calculated. Where as managers like Mourinho and Ancelotti build strong relationships with their players.

Andy Carroll? I understand a plan B and they did try for llorente but surely at 29 and with his injury record, it’s a pointless signing?

And this is why Jose was very much hurt after the chelsea debacle. The players did stop performing for their manager and that must have hurt Jose. I think Conte is also facing such dilemma to an extent. I won't blame Conte if things start to go wrong , these players can fool people once but twice! na
