Chelsea 2017/18 thread - FA Cup Champs, League chumps

Good lad.

In all fairness I do kind of see where Robbie Boy is coming from, Costa on form is unreal and a beast. But he struggles to every replicate that form over a whole season and its mostly due to his attitude, something which has held him back from being a much better player than he has been.

Feel our team will be stronger without him as long as the replacement is someone of Belotti, Auba quality etc

The difference between the Chelsea Costa and Atletico Costa is kinda similar to Cavani. Cavani at Napoli was a better striker than the Cavani at PSG. Diego Costa at Atletico was a better striker than the Diego Costa at Chelsea IMO.

If they replace Costa with Kun, they will be my strong favourites for the title. I still hope Pep is not that clueless to sell them the best striker of the league.

the on forum chelsea Costa IMO is 2nd best striker in prem, behind Aguero. And one of the worlds best

not happening in a billion yrs. Aguero or Aubameyang makes them faves for me. They won it comfortably last year with a half arsed Costa from Jan - stick a Auba in there with his pace and thats scary. They aren't weaker at the moment, i think all they needed was a top striker and LWB. So who knows.

Yeah, but which forum? Costa on bluemoon would just be too unstable and bitter for instance.

So just an off the cuff question for you Chelsea guys. If you were to take Aguero from us at City. How much would you think you'd be willing to pay?

At 29, I would expect £50m to be the asking price. Given his scoring record I could not see it being lower.

This would not surprise me at this point. :(
We probably will sign Llorente as a backup. The annoying thing is that we may go through the whole of our preseason without a main striker signing. We'll probably start the season dropping points while a new striker catches up to the rest of the squad.

Why do I have this feeling that Chelsea will crash and burn next season? One can only hope.

They certainly won't have it all their own way like they did last season. They haven't had a great summer so far but I expect them to add a bit more quality.

It's interesting to see if they can retain the title, seeing as no team has done it after SAF left, and not only that but they have been an absolute disaster the following season. Anyway I expect Chelsea to learn from their experience of the worst title defense, and freezing Costa out is a good start.

He's obviously a brilliant player but I believe he's signed through 2020, right? Transfermarkt has him listed as being signed through 2019 but I think he signed an extension last year. I reckon we'd have to stump up at minimum £75m, and I'd be awfully reluctant to truth be told given his age and injury history.

I'd much rather go after Icardi or Belotti for the same/similar price, or if we're determined to be miserly just hijack Inter's deal for Keita Balde Diao.

If City (and Aguero) have any sense, they'll push this well into August before telling Chelsea nope.

Dont you be back tracking now Sir. You are getting tagged in all my rants later in the season anyway.

Given his injury record and age. I would say his real value would be about £40m. I would go up to a maximum of £45m if I was in charge but not much higher.
If he is going to cost much more than that then might as well pay £60-65m for Sanchez who is nearly as good and will have an extra couple of years on Aguero (given he was a bit of a late bloomer).

In reality though, I think Chelsea will end up with either Aubamayang (in the region of £60m) or Benteke+Llorente for about the same combined.

Don't see any reason why City would sell Aguero to Chelsea for around £50m.
Isn't he (Kun) their only "proper" forward as well?

Lukaku would have been an upgrade on Costa. Chelsea missed out big time.
What the feck are you smoking? Costa contributes far more to any team than Lukaku does at this. A very very good player at his peak vs a potentially great player 3-4 years from his peak.

You gotta be taking the piss mate, £40m for one of the top 5 strikers in the world?! Swansea turned down £40m for Gylfi Sigurdsson just to put this in perspective.
There is no more "real value" in the transfer market now especially in our league. I'd be surprised if City sells him for anywhere lower than £70m, they don't need the money and they most certainly wouldn't want to strengthen a rival.

No. They also have Jesus and Ihenacho.

The problem for them is that Aguero would not want to stay if he is not first choice. It will be very very difficult to convince him to stay if Jesus is starting over him regularly.

There is. Especially when an English club is selling a player to a continental club. The players almost always go for a fair value. I dont see how city will get anything more than £40m for Aguero from a european club.

I highly doubt Chelsea are genuinely interested in Aguero and dont see anyone else in the PL buying him either. My answer was for a hypothetical question asked by the City poster.

He's better than Sanchez, and they were born in the same year! He was class at Barca so I'm not sure why you would say he's a late bloomer (or how this correlates with longevity). He certainly found more freedom at Arsenal which helped him somewhat. But I guess this is hypothetical so it doesn't matter.

He is only marginally better than Sanchez but only able to play half the games each season.

Aguero has been playing regular football since the age of 16 while Sanchez only became a regular at the age of 19. Quite possible that Sanchez plays at the same level for another 3-4 years while Aguero might not be able to to it for that long.

@AshfordLad

I'm surprised to see such low valuations for probably the most consistent striker in the premier league the last 6 years or so especially in the current market.
Sanchez has a year left on his contract, Kun four. Thats the only reason I think Sanchez will move for £60m otherwise he'd be Bale/Pogba money imho. He also played alot of games last season with very little injury, onlly a couple of weeks, though he was suspended for 7 games.
Even with his injuries I think you'd have to stump up at least Lukaku money for Sergio possibly more but can easily understand why clubs would hesitate to pay that kind of money.

It's a very good point but one thing I'd worry about is their relative fit as a centre forward at the highest level-for me Aguero is among the world's best at the position whereas I wouldn't put Sanchez up there yet on the evidence of a solitary season. I'd personally be reluctant to spend what it'd take to buy either; yes it'd be nice in the short term but I almost view a player like Belotti as a safer bet long term given their respective ages and room for growth, but perhaps that's just me.

Firstly, you did not ask what Chelsea would "have to" pay but what the fans on here would be "willing to" pay so its obvious that you would get different answers. Even though I did give a value, I would further add that in an ideal scenario I would not want a player as injury prone as Aguero on the team anyway.

And Lukaku money. You mean £90m? Maybe if Aguero was 25 today yes. I dont think you appreciate the importance valuation of Lukaku's potential or the problem Aguero's injury record.

Either way, I dont think City will sell to Chelsea if they sell at all. He will go to the Continent and the fees would be much closer to what I mention.

On another note. Who do you think would city keep - Aguero or Iheanacho? Both of them would want some sort of assurance for regular game time but only one can realistically get it.

That is correct. Sanchez could be like a stopgap for the no9 for one season though. Who knows what happens next summer if Tammy scores 20 this season or we get a better price on say Morata. My concern with Belotti is that he could end up being another Immobile. If that amount of money is being spent, the striker should have more than one good season to back him up.

Wow. Embarrassing for Chelsea and Conte. They need to move him on and fast.
How is it embarrassing for Conte when he has already told Costa to get fecked.

As the club haven't moved him on.

Incredible lack of support for him.
