Chelsea 2017/18 thread - FA Cup Champs, League chumps

But none of it changes the fact that at this moment in time he's a better footballer than Likaku.

In your opinion of course. Different strokes and all that; I would rather Lukaku but that's just me, I guess. At the end of the day, Costa does have all that baggage and that has to be factored in whether you agree or not.

Hilarious, that's the way I described you earlier. I won't bother with you anymore, anyway. You read what you want and seem overly defensive of Costa; a player that's fecked your club over, mind.

You keep refusing to actually engage with any of the points people lay out for you about why he's both a good player and not the disciplinary liability you're trying to paint him as. You just keep repeating the line that everyone is overly defensive, despite none of us actually being particularly defensive. Perhaps the emotion is on your side not ours?

Take a look back through the thread. I have made clear points. Your issue is that I rate Lukaku higher. I mean, all because someone has a contrary opinion to your own, you have taken exceptional umbrage. I have posted stats etc and clearly and concisely stated my points. I think you're in a muddle and on a repeated loop, to be quite honest. I have found you an overly emotional character, during all of this, not that it matters, as we all different and all that. This all started because you disagreed on a post of mine.

Anyhow, good luck in your quest for a new striker who'll no doubt be an upgrade on Costa (due to all the variables I have mentioned - not questioning his ability as you seem hell bent on). I have no further desire to engage with you. Basically I'm not arsed as you have a serious agenda.

I agree Costa is bit better but he is also liability. If Referees had some balls he would have been sent off few times in the first half of the season.

I think he'd cut it out if he was sent off for it a couple of times. The fact that he gets away with it leads him on. Always had him down as a prick who knows what he's doing.

Nope, I haven't mentioned Lukaku once. I just called you on a few inaccurate points which you've since ignored. If you're mixing up different posters and not quite sure who you're replying to, perhaps you might be the one in a muddle?

I don't think I've ever posted anything particularly serious here outside of the Current Events forum. Enjoy your day though, I certainly am. :)

I don't really get the debate - everyone's kind of agreeing on the main points? Just comes down to personal preference on who you prefer in a big game scenario.

Costa = better overall striker BUT nutter/no loyalty/cnut
Lukaku = good striker, no baggage

Nah mate, still you in the muddle. The original posts of mine were preferring Lukaku over Costa and you joined in around that point. You then proceeded to mix things up quite a-bit but no harm done.

Indeed. Been mostly filled with meetings but back at the desk now, though I wish I was out enjoying that cracking Dublin weather. Oh, my bad, I definitely have you down as a serious Sam type after this discussion.

Spot on but a-lot of offence has been taken for some reason. How dare I prefer Lukaku and call Costa out!

What you call baggage, I call it brilliance. He knows EXACTLY what he is doing, whether you like it or not, him being a villain is one of his strongest points because he get's in the defenders mind and psychologically frustrates them, thus leading to overreactions and outbursts against him.
He had 10 yellow cards and 0 red cards during the 2016/2017 season. Diego Costa won 82 FOULS for Chelsea last season. Like it or not, that is a massive advantage. Only Eden Hazard (86) and Wilfried Zaha (100) won more then him.

Your "liability" has no ground to walk on, matter of fact it only proves how great Costa is.

Wobble on mate.

Genuinely wonder who they'll end up with striker wise. There's a dearth of quality strikers available at the minute and I'm just glad we got ourselves sorted. I don't think the Aguero stuff is a runner whatsoever but either of Auba or Belotti would be cracking signings.

Which is exactly what he was in Spain before even arriving at Chelsea. He's always been a massive WUM on the pitch and it works as he winds the defenders up no end and it's likely they lose concentration which in turn contributes to his goal tally.

Auba is supposedly a no-go now as Dortmund gave him a deadline to sort out a move and it's now passed. According to Bild that's that and Dortmund have closed the door barring a ridiculous bid (€100m was mentioned).

Aye, I heard that alright but I still think Auba would be on the cards if ridiculous money was offered. There's absolutely no way back for Costa so they really need to start acting fast. Their whole transfer window to-date, has been pretty strange really.

So, youre going to casually ignore my post then? Typical.

That's true alright. He has gotten away with some utter madness on the pitch and I don't know how. I remember against Arsenal he got Gabriel sent off but should have seen red himself that game. He's always been an utter wum for sure and was detested in Spain too. I'm sure Real fans will be delighted to see him back.

Agree that it is strange which kind of makes me wonder if Batshuyai is showing his skills in the pre-season now that Costa is out of the picture. Perhaps they are considering sticking with what they have. It would be a surprise yet stranger things have happened.

Except it doesn't work at all as how you're describing it. How on earth could you possibly act like Costa always wins these cnut duels with defenders? There's been plenty of matches he looks more interested in trying (and failing) to intimidate his opposition than playing football. Those same outbursts you're claiming the opposition does because of him, goes both ways and is very tiring to watch. He's strong and likes to dribble, likes contact. He's going to draw fouls. How many fouls has he conceded?

He did the same thing a few pages back. I explained my opinion with lots of points, but because I said I think his opinion is hogwash, I was being "rude" and was informed other people and allowed to have differing opinions. Ya know, instead of engaging in a discussion as you do on a FORUM.

Actually, I thought Batshuyai (had to copy and paste that one!) looked pretty good when he played last season, well the little chances that he got.

He was certainly good at holding the ball up though like you say we did not get to see him much.

That's the crux of the issue for me. As I have stated - god knows how many times now - yes, he's a talented player but all too often I have seen his antics adversely affect his own game as opposed to the opponents that he's trying to wind up.

Someone like Terry (I'll use a Chelsea example) could be a proper cnut on the pitch, but he didn't let it get to the extent that it affected his performances.

I think youre mistaking me for someone else. I would love Icardi at Chelsea. Unfortunately, that boat sailed a while back though. If Inter have not sold him all this while even under pressure from their ultras, they are unlikely to do it now especially since they dont need the money.

Ah whoops, my mistake!

Have you gone on tour yet?

No, first ones on the 22nd. We only have 3 tour games strangely, Arsenal, Bayern and Inter out in China and Singapore. I'd assume there would be a few more friendly games fitted in somewhere though, 3 seems small.

Lukaku no baggage? Tell Ashley Williams that.

Yeah that's few games and iirc United had something similar two years ago. Seems us and Arsenal are the only teams that have started properly yet.

Really odd how small their squad is. Given how good their young players are you might think it makes sense, but they don't seem to care about that and have let Solanke, Ake, Chalobah, Abraham and Loftus-Cheek all leave either permanently or on loan. Struggle to see what they would do in an injury crisis.

Not sure if shushing someone is baggage - especially when you're comparing him to Dieeeeeeeego

Anyways, it should have read 'no baggage *for a footballer'

Literally just shushed Ashley Williams on the pitch, was blown out of proportion

I don't even remember anything about that. Christ, in what world does that constitute as 'baggage'. Especially compared to fecking Costa and his shenanigans.
