Chelsea 2017/18 thread - FA Cup Champs, League chumps

Same here. Jose acted normally but Conte was off celebrating. Even in the post match he shrugged it of saying its "not important" rather than saying he forgot or something on those lines.

After what happened last season when he shook his hand? I would avoid the situation as well.
Why this obsession about managers shaking hands anyways? I could not care less. Conte has a point when he says what matters is on the pitch not off the pitch. All these side shows are just important for the media to fill the gaps.

No. A handshake at the end of any contest is the honourable thing to do unless your opponent is a total cnut (like say wenger or benitez).

Which is exactly why Conte chose not to shake Mourinho's hand

Thrilled for Bakayoko! Thought he had an immense game even if overshadowed by the other obvious contenders. He's shown he is an aerial threat, but hopefully he can add a good shot into his game to complete that box-to-box feel.

Bakayoko is just not good enough to reach the level you hope. Sorry.
Chelsea fans are crying for Bakayoko to become a worldclass, ever since they lost Matic to United.

No. Mourinho can be cnutish at times but over all he is fine. That was poor form by Conte.

He is just having a bit of trouble settling in a new league but will be a solid player for us over the years while Matic is already floundering and is pretty much on his last legs as an elite level player. Not that there should be a comparison anyway.

Bakayoko is 22 years old. Has a massive ceiling. His performances against Spurs and United have been immense as well as his performances for Monaco. Dont know why you think he is not good enough to reach the world class level, when he has shown all the signs. Wont be surprised if Bakayoko and Kante form one of the most formidable Cm partnerships.

I thought he was rubbish tbh. Your team could have won by 2 more goals if it weren't for his poor composure. Conte shouldn't play him this advanced or rather attacking move shouldn't find him in the best positions.

A bit harsh. He was good. His strengths are carrying the ball forward, dribbling and breaking up playing. He is 22, in a much stronger league and Conte is asking him to play a role that he isn't used to, but probably has the talent to master. He needs time.

Oh so they are game raisers, just like every other team who do well against us. Why do these teams manage to turn games into cup finals while we don't?
To be fair every team raises their game when facing United. It's nothing new. It doesn't help when your manager is Mourinho either. Chelsea play like they have something to prove to him everytime we go there.

Bakayoko was really good yesterday and proved me and a lot of other doubters wrong. No Problem to admit that. If anything Kante was not that great.
However, for us and our current Situation Matic was the right choice. We have been missing stability for years. The Problem is that witout Pogba this stability is not enough as we are missing dominance and power in midfield.

Carrying the ball forward yes, breaking up play definitely yes but more than that (dribbling, creating, scoring) is asking too much from him at the moment at least.

I wasn't being serious.

Get over yourself mate. I don't care one bit about Matic leaving for any other reason that we lost some cover, which we addressed a little with the purchase of Drinkwater. Matic may be good for you guys in the role you play him in (and then again, I wouldn't base that on the match against us because he was as bad as the rest of your team), but I think Bakayoko has given glimpses that he'll not be missed in the long run. If Bakayoko adds consistency and delivers these performances more often than not, we won't miss Matic at all.

I though Baka was good yesterday, awful finish aside.
That's how I saw it too. Very good game in central midfield, poor decisions in front of the goal. The same goes for Morata & Hazard too, Chelsea could have scored a couple more with better composure on the final ball.

Kante was fantastic yesterday, what were you watching? lol. He is literally our engine in midfield, he's a massive blow when he's gone. He just returned from injury and was absolutely everywhere. Credit to him. I agree Matic is and will be important for you. I would have liked Pogba to be fit for you guys yesterday as it would have set up an even better game imo. Mourinho needs to start being more offensive though, because you guys have so much pace and power in offence, it's a waste to play cautious.

Conte drops Luiz due to attitude and replaces him with christiansen who doesnt put a foot wrong.

Players show they have fight for him, and now emannalo steps down. Conte winning the power struggle.

Fabregas and Bakayoko would have walked through our midfield. Mourinho isn't going to set us out to be suicidal.

Not sure about that. Fabregas needs legs beside him to function at his best, which I don't think just Baka gives him. Kante does to some extent, but 3 in midfield is the best way for us to go. We just set up well yesterday and almost every player turned up.

Why does he not play Martial often? He's a talent and bemuses me why he doesn't play up top for you. Can him and Rashford not play together successfully or am I missing something?

He prefers to play Rashford with Mkhitaryan. Real shame.

Apparently Emenalo has quit Chelsea.
Things just keep getting better for Chelsea fans.

In yesterday's formation where would Martial play? I don't agree with others that he could play in Mkhi's position. Even Mkhi is a problem there.

I think the 3 at the back is to compensate for the fact that we cant match up in midfield atm.

His movement off the ball is insanely good. Yesterday as well he dragged 2 CBs away to give Morata so much space for that goal.

It only worked because they were stupid on that particular moment. Do you think he calculated it all ?
No but you have keep doing it to make them fall for it. He kept making similar runs against spurs as well so its definitely intentional.

Emanalo stepped down from his position. Thats a massive statement from Abramovich. Must finally be backing up Conte it seems

That's literally massive for Conte. Looks like Abramovich is going to give him a bit more control. Still think they need to sack Marina, and get football people on the board. Pirlo will get a job there probably

Conte wanted to bring in Sabatini when he first arrived. Too bad he isn't available anymore but trust Conte to help bring someone similarly skilled at transfer dealings on the continent.

I would be amazed if Conte has any say whatsover on Emelano's replacement.

Reports are saying he was just stuck in the middle between Conte and chairwoman. He didn't really take a side. Is that true?

He wanted the manager job and has been acting like a back seat driver with the squad for a while now. Trying to force his own players on managers and instigating players to rebel. Total snake this guy.

Morata really is a class act, and still adjusting to the division. In time, I think he'll score just as many as Lukaku over a season, whilst also possessing clearly much greater technical ability and a better all round game for the team.

I do wonder whether our youth policy will change now with Emenalo out of the picture. We have too many young players on loan and too much wasted money, not to mention average (if that) talent on loan. It will be an interesting few weeks.

Nah those were some bs rumors. He probably preferred a backroom job. The guy doesn’t know much about management. Honestly with these Russian allegations, Roman being a Putin loyalist, and even Roman’s wife being seen at Trump’s inauguration, this club’s top people are probably shady.

No. He definitely wanted to weasel his way into the manager job like grant did.

What has this got to do with anything?
