Chelsea 2017/18 thread - FA Cup Champs, League chumps

I've just noticed we have a 9 point gap over them. Wow. Safe to say they are not getting into CL at our expense.

I find it Fergiesquely brilliant ... at Christmas we were in bad form and the race for CL was wide open. Then Mourinho lets on Conte for a lengthy media bar brawl. Then Chelsea crumble, and now we are almost certain to play CL next year.

Antonio Conte is so leaving Chelsea after this season. A world class coach that will do wonders elsewhere. Chelsea hasn't given him the right support. Happy to see him somewhere else.

So will the next Chelsea manager hope he doesn’t have a Conte season the following season if they win the league?

Right now, it doesn't even look he'll finish the season. After (and if) they're dropped from the Champions League, he will probably go.

Technically it would be impossible for the new manager to avoid a Conte season as easily as Antonio has avoided a Mourinho one.

We will likely finish 5th, which is 11 places better off than were Jose left us, meaning the best improvement that the next guy can make is 4 places :)

That just shows the players knew they had to almost be in danger of relegation to get Mourinho out, to get Conte sacked they just need to be 5th.

I hope so. He deserves to coach a better team and deal with a more generous board.

He'll probably complete the season regardless and leave in summer with "mutual consent" as usual. Games are coming thick for them and their schedule is terrible, hardly anytime for a managerial change now.

I think Conte, his players and even board accepted the fact that he's a goner in summer and just passing time till it finally happens.

That hasn't exactly worked out for United so far (post Fergie).

We are getting there, mate.
Since Jose came in (who should've been the one to replace SAF, in the first place), we have won 2 trophies in his first season and are looking to finish in 2nd place this season, behind a record breaking MCFC.
After 3 years of decline, it takes time to go back to the top and stay there.

It's quite bizarre that the moment the Jose-Conte feud began, Chelsea's fortunes nose-dived.
Quite bizarre? It's perfectly normal, that's what usually happens when you enter a bad feud with him, and they aimed quite low.

Meanwhile in Stoke

That club is absolutely toxic. How many top managers have they tossed to the curb over the years? The dressing room is rotten there, at least we can see now that Jose's fallout there wasn't all it was made out to be in the media. The likes of Hazard are openly questioning Conte bare-faced to the media, now. Conte is a decent chap I reckon, nothing against him - go to PSG, Antonio.

Right on. I wish Conte all the best whenever he goes to and he deserves a top job like being in charge of PSG where he would be backed to the hilt.

The Board needs to have its collective heads chopped with one fell swoop and be replaced by real Football men except for the commercial director. Even new ownership should be considered if the club continues to wallow in chaos.

It seems Conte is PSG bound, his brother had a chat with some fans at his cafeteria in Turin last week.

It was quick then... boom & bust in one year and half. Can't see why United fans take the upper ground though, United are just dying the same death more slowly and with minor honours, just a Sevillazo away from implosion.

Ashamed for this jinx but non United-centric followers of the game could see thin ice all written on the wall.

Why are Chelsea receiving virtually no press coverage despite sitting outside the top 4, out of Europe and being 16 points worse off at this point than last season?

Wrong back then, wrong still now.

Club not winning major trophies like PL or CL is not slow death.

Doubt your ashamed.

I would say a few reasons;

A) People are used to us dipping a year after winning the title as it has happened previously
B) We got knocked out to one of the best 3 teams in the champions league and actually didn't play too badly considering
c) We have spurs this weekend who are above us for top 4 so I guess mass hysteria is reserved until after that
d) We probably get off lightly as we've one 2 of the last 3 titles and people are used to seeing us bounce back and win again

Probably true. He doesn't look bothered anymore and is continually complaining about not getting the players he wanted.

He's fallen out with quite a few players as well by the look of it. Luiz, Morata, Hazard, Courtois (wants to go to be with his family in Madrid?) and probably others.

I don't think our back 3 actually works very well without Luiz in the middle of it. His distribution was a cut above.

We'll almost certainly finish 5th. Can't seeing us beating (12 man) Tottenham or finishing above them, even without Kane.

We're a shambles at the moment.

Seems clear to me he has little confidence in the team at the beginning of the season and that never changed. Players felt the manager didn't believe in them and it affected their confidence as well

That said...Conte outthoght and outcoached Valverde, badly, and chelsea still ended up losing 4-1 on aggregate...sure Conte is probably at fault for his players lacking in confidence, guys like david luiz being out of the team, etc. But also, he probably has a point: the team is just not good enough individually to compete with the likes of barcelona

Bye bye Antonio! Bit of a shit show this season from the reigning champions.

They seem to rest on their laurels every time they win the league and don't really reinforce. It's weird.

So the past 3 champions have all missed out on champions league the next season... let's hope it happens to City

Finishing 5th, unless Arsenal catch us. Not that it really matters.

Shambles.

They were third for most of the campaign.
They have been awful since January.
