Probably back 3 tax again.
I mean, the opinions on Donnarumma are clearly somewhat inflated by his penalty heroics at the Euro. But these numbers say very little about the quality of goalkeepers. You can concede more goals and still be the better keeper, when you sit behind a poor defense that concedes more chances.
Can't be seeing a midfield again this season without one of Jorginho, Kante or Kovacic. Game like tonight just show how key they are to us and how much of a step down what we have to replace them are.
As an Ajax supporter its great to see Ziyech is starting to make more impact on regular basis.. Thought he was very good against United as well..
It's absolutely insane how many young players Chelsea have on loan who are regarded as good or going to be good.
Tuchel seems like he gives such players a chance, so it might be a bit of a new turning point for Chelsea compared to the buying and selling approach of Abrahamovic.

defence overnight and won CL last year. Great achievement imo. With the only addition in Silva (Chillwell), defensively?
I used to laugh at their defense under Lampard. So many times I wondered why they splashed 250 mill on the attack when they had Ruediger, Christensen, Azpi, Zouma(then) ,and Alonso in the back 4.
Then they have James and Chillwell (which is great). But I still cant believe Tuchel’s doing so good with that material.. just shows what the right manager can do.
Pool and City are different class atm so I dont know if Chelsea can keep it up. We’ll see.

My point is that you’ve spent Around €350mill on attacking players last two seasons with a mediocre defence. I thought you were doing an Arsenal to be honest.
But Chelsea proved me wrong last season and I’ll eat up my words now. As I Said CL last season was a great achievement. I thought you’d get Schooled by Atletico in the QF I remember. Thats what my first post was all about really
Our injuries are really mounting up this season, to still be top despite regular or lengthy injuries to Kovacic, Kante, Jorginho, Chilwell, Christensen, Lukaku, Pulisic and Werner makes me very happy.
We had our three first choice midfielders out yesterday and scraped to a result. In a way i think it's helped Tuchel keep the harmony in the squad as he hasn't had to make too many difficult decisions yet
With Kante regularly getting injured and being on the wrong side of 30 i think Rice is almost certain to happen this summer

The second I saw the lineup, it was a take the points and run game, just needed to win and get over that. Completely agree with the above, one of the 3 has to play at all times... such a shame to lose Trev last night that was probably the worst part
However should have quite a few more players fit for saturday, thought Kai looked very strong last night had a fight about him that I'v seen fairly rarely, could this be a kick on performance for him?
Pool look very good at the moment but it will all go in swings and cycles, got to keep grinding out the 3 points through December
Don't forget Silva and James. Your injuries are actually going under the radar, those are big names to be missing for chunks.

Yeah it seems like this season is making up for last year somehow. So many key players out and yet we've still managed to stay on track.
I don't fancy us to stay there unless we can keep 2 of Jorginho, Kante, Kova or RLC fit at all times.
Mad that nobody seems to care Lukaku hasnt scored in 9 and Saul has been completely frozen out. The noise you would hear from pundits etc if it was at United

If you were top of the table people wouldn't care. This stuff only generally gets criticized when the team isn't performing and those decisions start to look like they're costing you in terms of results.
This tax isn't exclusive to Mendy, most keepers with top stats get dismissed due to extenuating circumstances. Alisson and Ederson have won clean sheet trophies and get dismissed because of the "protection of their defense" or "their team holds a lot of possession".
We're top of the league and champions of Europe, thats why there's little "noise".
Also Saul is only a loan so nobody really cares about him.

There'll always be some that do, but given how good City and Pool are, it would show a bit of a lack of self awareness. Our league position probably doesn't completely accurately reflect our performances to date.
We done well to get 3 points last night. We were lucky too but overall I’d say it was deserved.
Missing the 4 across the middle has a huge impact on how we play. The back 3 and front 3 can change without massive disruption but losing James, Kante, Jorginho and Chilwell impacted us both in attack and defence.

Be interested to see if Gilmour and Gallagher stay with the main squad next season.
Gallagher certainly will, Tuchel had spoken about how close they both were this season. Gallagher is impressing and getting regular minutes, with Saul going I would presume he would take that spot
Its funny as I would have said Gilmour was the more likely to be integrated next year but his loan for this season has been rubbish! So I can see him going out on loan next year for further minutes
Mendy is better than Donnarumma regardless. I agree stats can be overvalued but people will do that regardless. Especially the xG shite.

Not yet, but people are getting a little short with their patience for sure. If we were not first in the table, it might have started to get ugly.
Chelsea won the league only a few years previously under Conte using a back 3 and wingbacks. Sarri and Lampard deviated away from that. Lampard was completely lost and their team shape was horrific. Similar to the last couple of months with Ole at United. Shape was way too soft and leaking goals.
Reverting back to a back 3 and having the central midfielders do what they do best - press, cover areas, and be high energy, winning the ball, allowed them to be much more competitive because they are difficult to breakdown. They were much more stable and the CL winning run glossed over their league form, which was above average, but not amazing.
Then they implemented a more aggressive team press/closing down, then they supplemented the team again this past off season.
Tuchel was very honest and pragmatic about the team shape and just making them more competitive and hard to breakdown.
Have to give credit to Watford. They didn't let inexperienced midfield pair to breath. Referee didn't help either. They harrassed hurried us at every opportunity. Didn't allow the flow of the game.
It's in your face type performance from Watford. If they keep the intensity then present bottom three will not catch them.
Reece and chilwell missed the game at same time also added the extra pressure for midfield to create and control the game.
We are good to go with easy to moderate fixtures after West ham. If we still hold the no.1 after liverpool game then we can start to dream about league title.

If they had a prime Hazard or Robben they'd win this league. Their attacking options are really good but they're not quite elite.

Bit of an overreaction.
Chelsea's luck has run out. They look like us last season fluking undeserved wins left, right and centre. They are certainly not as good as Liverpool or City.
That's why I'm asking? Seems like neither of the big money forwards are doing that well.

Not a chance. Unless we sell Werner, which isn't happening until the summer.
It surprised me that so many tipped Chelsea for the title. They are nowhere near as good as City or Liverpool. They have points on the board so will more than likely finish third, but I wouldn't be too shocked if they found themselves in a battle for top 4.
