Chelsea vs Manchester United

Valencia will definitely play a part in the second half I think, his pace will scare the life out of Chelsea's back four. It's true about Park, we have a big season coming up and he has not participated much in pre-season which makes sense. Owen is a possibility to come up but if Berba and Wayne are doing well I don't think he will be used.

I'm looking at Evans to produce the goods today as well. I was really impressed with him last season, specially the Chelsea home game at Old Trafford. He is a legend in the making and I hope he performs well with Rio today.

I think he hasn't played Valencia or Owen from the start because they're the type of players who could take advantage of a tired defence later in a match - Valencia with his blistering pace and direct running and then Owen with his ability to strike at any moment and take a chance. All it takes is a Chelsea player being tired with a lapse in concentration and Owen will be right in there.

Evans is always capable of filling in for Rio or Vidic and I'm sure he'll not disappoint today.

Good team out there. Valencia not starting due to his playing time in the pre-season games I guess. Midfield will be the key for this game, and I hope to see the lads take the lead and control this area of the field. Looking forward for Rooney too.

Er Valencia joined us late in pre-season, he's only had a couple of games, his fitness levels presumably aren't up to Park or Nani's level yet.

feck all width for Chelsea.

I dunno. Malouda will give them natural width on the left with Cole providing some over there too and i wouldn't be susprised to see Anelka provide the width from the right.

Chelsea:

Cech
Ivanovic Terry Carvalho Cole
Mikel
Essien Malouda
Lampard
Anelka Drogba

That's a good team. It is going to be a real battle against Drogba who I rate as one of the best strikers in the world. He loves a psychical clash with defenders so we really need to be on our toes. If their ever was such thing as a 'big game player' Drogba embodies it.

After the whole Scolari issue he will be looking to prove a point again this season and in pre-season he has looked amazing scoring a few wonder goals in the process. Their midfield is looking extremely strong in Essien,Lampard and Mikel who will be looking to dominate.

I think we need to try and exploit Ivanovic's defensive deficiencies at every opportunity, I perceive him as a weak link in their back four.

Park has barely played either, however.

Well Vidic would've been ideal against Drogba, due to his physical prowess. Rio will more than likely be used to cope with Anelkas pace so I can see Jonny Evans having a few problems with Drogba.

It'll be Nani v Ivanovic, interesting indeed, we all know Nani has the capability to tear players like him apart, but we don't know if he'll actually do it or just run around like a chicken.

Hey all,

In Spain and theres no coverage so if anyone has a link please PM me. Thanks in advance..

Wasn't it Evans that pocketed Drogba at Old Trafford last season? Albeit with Vidic as his partner. Point is that he has done it twice before; home and away last season.

He has but that's when Drogba was playing shit and constantly injured. A fully fit Drogba could cause the young chap a lot of problems. He's one of the most intimidating strikers in the world.

Gibson preferred to Anderson on the bench. Interesting. Shows the squad is still very strong when we can name a subs bench without Anderson, Macheda and Welbeck not to mention unknowns like Tosic and Obertan when the likes of Hargreaves, Vidic, Wes, Rafael and VDS are injured.

I am fairly happy with the side we have put out. Would like to see Owen, Valencia and Giggs get a run out second half but the result is unimportant in this game. It is all about seeing how this new look side performs.

Good team from us.

Valencia will definitely come on in the second half and hopefully we will be winning the game by then so there is more space for him to exploit. Its our final test before the Premier League season starts and im looking forward to a strong showing from us.

Cmon United!!

We'll just wait and see but Evans has kept some the world's top strikers quiet - Zlatan, Torres, Drogba.

The lad can do it.

Thank god we're not playing in a big game then.

Ivanovic is a lot more solid than Bosingwa though. I see him as a John O'Shea type of player, capable of playing right across the backline and quite solid.

Drogba could easily trouble Evans. Evans stands off too much imo and isnt that strong.

The most interesting thing will be to see where the Berba plays, infront or behind Rooney, hopefully infront.

Or even that third option: alongside!

Ah, the long lost days of 442.

That Chinese (?) guy saying "Manchester TV, it must be good, I'm sure about that" is really pissing me off now. I'm sure it's only on as a piss take but damned annoying.

Right I know it's 'only' the Charity Shield and it isn't exactly highest in the list of priorities but it's against Chelsea and I always like getting one over those Renties so let's get it on....COME ON UNITED!!!
