Chelsea vs. Manchester United

We'll lose tonight. But if we can get an away goal we'll do them at Old Trafford IMO.

Everytime we play Chelsea now, I keep hoping our luck will change against them because we haven't played badly against them in recent games. We've just been on the end of some truly horrible decisions.

Let's hope our luck changes tonight.

VDS

Evra
Vidic
Smalling
Rafel

Nani
Scholes
Giggs
Valencia

Rooney
Berba

I think we will come away with a 2-1 win.

If we go 2 up front and play Carrick - Gibbo... I'll shit in my pants.

4-5-1...

----------------Rooney--------------

---------------Park------------------

Giggs-----Scholes---Carrick------Nani

Evra---Vidic-------Smalling-------Wes

--------------VDS-------------------

High pressing game and just pile the pressure on them and find a chance for Giggs/Nani to provide the final ball with Park lurking and making himself a nuissance to Chelsea with his good link up play and energy...

2nd Half bring on Valencia for Park, Shift Giggs central or Bring on Berba/Chico... and Kill them !!!!!!!!!

The boys need to put the chelsea squad on their heels from the opening whistle. This is how clubs like Stoke do so well against them. Aggressive constant push is the only way it is going to get done.

Rooney is going to have to come up big on this match. Going through the Chelsea results... it's the opposing forwards that are making the difference most of the time. Wayne will need to be at his best, with a cool and focus head.

Rooney to score 1 and Giggs to score 1

Finding that I'm not as nervous about this match as I was the league game, for two reasons.

I really want us to win the league more than anything else this season

I don't think Barcelona can be stopped in the CL

That said, I've got a sneaky feeling we're going to produce something a little special tonight. I'm very often a pessimist when it comes to Chelsea matches, but I'm going for a 2-1 win for us tonight.

time... is... sooo.. so.. sloow... today.. :nervous:

I hope we start with Nani and Valencia on the wings, and Park behind Roo. Which central midfielders are ready? Scholes and Carrick? That'll do. That's my front six then. VDS, Vidic and Smalling is a given, Evra will start, so the question is the right back. Who can play?

Aye.

It's a usually a pretty boring fixture as it is. Factor in the fact that it's a Champions League first leg tie and I expect it to be even cagier.

Will certainly be shocked if it turns out to be an exciting match.

The last time we played them was a cracker. Depressing the way we faded so badly and the result obviously left a horrible taste but it was an excellent, evenly matched, game of football.

The last encounter before that - the Charity Shield - was another hum-dinger, only considerably more fun to watch for us United fans!

Yep, I think that's most people's predicted line-up. Fábio is the 'most fit' player so far, I think. He's played the last two games, while Brown, O'Shea, and Rafael have been out. O'Shea and Rafael due to hamstring injuries which are very iffy to say the least, any one of them could make it. But at the moment I'm thinking Fábio is favourite, I wouldn't be displeased to see any of those four starting really, though.

The only other options are if Giggs has enough in the tank to start (90 minutes against West Ham), if Valencia will start (90 minutes against West Ham and still weaving his way back in). Then there's Anderson who could start in the middle, or even Gibson (but I doubt that). Fletcher might be a possibility if he's recovered, but the fact Anderson and Fletcher have little recent game time, and Gibson just isn't good enough, makes me think we'll have Scholes, Carrick, and Park/Giggs in the middle. Nani is sure to start, if it's Giggs in the middle, Park might start over Valencia on the left.. Few options, all viable. But I'd like to see the front six you suggested the most.

Moving from my excited phase to my 'shitting it' phase now. I love and hate European match days.

I fecking hate Stamford Bridge, we always seem to get screwed over, really hope we pull out of tonight and smash the cnuts.

99% of the time whenever we play 451 with Giggs and Park starting we're shite.

Hopefully, Valencia and Nani are on the wings so we can tear them apart. I'm not getting my hopes for Berba starting though

We do always seem to get screwed over there, you're right. This is why surely, by the law of averages alone, we will have a good night ...

I'm still in my excited phase but I can't sit still.

I hope you're right, I was more optimistic a few hours ago and I'll probably get gradually more so again as the afternoon wears on.

I'm a complex soul

Yeah you're right but I'm still not expecting much.

A cagey 1-1 draw suits me nicely.

As for line ups, I reckon Anderson might get a start tonight, obviously depending where he is fitness-wise. Perfect kind of game for him.

Would he last the 60 minutes though? ;)

I'm 30 mins away from Chelsea. Talk about buzzing. Tonight i will see history being made again. The wait is killing me. I thought I would just share that with you all :D

I don't feel nervous.

I see 19 as the big thing this year.

CL just a bonus.

I always consider the league as number 1 and everything else as a bonus, but I still go through a range of emotions during the day of a big Euro match. I'll have butterflies in my stomach all afternoon. Days like this are what football is all about!

Surprised no one is putting Hernandez in the starting line up the way he pulled their defenders all over the place a few weeks ago, I'd play Rooney and Hernandez with park and valencia/nani on the wings and carrick and scholes in the centre.

I've never been less confident about a Chelsea game, and at Stamford Bridge I rarely have confidence. I just have that horrible feeling that they'll go all out for this given that they're probably out of the title race, while we have two other competitions to go for. Having said that, I'd rather go out now than be comprehensively beaten in the final by Barca/Madrid, possibly jeopardising our League/FA Cup runs with the extra games. No chance of the treble.

We're due a result there. I thought it was going to come in the league match but we messed up the second half. SURELY we have to win there some time. Why not today......:)

Edit: Nice of SSN to just show Drogba score at OT despite it being blatantly offside, feck it we're going to to win 2-1\3-1
