Chelsea vs. Manchester United

I want to see how they lineup without Luiz. He has been a tremendous signing for them. He has improved their defense vastly. Now I think it will be either Terry-Alex or Terry-Ivanovic in central defense.

Alex is out until the second leg.

It will be Terry and Ivanovic with Bosingwa at right back.

would settle now for a score draw at SB but of course would love if we trashed them there - can't see that happening, but I'm always hopeful ahead of kickoff.

I'm finding it tough to call the team on this one, so much talent up the front third of the pitch. We truly are blessed.

-------------------Rooney--------------------
------------------Chicharito-------------------

I think Chicharito's pace and movement could make a mockery out of Chelsea's defence, especially with Luiz not being involved, and also Terry doesn't cope with pace sometimes. Rooney just behind Chicharito - he can support him when we're on the attack, but drop back towards midfield to help out if we're under attack ourselves or if Chelsea are winning the midfield battle. I'd go with Anderson in midfield, his bite and energy could be important.

As long as we get a goal, I'd be happy with 1-1.

Eh? Nani was rested for this game.

Don't you know Aaron?

Aaron is the guy that thinks Nani will now be spending plenty of time on the subs bench.

Oh my. Someone else who shares the same opinion. They must really hate Nani!!

I mean, it is inconceivable this Nani-hating Jacob fella would argue that Sir Alex in an away tie at Chelsea might seek to make use of Park in the position that he often plays in during these games in order to keep it tight on the left.

Jacob you Nani hating scum you!!

Nani has to play. I want Hernandez to start as well, think he'll cause them all sorts of problems.

Following on from our 2-1 loss the last time we played em, I'll be happy with a goal to take back to OT. I don't want to get too over confident, even though I am because of yesterday's performance. Probably play 4-5-1 with Hernandez up top on his own.

Given the way we fecking destroyed them for an hour last month with Rooney and Hernandez causing all sorts of trouble i'd be surprised if we didn't go with them 2 again.

I think Fergie will consider Hernandez due to the lack of pace in chelseas centre but will play it safe. Like many games against Chelsea, whoever wins the midfield battle will win this, meaning that whoever is charged with getting on top of chelseas midfield, be it carrick, anderson, fletcher, park, will play a huge role in the game. I think our key could be Valencia and Nani, i really dont believe Chelsea will be able to cope with them, just like in the community shield when valencia gave them absolute hell. With Rooney on top form now i think a goal wouldn't be unlikely and if we look dangerous but no goal is coming we have two quality strikers on the bench. Chelsea front few have been so hit and miss this season thats its hard to see where their threat will come from if Lampard is kept quiet. When we played them in the league they didnt look like scoring apart from being dangerous at set pieces and got goals from a defender due to bad defending on our part and a very soft penalty. So long as we dont play into Torres hands and allow his constant diving to influence anything then i dont think we should fear him.

Prediciton: I'm going to go Chelsea 1-2 Man Utd with United to go two up through Rooney and Nani and then Chelsea to pull one back.

This is a very solid line up will be hoping for something similar and Scholes gets subbed for Hernandez to come in 20 minutes from time and change the formation to 442

I reckon it'll be 0-0. We'll play it cagey, a typical euro away performance and hope to nick an away goal as we've usually managed over the last few years. They'll struggle to break us down, we'll struggle to knit together the caution with desire to score and create. The longer the game goes, the happier both will be to decide the game at OT, Chelsea with knowledge that the away goal rule would be in their favour for potentially 120 minutes, and us with the confidence we can beat anybody at OT.

0-0 and Torres to inevitably get his first Chelsea goal in the return :(

Well at least now no one will complain as much to Rooney getting picked over Berbatov to play up top alone this season.

It has to be between Park and Anderson in midfield. Scholes and Carrick are already decided. Park has proven to be a big game player often. Anderson has started this season and not disappointed. It is a tough choice to make.

David Luiz isn't special defensively. He was very poor against Stoke.

I hope to see this line-up.

van der Sar

Fabio - Smalling - Vidic - Evra

Carrick - Scholes

Valencia - Park - Nani

Rooney

Agree with that team. When is Fletcher due back?

I don't think we need Park against these lot -

Carrick Scholes
Valencia Rooney Nani
Hernandez

As to defence - I#ll leave that to SAF ;)

This will do me. Giggs to come off the bench with 20 minutes to go and put them to the sword.

Isn't one of Rafael / Brown / O'Shea meant to be back for this?

I agree with this, Fergie talked about playing our football yesterday and I think we will do the same again, we are better on the front foot than trying to contain given our defensive injuries, we have the attacking quartet to put them on the back foot and push for that vital away goal.

I think we'll win by a goal difference. We've hit top form.

------Carrick-----Scholes---

Valencia -- Anderson -- Nani

My heart tells me 4-4-2 :(

EDIT: Actually, it's possible we play 4-4-2, if Park is a left winger. With him on the side, it almost feels as 4-3-3

Tough to predict our line-up for this one - 4-4-2 with Rooney just behind Chicharito or Wazza up front on his own? Park et Valencia or will Nani come in for this one?

Don't think both Valencia and Nani will start. I can see Giggs on the left, Valencia to the right and Park just ahead the centre mids.

Having Hernandez on will make the job so much more difficult for Chelsea's defence, but will probably also make it a bit more easy for their midfield to cut through ours. Tough decision for SAF.

Not necessarily, as you would just stick Rooney on the flank and drop one of Valencia or Nani.

Tough one - shows how the squad depth is coming together just at the right time!
