Chelsea vs Manchester United

Same as today but start Welbeck for Chicharito and Rafael for Smalling or Rio. DDG if he is fit, Nani too.

DDG
Raf-Smalling-Evans-Evra
Val-Carrick-Scholes-Nani/Park
Berba-Welbeck

Evans at... right back?

No one will listen, so sometimes I like to throw out something different. But he seemed to be taking up right back at times today. It was hard to tell watching on TV, I'm guessing Smalling was covering for him at those times.

But Smalling at RB is fine, and more likely.

Hopefully Rooney will be back for this, Danny on the left, Valencia on the right, Carrick, Giggs and Park in midfield.

Rooney, Nani and Rio will be unlikely to play before mysteriously appearing in the starting line up

We should be beating them this time tbh., they look far from the formidable side they have been over the years.

Chelsea are not the force they used to be. But I think Fergie wont be underestimating them. Chelsea will be tight at the back and will play a patient game I think. We should play with 5 in midfield if Rooney is fit to play.

................De Gea................
Rafael.....Jones...Rio.........Evra
Valencia..Carrick..Scholes..Nani
.................Giggs..................
................Rooney................

You want to take out two in form defenders in Evans and Smalling?

Code:
                de Gea

Smalling Evans Ferdinand Evra

        Jones Carrick Giggs
Valencia Nani

                Rooney

SUBS:
Amos, Rafael, Fabio, Scholes, Park, Welbeck, Berbatov

Rooney is never good when coming back from injury. Obviously both him and Nani should play tho, they need some game time.

Code:
de Gea
Smalling Evans Ferdinand Evra
Valencia Carrick Giggs Park Nani
                Rooney

Or switch Giggs for Scholes.

I think we'll see Rooney and Welbeck up front. We'll see Berbatov and Hernandez for at least the first Ajax game I would think.

I imagine we'd also use the Ajax game to get Young and Cleverley back to fitness, as well as use Anderson and Pogba. So I wouldn't expect any of them to feature too heavily against Chelsea.

So you don't agree?

Rio should start if fully fit. He's still class. I'd go for 3 in midfield to start and if chances aren't being created then change it to 4-4-2 with Rooney or Welbeck coming on.

Sorry, I meant this bit...

I'd drop Rio and put Smalling and Evans in the centre . Evans is undroppable atm and Smalling oozes class at centre back.

Maybe put Rio in goal then, we're a bit short of keepers...;)

Who's the ref for this one? Hopefully not Martin Atkinson, obviously.

Goalkeeper
It's probably De Gea.........but i've said already that i wouldn't be worried with Amos in goal against Chelsea because he's a quality young goalkeeper.

Defence
I would go with Ferdinand and Evans as CB's.

Rafael and Evra as full-backs because both should attack Chelsea's full-backs, the same tactic like against Arsenal.

Midfield
Carrick and Giggs.

Valencia and Rafael against Chelsea's left-back (Probably Boswinga or AVB trusts Bertrand) should be a key-factor in our game.
Park has played well in the last games and should help Evra on the left-side if he goes forward.

Strikers
Welbeck against Chelsea's defence is another key-factor........maybe the biggest key-factor for us on Sunday.

I've heard Rooney is back in training today so he should be okay for Sunday, but Chicharito or Berbatov are good opitions too with Welbeck.

Anyway we're having to start with two strikers against Chelsea's poor defence.

Bench
Hopefully we're having some nice options from the bench with Nani, Scholes or Young too........plus of course Hernandez and Berbatov.

Attack Attack Attack

Rooney is never good when coming back from injury. Obviously both him and Nani should play tho, they need some game time.

I honestly wouldn't start Rooney if he was fit for that exact reason. He hardly ever is good just after returning from injury. Berba just played very well and Welbeck has been great the last couple of games, I'd rather see those two up top than an out of form Rooney. I know that won't happen though, Sir Alex will play Rooney if he's fit.

So basically, everyone's at least in some kind of agreement of:

de Gea > Amos
Rafael > Smalling or Evans
Giggs > Scholes
Rooney > Berbatov
Welbeck > Hernández

I can see Park keeping his place over Nani, but I wouldn't be bothered if Nani started either. I'm sure one will play 60~ and one will play 30~ (or Young could be in that mix too, but I think after injuries it might be better to bring them back in against Norwich instead). Ferdinand, Evans/Smalling, Carrick, and Valencia keep their places. Jones is another possible starter, but I'd bench him if fit too. Or we could play a 3-man midfield, Jones or Scholes would start over Welbeck or Rooney (if he's not fit).

Giggs - Carrick combo destroyed them in the CL last season. More of the same.

With our defence being stronger and our wingers playing better I reckon we have a good chance esp if we can get Rooney and nani back. Last time we exposed them out wide and we gave them chances from sloppy play as apposed to their cutting attacks. We look much more secure now and Chelsea aren't playing any different so fingers crossed we should be good, we're due a win there. I hope fergie doesn't go and play Valencia at right back so he can play park and nani. Need Rooney playing in the hole again if we're going two in the middle.

Any idea of who will replace cole at left back. With Valencia in great form even cole would have struggled. Chelsea dont seem to have a backup lb so whoever they pick could be a decisive factor in this game.

Candidates are, Bosingwa, Luiz and Bertrand, Ferreira.

Probs boswinga with ivanovic at right back. Should be good though we should be wary of him cutting inside on his right foot.

I prefer Scholes to Giggs, he just needs to rest after playing two games in short succession.

I'm honestly wondering whether Hernandez's movement against Luiz would be something to look at in terms of our starting XI. I know Welbeck's been in good form and will chase a lot of lost causes and Hernandez conversely isn't in great form but I could see Luiz having a nightmare against Chicharito
