yeah that defence looks good enough

We can put out a strong team if you look at our bench today. Defence is the only concern, hope Smalling's back. And I hope we don't play Carrick at the back.

Having Smalling back would be huge, I'd love to see him start this game. Like many others have said, he reminds me of a young Rio, though of course we'll be lucky if he's 80% the player Rio is.

But Rio has played 3 games in a week already this season, I'm sure he can do it again and start against Chelsea and Arsenal.

Lindegaard

Valencia
Smalling
Wootton
Buttner

Nani
Fletcher
Anderson
Young

Welbeck
Hernandez

SUBS: de Gea, Evans, Vermijl, Cleverley, Scholes, Giggs, Henriquez.

Maybe Vermijl for Valencia. Fairly sure Smalling will be back for this one. That defence does look frail though, no two ways about it and highlights the lack of defenders.

You dont half pick some easy games.......... up until today.

It's just coincidental. I didn't set out to make threads for easy games but just made them when the opportunity was there. Besides, I made threads for the only two wins in the CL last season and the Braga game was pretty close.

Not a chance that Scholes will play in this game. He's on 4 yellow cards so another means he'd miss Arsenal at the weekend.

Team should be....

Lindegaard

Rafael
Smalling
Evans
Buttner

Giggs
Fletcher
Anderson

Nani
Hernandez
Welbeck

Subs: De Gea, Wootton, Scholes, Powell, Young, Valencia, Rooney

I'm pretty sure Fergie said Smalling is still at least a couple of weeks away. As we're down to the bare bones on the defensive front (no defenders on the bench today, of course), I'm not sure Fergie can risk either Ferdinand or Evans for this one.

Lindegaard

Rafael
Evans
Smalling/Wooton
Buttner

Nani
Scholes
Anderson

Welbeck

6,000 Reds - Shed End.

Gonna be a top one

Hope we win, but not really arsed, get me.

We'll get every single decision against us just cause we got lucky with an offisde deicision today. Oh well, this one was the one that mattered.

22 Turnbull
24 Cahill
26 Terry
28 Azpilicueta
34 Bertrand
06 Romeu
07 Ramires (Oscar - 59' )
13 Moses
09 Torres (Hazard - 78' )
10 Mata (Marin - 70' )
35 Piazon

That was Chelsea's lineup V Wolves in the last round. I expect them to field a strong team.

Assuming (hoping) Lindegaard and Smalling are fit (and I think Powell was injured in the U21s in the week), then I'd like:

Lindegaard
Rafael---Smalling---Evans---Buttner
Fletcher
Cleverley---Anderson
Nani---Chicharito---Welbeck

Bench: De Gea, Wootton, Evra, Carrick, Brady, Valencia, Lingard

Not many young players unfortunately, but we have some fringe players needing time so we should be able to rest some key players (Rio, RVP, Rooney, Young, Scholes) completely, and hopefully not need Evra, Carrick or Valencia. Needs to be a reasonably strong team since both the sugar daddy clubs usually put out strong teams in the cups in an attempt to build themselves some history - I expect the Chelsea team to be pretty close to what it was today (with two obvious exceptions :smirk:).

Things get more complicated if Smalling isn't ready to start - but the priority for me would be that Rio doesn't play, so in that case then preferably Wootton with Keane replacing him on the bench, but SAF would likely go with Carrick.

Fletcher, Anderson, Nani, Welbeck, and Hernandez pretty much need to start and I reckon they will. I can see Scholes or Giggs starting as well, if Scholes doesn't then he's nailed on to play against Arsenal. Either way, I actually think Cleverley and possibly Carrick will be rested to play as part of a three against Arsenal (or with Rooney deeper). If we do play a proper central midfield three against Arsenal, then it might be a case of who plays themselves into the team.

I'd prefer to see Ferdinand rested, I don't see why he should play in this match. Might as well give Buttner another game. In fact, it'd be easier to say that the only players who started against Chelsea in the League that I'd want to start the Cup game are Rafael and Evans. So, like most people are saying, let's go with something like this please:

Lindegaard
Rafael Wootton Evans Buttner
Fletcher Scholes Anderson
Nani Hernandez Welbeck
--
de Gea; Keane; Giggs, Powell, Young; Rooney, van Persie

If Smalling is fit, I'd start him.

Chelsea will probably start Bertrand, Romeu, Marin, Moses, Sturridge etc. Although with them feeling a bit sour they could just play their first team to try and knock us out.

Despicable. Damien's been massaging his matchday record figures by preying on the likes of Otelul and Aldershot.

Scholes will have had 10 days rest by the time the game comes round, anymore and he'll be gettin splinters in his arse. Youngs been restin for the last 2 months. He needs games

I reckon Rooney, Cleverley and Hernandez will be the only players that'll play that took part yesterday.
