She's an idiot because her grandstanding is just that. She's not giving practical and workable solutions. She's not providing any answers, she's just shouting with righteous indignation. She's yelling at democratically elected people who can be hired and fired by their populace if said populace disagree on their climate stance. She has the right to want change, but other people have to right to say "you're either not proposing anything or not proposing anything workable". This is obvious of course because she's an idiot, not a scientist actively researching green technologies or an engineer building them... Just a 16 year old girl.

She's essentially stating either a) Oh my god you should be ashamed of yourselves for having sex as this is resulting in the spreading of STI's or b) no-one should have sex as that's the only way to limit the spreading of STI's. Neither is a position that holds any practical weight.

The non-idiots are the ones practically changing the world to reduce these effects, whilst not implying that a return to the stone ages is the answer. The scientists developing electric cars and artificial lab grown meat for example.

That's before even considering the fact that her presence causes a huge carbon footprint in and of itself.

Again you guys are putting words in my mouth as if I'm saying the planet is not in danger or climate change is not a big danger for the planet and humanity, I've also said I respect and admire her for what she did, all I'm saying is I'm worried for her well being and I found that using kids as the face of a cause to be ineffective because:
A. A lot of people won't take her seriously(not saying I don't take her seriously before you start putting words in my mouth again)
B. The skeptics will usually be like oh they are trying to toy with our emotions by using a child

And I know that because no matter the suffering Syrian kids went through no one helped to stop it, no one cared for the starving kids who had to eat cats while under bombardment, or the kids who got slained or shot for protesting, so excuse me for being synical and having an extremely thick skin after the terrors I saw that no one cared about, and how about the African children who are starving to death for years and still no sufficient help.

Well at first it was actually scientists saying that stuff and it didn't help. So a kid had to step up. It's not the other way around.

But i do agree with the last part of your post though. This probably won't change their minds either.

My retort was that she's not being MADE to feel scared (which mirrors what you said), and you make a clear reference to her being used. She's not being used, she fecking stood up and decided to make herself and her generation heard.

She has Asperger Syndrome. You can't make a person with AS doing something it doesn't want to do. It's part of the package.

She simply got interested on the subject and probably has more knowledge than a lot of people with degrees on the subject due to her intense curiosity.

It is indeed truly absurd that a minor is garnering so much recognition for forcing the issue to the table. As others have said, as adults in the room, we really should be ashamed its gotten this far.

Maybe I misworded that and instead should've said let rather than make, and again what I mean is yes I approve her message and respect and agree with what she said 100% but I am also worried about her mental and emotional health, and when I said use I meant as a face of a cause, for the stated reasons.

That modification does a lot for me.

Have you read what she’s said about her life and depression, though? She was doing far worse and was by and large mute because she was so despondent about climate change. She’s doing far better since she started taking what action she could. I find it a bit presumptuous for people to insist they know how all this affects her and what would be best for her.

Thank God we got rid of those nuclear reactors eh? Those zero emission sources of power. Thank goodness we all fought against them. Better pumping endless shite into the atmosphere than organising the storage of some quite warm tubes for a while.

That's true, I don't know enough about her background and I definitely didn't know that she was more depressed, but maybe, just maybe, her parents exposed her to too much grief at a too young an age? We all realize how bad the world is at some point in our life but as we get older we are more prepared to deal with it emotionally.

Finally someone has the balls to say this. I fully agree with you mate, she's a little selfish cow. All she does is cry and shout to do something but she hasn't got the intellectual capacity to suggest anything workable.

She reminds me of a young teenage girl who lives in the estate just behind my restaurant. Her mother is a heroin and crack cocaine addict who is out all hours of the day trying to raise funds by stealing or selling herself for her habit. The girl is constantly in front of the corner shop crying and screaming at her mother to do something anything to stop. The little selfish cow doesn't give her any workable solutions though just says to stop. How would her mother come down from the crack high without heroin or come up from the heroin down without crack? How would her mother fund her habit if she just gave up the prostitution??? The girl has no idea about life nor how hard it is to make changes without a concrete plan or ideas in place.

She's telling them to shift their obsession with economic growth and national wealth and focus on what's most important at this current time. That's a workable solution that needs screaming into a lot of politican's faces that have the most power and control at the moment. It's pure frustration and passion coming out of her, it's sad that people are using that against her and ignoring the context.

I'm not saying capitalism is bad, I worship the results of it obviously. I'm saying that certain powerful politicians and companies give it a bad reputation.

Again though the population demands growth because they're demanding greater funding for public services.

I'm 100% on board with reducing public spending substantially and moving away from a focus on growth, but I'm not sure you'll get public support for freezing NHS funding indefinitely and limiting the birth rate (in particularly African countries).

Whatever solutions as a country and planet we decide will solve this issue, it will have to have public consent. I haven't heard any solutions from Green fanatics that address this.
