Could they void the PL due to the Coronavirus? | No | Resuming June 17th

I don't want the season voided. I want to us to be in the Champions League. Feck Liverpool.

Just an absolutely random thought, but do you reckon they'll propose a couple of friendly matches for each team before the season resumes?

It's a good point though. They can't just restart a season with players who haven't played.

Another factor in the argument as to why they will void this season. Just not practicable.

Plus you'd presumably have to have some sort of closed season / pre season before any new season.

I dare say it'll all be super obvious in a couple of months that all the talk of resuming is pure fancy.

It's a fantasy. Squads aren't even training together at the moment. They'd need a good month to get back training at anywhere near match fit and that's even if no one within the squad is unwell.

At this point the season needs to be cancelled and go into pre season mode resuming training and normal prep for next season when able.

The players are looking at a lengthy period of no games, they'll need games under their belt before the season starts. Not even Liverpool will want to jump right back in if the season was resumed (it won't be) because who knows what all that time off will do, they could fudge the title in that position. So yeah whenever the new football season does start, there'll be a pre-season of some sort.

@Sandikan - after Rick Party’s statement today and considering his previous link to Liverpool does he qualify as part of the Scouse Media Mafia?

Liverpool would play 9 games in days 9 days to get this season finished.

Hopefully this is correct and we’ll stop hearing the endless bleating of their selfish, self pitying fans, players and media influences, which is particularly sick considering the other things going on at the moment.

Draw a line and move on
Yeah, they've really shown what their about with their selfishness on this one. I said a week ago to null it for banter now I genuinely want them to be deprived. To be honest all the luck and dodgy decisions they got to create the gap at the top pulled them so far in front anyway. Was never a fair title race.

Close to the running of it i'd say!

ps don't make him sound cooler than he is, by getting his name wrong

Why wouldn't they test all those involved before holding matches behind closed doors given what we know now? This seems obvious. The reason why we are supposed to avoid contact with other people is because of the lack of testing for the general populace means we don't know who is a carrier.

You have to ask yourself if finishing a football season is worth the resources and manpower it would take to perform such widespread testing? It just seems like an unnecessary headache.

Could you imagine the idea of testing some footballers so they can go and do a quick closed doors game, while the whole country is battling all sorts of ruin?
Amazing.

The country has to get somewhere back to normal before leisure sh!t is even given a thought!

Yeah, a few more chances to start the virus again can't hurt surely?

Well one would think that if the season was going to resume then the virus would have abated enough wouldn't it? But nothing like a bit of snark in these times eh?

Well not really no, since if we are led to believe that it will be a race against time to get the season done as soon as possible? Adding more matches into that when we are already behind seems absurd to me. In a normal scenario it would be ideal yes, but in these times, I don't think it would happen.

Getting very worried. Dont really who cares who wins it now. Would not even care if liverpool won it for the next five years.

Than
you do know they are facing a race against time to play, right

Fair enough, but will just seem odd going straight back into it after a long while out that's all!

I understand Liverpool fans saying this as they seem to only care about being given the PL League.
The above would be very detrimental to many lower teams who would not survive and i cannot understand this 'finish the leagues at all cost' being preached especially by Liverpool and their fans.

Can they understand that this virus is real, dangerous and much more important to stop than anyone winning the league?!

Play the games behind closed doors just to satisfy some teams? Of course not.

We can already see many players being contaminated so is that fair on the teams who can't use their full squads? Of course not.
Is that fair on the supporters of ALL teams? Of course not.

Declare the Season Null and Void for all football.

That's all very nice and I agree with your sentiment even if I don't agree with your real selfish intentions behind that sentiment. Your intentions are as selfish mine if I may qualify.

In the real world, money talks. The PL, along with Uefa and FIFA, will do what's right. Financially. And before we get on our high horses, we individually pay them through our noses for that privilege.

 I genuinely didn’t notice that. Yeah he is the opposite of cool.
So who would you say is the Godfather of the Scouse Media Mafia? Hansen was probably the founder and would have a strong case despite his retirement - he could still be pulling the strings from behind the scenes. Souness must be in the running purely on his tough reputation. Thommo’s passion and complete bias make a strong case even with the nose. I see the newer generation of Carra, Murphy etc as soldiers trying to become made men.

It’s a shame you guys don’t have an equivalent just yet - Manc Media Mafia sounds great and really should be trademarked.

This is based on the assumption they are actually able to to do that though (finish the season).

I'm sure everyone wants it to finish but there's a massive difference between what people want and what is actually possible.

Bill Ackman saying we should shut down the whole world for thirty days. Everyone just goes home. Shops remain open, Pharmacies and also fast food outlets. Everyone else goes home. I agree. Makes the point that unless we do this, it will just come back.

I only noticed it, cos another well known Scouse sympathiser, ALAN Parry, posts on the Wycombe fan forum, and someone spoofed him with "ALAN PARTY" as a username.
He's actually a good guy is Alan. But a lot of the users abuse him just because it's him. He's remarkably patient with the fools. He did years back moan about the faceless anon names, but he was an older guy embracing a then new format, so you can understand him not realising that's how it's done!!

Scouse mafia is made up 2 fold. Media, and ex players. Now, these two elements obviously cross over at times.

They aren't always easy to spot, as there's certain media who purport to support other teams, but truly have a Scouse bias.
There's a Mirror guy who "claims" Stockport support but is as Scouse sympathiser as it gets.

I forget the name, but he's the one who ludicrously tried to claim fans were "weaponisng" this virus as a means to show their bitterness to Liverpool.

The ex players are all coming out in droves now as well. Trying to apply media pressure to the decision making.
Ignoring that there's absolutely no decision possible for the foreseeable anyway!

I remember Alan Parry from listening to games on the radio in the late 70s / early 80s. Very old school and definitely one of life’s good guys.
I think the Mirror guy is David Maddock - he is definitely a Liverpool fan. I saw that comment and even if he felt that I’m not sure it was a wise thing for a high profile journo to say publicly. No matter what happens with the league when all this ends I really hope covid19 doesn’t get sung about by any sets of fans.

Liverpool are definitely disproportionately over-represented in the media but I would blame the media for that. I remember when we were winning loads in the 80s there was always a feeling that Utd were the media darlings and we weren’t getting enough recognition for our achievements. It’s sort of tipped the other way a bit in the prem era. But one thing LFC and MUFC fans have in common is a dislike of Tyler - both sets of fans are convinced he favours the other. A strong piece of evidence on that one in our favour is the fact that Gary Neville had to help clean Tylers pants after Martial’s debut goal.

Ah Maddock is a different guy, but like you say is a declared Liverpool fan.
I forget the other guy's name, I can see the face, sort of greying hair, probably 50s.

I've only ever emailed into one of these journos once, and again like a ridiculous old man, I can't remember the guy's name.

I picked him up on him suddenly sucking up to Collymore after he'd scored a hattrick after giving him dogs abuse for ages before.
That's the media though.

Tyler is a funny one. You're spot on in fans think he's anti them. But I remember Gary Lineker on his podcast saying he gets the same from fans who are adamant he hates their boys, even from Leicester fans.

Football needs dialling down a bit from the toxic I think. Social media has inflamed it. I hate all these memes, and "funnies" after team xx has lost one game, or conceded a goal etc.

We'll need confidence that covid 19 is under control in the next few weeks to allow BCD games to start. That doesn't mean players will be free of it, just that there will be a vaccine/cure already in circulation which raises positivity around Europe that it's no longer more deadly than the flu (as is the feeling at the moment).

Time for Liverpool fans that became crack lawyers in linguistics during the Suarez Saga to become pharmacy and distribution experts. :)

Come on, let's be 'aving ya, Avigan!

You have to ask yourself if finishing a football season is worth the resources and manpower it would take to perform such widespread testing? It just seems like an unnecessary headache.
1) The widespread testing for sports clubs (i.e. the NBA) is already happening in the US so it's not without precedent
2a) If you read the descriptions of Coronavirus testing it doesn't take that much manpower. It entails a swab and there are labs that can process thousands a day.
2b) The sad reality is regular people like you and I are not going to get tested unless we are extremely sick because our governments don't have the capabilities to do widespread testing
3) I wouldn't be in favor of resuming football BCL at the height of this pandemic and don't think the football authorities would either. This assumes best-case scenarios.
4) At some point, there will need to be widespread testing to continue football, with or without fans. I really don't see any other way.
