Could they void the PL due to the Coronavirus? | No | Resuming June 17th

You can argue that they need a mental break as well. Sitting at home all fidgety, waiting and wondering when will they finish the season won't really get them that.

Course there aren't any good options, and I guess they'll just have to suck it up next season. Though I would at least scrap the League Cup next year and leave the winter break in the schedule.

The irony of the winter break. Klopp whined constantly about his poor dears being mentally & physically tortured due to all the football they were playing without a break, so they finally bring one in. Liverpool seem to have the opposite effect getting knocked out of their cups & losing their unbeaten record. If they had carried on as normal might have actually already won the league. Serves the whinger right.

I don't see your point. Winter breaks are useful for the players. I don't get how Liverpool shitting the bed is relevant. They would've done it regardless, you can only win so many matches in a row before you hit a patch of bad form.

Or we might have lost more games and key players get injured. Taking a break can arguably affect momentum but there is no doubt it’s better for the players physically. When the PL and FA get it organised better (hopefully for a week or two longer) in the future teams and even fans will think “why the feck weren’t we doing this earlier”. It could even become Utd’s equivalent of the back pass rule.

Carabao and numerous broadcasters who've paid to show the games around the world would immediately sue the EFL. I'd say the chances of scrapping the League Cup are about the same as coronavirus suddenly vanishing tonight.

Henry Winter is a tit. No idea why he's held in such regard. Probably because he has a plummy voice and sounds like he's know what he's talking about when he hasn't a fecking clue.
He's the real life version of Tim nice but dim.

It is over , Premier League just putting it off for now, there is no way this season will continue.

Fecking clueless tool.

I need someone to explain the appeal of Michael Owen to me.

This guy has the charm of a genital wart, offers absolutely zero insight on football and nobody likes him. Why is he a pundit?

And Liverpool, he won a league with United and you make him a club ambassador. Why?

There's no way any club should be allowed to be the Premier League 2019-20-21 champions. It's ridiculous.

Void the season for the good of humanity.

And also because of the coronavirus crisis.

I think, like Chris Sutton for example, it's cos people react to what they say and that gets viewers. There is plenty of times he's said stuff on BT and it goes viral within a few minutes.

The FA needs to stop putting arbitrary dates on its return. It’s leading to people being blasè about the situation. They should either shut up until they 100% have a date that they 100% know they can stick to or void it

Taking the massive measure of closing schools, but yeah some blokes kicking a ball around will be back at the end of April.

No idea what the situation in the PL is but in the Bundesliga actually about a third of all teams in the first and second division might have to declare bankruptcy if the season isn't finished, and they lose the TV-Deal money. Without the that money I'm not even sure we would end the season without sinking into crippling levels of debt. It's all good not wanting Liverpool to win the league, but we have to be careful this doesn't backfire.

It's not a choice is it? No one is choosing for the season to be over, its the last thing anyone wants, but this whole football business is so tiny and insignificant when we're talking about so many people dying.

I had to click on that Micheal Owen tweet to make sure it was real, and then to see whether it was still up. It's both.

Wow

I hope there will be plenty of support from top 10% of professional footballers through donation. Any money to the economy, and relevant authorities will help.

Well the Bundesliga plans to finish the season without visitors, which is at least something that will keep a lot of the clubs afloat. Of course there is still a risk with a group of 22 players on the pitch and in the dressing room but it's probably on a level that is manageable for most clubs. I could see the PL opt for something similar if the survival of some clubs is at stake.

You are right but nothing that involves billions of pounds is insignificant, we’ve gone through two world wars and football has been a constant before and after.

I was wondering whether or not to post something, but that Owen tweet did it for me.

I’m in the thick of it here, have been for some weeks. We’re losing about 400 a day nationwide. My neighbour just lost his grandfather, my colleague lost her grandfather too, and now her mum’s been put in hospital. These people are dying alone. Without comfort. And the people they are leaving behind are unable to say goodbye. My kids haven’t stepped out of the house for 6 weeks and they are suffering too. We don’t know if we’ll still have jobs when this is finally over, but honestly our careers don’t feel so important anymore.

I know this is a football forum, but I think it’s context worth considering for both United and Liverpool supporters.

Football is getting more and more irrelevant. The arguments that were going on between Inter and Juve fans are just not heard anymore, no one cares. We are too busy consoling each other.

We can work backwards from a fairly clear schedule.

1. Leagues need to have a summer break, for international competition and because its just too bloody hot in some countries. All leagues also need to be aligned on a similar schedule for European club competition to work. That means all new leagues need to start by the end of September.

2. Players need a summer break of 1 month to recover. They then need another month of pre-season preparation. Kicking off a league without rest or preparation will lead to injuries and all sorts of mess. Maybe this could be condensed, but not by much.

3. To get that 2 months, across Europe all leagues must be finished or scrubbed by the end of July.

4. With 10 games left and no European games to worry about, we need at least 5 weeks to finish the PL.

5. PL must be restarted by the middle of June or it can't finish.
After that long off they’d need a preseason too.

Borris said we will turn the tide after 12 weeks. This time line by the Premier league is ridiculous

Yep, and it's basically what I'm saying a couple of posts above. It's not the actual vaccine but the promise of the vaccine that restores natural order. The economy needs it, pronto.

The promise of the vaccine will be enough for Liverpool to get the PL League after 30 years and that's all they're interested in.
The promise not the actual which will prevent Covid. :wenger:

A Dutch radio presenter has suggested that Europe’s radio stations should all play “You’ll Never Walk Alone” at 8.45am CET tomorrow to show solidarity in the fight against covid-19.

So far, many radio stations in The Netherlands (NPO Radio 1, NPO Radio 2, NPO 3FM, NPO Radio 4, NPO Radio 5, 100%NL, Radio 10, Veronica and others), along with BBC Radio One and BBC Radio 2 in the UK along stations in Luxembourg (Radio 100,7), Germany (WDR 4, SWR3, RBB), Austria (ORF Austria, OE3), Belgium (Stubru, Radio 1, Radio 2, Joe, Willy, Q-music, Klara, Nostalgie, NRJ, MNM), Estonia(Radio 2), Bulgaria (Bulgarian National Radio), Finland (Yle Vega, Yle X3M),Latvia (Latvijas Radio), Slovakia (Radio and Television Slovakia), Romania (Radio Romania) and Spain (Radio Nacional de España) have all said they will support the initiative.

This is not Solidarity in the fight against covid - it's pure and blatant 'Let's push more for Liverpool to be handed the PL League' - disgusting!

Well. Well. Well.

So the FA have came to the same logical conclusion that I have. The only option in regards to resolving this season is to finish it at some point.

Any of the fans on here who've been saying otherwise for the past week care to say anything now?

This applies to the football league as well, so its not just aimed at helping Liverpool win the title. Its the only logical option.

I genuinely can't believe the bitterness and small time behavior on here over the past week or so. I've grown up watching brilliant United teams win the treble in 99, and an incredible team in 08/09. These teams were built by an excellent manager and a combination of youth team players and great signings mixed together to form a world class outfit, all done without billions of oil money, and yet here we are with United fans desperately hoping that the league is voided to deny a team built in the same way as yours were a deserved title. Come on United fans, don't lower yourselves to Everton/City type bitterness.

He isn't well liked by the majority of Liverpool fans! There was a feeling he put England over Liverpool, plus the way he left and then joining United makes him not well thought of by most fans.

If everything goes to plan and people do as they're told. Which they won't.

The lead scientist just said there is a mountain of evidence to suggest people are taking advice at the moment.

you can't honestly expect your rivals to not piss themselves after a thirty year wait and just two games to go you lost the league to man-flu
