Anyone who thinks we have just been given the go ahead to start playing football on 1st June really needs to give their head a wobble.
And wasn't the UEFA cut-off date for submissions of plans 25th May anyway? Makes that kind of awkward to comply with...

You could read that in two ways, either stadia can be used without crowds, or stadia can't actually be used at all which means they'd end up playing at training grounds or something.

Then we'd have to play about 3 matches before the players are match fit. Not to mention this all requires everything going well with the virus.
The only option that should be on the table is scrapping the season and how best to manage the fallout from that.

I'd like to note though that I don't wish the league to start at all at the moment until it's generally safe, not just football safe.
The chances of getting last season finished before the next one starts keep getting smaller.

I certainly don’t read into it that football should be restarted ASAP - from what I see they are stating that there is no preferential treatment for pro sports, which is 100% right.
you can’t play before 1 June, it in no way means we will be playing football at that date.
And everyone who thought the Bundesliga would continue in mid-May was a 'mug'.

I don’t understand the fascination with looking at what other countries do - the situations are totally different. I’ve never commented on the Bundasliga. When it restarts, or whether it’s cancelled has no bearing on what happens in the UK.
Well premier league plan remains June 12th so this gives them permission to start around that time (bar seemingly trivial things like infection rate increasing again).
I haven't checked yet but read last night that teams would be allowed this week to step up training (given half of the teams were back last week) so fits in with the Italy and Spain timelines that are also looking to restart in June.
Still don't see all clubs agreeing to the neutral venue plan so that could still easily stop the resumption.
The discussion on here was very much the same. Now we'll have the same again with a few weeks' delay. I don't know when exactly the Premier League continues but it's very naive at this point (and the Bundesliga continuing, as well as La Liga and Serie A preparing to the same does matter) to assume that it won't. Everything that's happening behind the scenes makes this pretty clear, just as it did in Germany.
Can they just anoint Liverpool champions so we don't have to deal with this farce?

what I’m saying is taking a lead from one country where the situation is completely different is pointless, and what’s happening in Germany or France doesn’t affect whet we will do.
mite very clear each country will make a decision based on its own circumstances, hence why there are a variety of different ways in which leagues are restarting, in limbo or finished already.

There are also clubs (perhaps not in the PL but I’m not sure) who have had to furlough their playing staff as well as non playing staff, so they’re going to need very certain dates set for games to be restarting so they can work backwards and not incur the cost of bringing staff back too early, or bringing them back to then find things get postponed again because they’ve realised it’s too early.

What's the benefits of playing the games at neutral grounds?
I guess it reduce travel. Maybe they could all stay locally in training too.
They've supposedly picked the grounds with least housing near them. The most isolated grounds.
How would it reduce travel? The league is still a national league, so wherever you play Newcastle v Southampton there's still loads of travel involved.
they've had 2 months off, they may have been training at home but I doubt they'll be ready to just jump back into Premier League football. Don't be surprised when football is a slow slugfest for about 3 weeks.
That's interesting. I can't think of many Prem ground that currently applies to. Particularly in London.
Southampton? Chelsea (at a push!!).
Certainly doesn't apply to Stamford Bridge, there's nothing but buildings for miles either side of the exits.

I can't see the season being played.
I think they have 3 options.
1. Null and void. Probably the easiest and the fairest. Take Liverpool winning the league out of the equation, the rest of it all is too messy to try and sort out.
2. Finish the league in current position and award promotion/relegation/european football that way.
3. Finish the league in current standings with no winners/relegation and european football is awarded.

I can't recall the exact list, but West Ham's was on there. I've only been there once, for the Anniversary games, and can't really recall the area around there, but presumably less packed in residential than the others. Certainly like Arsenal that literally have lines of houses right outside.
Brighton was on there, that's remote.
No Liverpool, United, Everton, Arsenal, Tottenham for pretty clear stacked residential areas nearby reasons.
So I guess it's a bit of a guess from those remaining!
I thought you were implying that a pre-season is needed before going into the next season, not before resuming this one.
Not if they move training closer to the stadiums. Not sure that is what will happen though.
They probably do need a pre-season, but where are they going to get that? Who are they going to play in this pre-season?

I mean, if you have been playing football for a couple of months, with a 14 day break for example, before the new season - I don’t see why they’d need a pre-season. Usually, these teams have been off for a couple of months so they need a pre-season before the new one, but I don’t think they’d need one before next season anymore. Unless this one is scrapped.
You are right though that even if there is any form of pre-season, it will operate differently as you will struggle to get anyone to play. Only suggestion would be to play domestic teams, perhaps from lower leagues. You wouldn’t have time for more than 2 or 3 games at most though.
