Cristiano Ronaldo - performances 2017/18

Ronaldo is trying to evolve into a striker position, sprinting less and conserving energy. He is having issues with it and hence is deservedly getting criticised, but to say he is finished is blowing it a bit as this is CR7. He dragged it back from 4 - 1 to 5 - 5 and made people eat their words, I think the same is going to happen this time around as well.
More like he was dragged back into 5-5 (in 2 instances at minimum).

Best in the world, apparently

5 shots (84 thru 17 games)
5 dispossessions, one of which led directly to Wass' chip for the opening goal
2 take-ons failed
1 chance created
1 take-on completed
0 goals
0 assists

He’ll peak for 3-4 matches in the UCL and bag another Balon d’Or, unless someone else pops up to really dominate & win the WC.

He’s found the winning strategy.

It’s honestly so sad seeing all these desperate Barca fan boys/CR7 haters pounce at any given chance while they can

Watching him yesterday heavily reminded me of Rooney of those past 2 years. Something is wrong with him.

The man has pushed his body to the limits for over a decade. The Messi fanboys are really pulling at any string they can. First theyll tell you its not about the individual awards, you mention Euro and UCL B2B, then its "waa waa Real UCL waaa waa, Messi was 2nd at the world cup." All this is very tired.

What are you even talking about

he is old
Yep :(

That's all there is to it. Aside from 2 months, he's been underwhelming for 2 seasons now. Even in 15/16 the signs were already there. He still came up big against Gremio, but you have to wonder how much better we could be with a better striker.*

We're not playing particularly well this season, but part of that is because he's not playing well either. His movement got worse, he looks like a foreign object on the team these days

*worst of all, his presence is the entire reason we still stick with fecking Benzema

PS: all of this might well just be a matter of his ongoing trial for tax evasion+contract issues with the club. But while that might certainly play its part, he's been in evident, clear decline for years now

Honestly I would be shocked if they beat PSG. For me, PSG are the best team in the world right now. I don't see a weakness in their team. Even guys who aren't 'household names' like Rabiot are absolutely tremendous footballers.
When they play without Motta, with Rabiot-Verratti-Draxler in the midfield, like their last game against Bayern, they are not so competitive despite the power in the attack. They would need to sign another top DM to fight for the CL imo.

33 year old Zlatan was better than this version of Ronaldo.
Hell last seasons Zlatan as well.

Can't see this happening. Surely not.

Ronaldo could 'leave Real Madrid this month'
Ronaldo could be on his way out of Madrid and back to the Premier League but not to United.

According to reports in Spanish outlet Don Balon Ronaldo is determined to leave Real Madrid this month and join Chelseas.

They claim Chelsea are keen on bringing United’s former No 7 to Stamford Bridge and could use Hazard as bait to land the Portuguese international.

He is starting to look like Van Persie did for us in his last season. Anything outside the box and he finds it difficult to do. He takes too many touches.

Do you have any idea how childish it sounds when you randomly start ranting about rubbish like "fan boys" and "haters"?

Time catches up with everyone. He's about to turn 33. I don't think it's anything more than that. As others have said, and I agree, there have been evident signs of a slow decline over the last couple of years. He's put a helluva lot of mileage on the clock over his career.

His poor form this season is probably down to a number of factors

The most obvious is Real Madrid are not the same team they were last season and playing no where as good

Family problems, tax problems all take their toll on a player as well who knows what he is having to deal with off the pitch

His body has a lot of mileage as well and at 32 it could be taking it's toll on him

However he may just find his shooting boots again and knock PSG out of the CL and everything may go back to normal for him

The PSG game seems to be what can make or break his and Real's season

Randomly? And what do you care how others sound? If you dont have a decent response, please dont respond.

I feel you. Absolutely hate when they go with the "waa waa Real UCL waaa waa" argument.

So does this mean I have a very short window now to catch Messi in the Camp Nou - or is his game so different that he should age better?

*plans a home Barcelona this season*

*Messi inevitably injured*

TBF he's always missed a lot of chances, he's just also had much more opportunities to score in past seasons.
He's always missed his fair share but also scored his fare share. Now he's missing without scoring almost at all. They haven't been playing all that much better in the CL than in La Liga just so happens in the former despite missing a lot as usual, he's still scoring and putting up big numbers. He's almost single handedly cost his side the league this season. As a team defensively they've been nowhere to be seen. The likes of Marcelo are having a mare this season while their starting right back just isn't starting as many games due to injuries but in attack, my god they do waste chances.

What I find amazing about him is that even after so many years at the top level, he can't seem to develop great passing and playmaking skills, his playmaking at United and early Real days was based on pure athleticism and flair, once that's gone and the goals stop coming in, he can't learn how to play deeper and pass balls all over the park like Giggs learned to do. If Ronaldo was truly the greatest player in history like he says, he would be a passing master... I just can't understand how he is so bad at passing the ball when under pressure, Messi always manages to open up a small space which enables him to make a long pass or a through ball even with one defender's relentless pressure on him...

Seen him about 5 times this season in La Liga. Every time he looks like he has lost his timing and defintely his work rate has gone even lower than previous seasons. You can never write him off, however I think he will struggle to be anywhere near as consistent as previous seasons. His problem is if he is not scoring goals then he is not contributing much to the team.

He old. Also Real is out of form which affects him since he’s reliant on supply.

The guy is after all soon 33, so it's hardly a surprise he can look a bit leggy sometimes. That said, I'm pretty confident he'll make the critics eat their words once again though.

I agree. That's because the journalists made us believe during so many years he was an incredible player, when in fact he is an incredible goalscorer, stop. I remember the countless articles comparing the two and putting CR7 with the same technical ability as Messi. Ridiculous. I recognize that Ronaldo was a constant threat on goal, probably the best striker I have seen, but everyone made him to be someone who never was. I don't think he is even a top 5 technical player in his own team. Marcelo, Modric, Kroos, isco, asensio and benzema have a better touch than CR7.

He has been shocking really in La Liga this season. If he's not doing the business in UCL knockouts it's fair to say he is past it.

33 in less than a month.
Looks it. Even beginning to wrinkle.

Absent, his virtue was pace and he lost it, move on.

As with R.Federer, wouldn't write him off just yet.

Indeed. Real Madrid have been shite this season yet no one is calling out Modric, Kroos (who looks like he couldn't give a shit) and Ramos.

Also the ''loss of pace'' comments are flying around. He's still very fast.

His loss of form seems to be a number of factors in or around Real Madrid. He's still a great player and has at least 2-3 years left of top goal scoring. He'd tear it apart at PSG.

Modric has been the better player in the team since he arrived.

He's getting outpaced by Juanfran...

anyways, outside of the box he is so subpar it's painful to watch. Take away his goals and he contributes almost nothing. Can barely beat a cone, his passing and his selection is average and he walks around. He's a liability atm. Time is undefeated.
