Cristiano Ronaldo - performances 2017/18

Yes, the way he hung in the air and literally planted a header to the 6 yard line for Vasquez was brilliant. Even if he is the smallest Juve defender on the park, he still had to do it in the final minute to create the opportunity and he did. Even Gerrard and Owen were waxing lyrical about it after the game.

Were they as over exaggerative of the pass to ronaldo? It was such an easy knockdown and shocking defending all round.

As far as I remember they were, that it was a great pick out by Kroos and Ronaldo made it better by completing the move. He made it look easy, and I think he deserves credit for it.

It looked easy because it was. That same play happens almost every game where someone’s chasing a goal in injury time. Ball to the back post, isolate your best header of the ball against a smaller full back and head it back across goal. Dejan Lovren could have done what ronaldo did. The moment was exhilarating, but the play was so simple. It was atrocious defending.

Agree to disagree then. Yes it was poor defending but I thought it was great play by Ronaldo.

Exactly.
Ronaldo missed the target 2 minutes earlier doing the exact same thing at the other side of the goal.
He came alive when the pressure was at its greatest.

If he wins the CL this season it'll be his 5th. He'll equal the number of CLs won than Bayern, Barca and Liverpool and 2 more than us and Inter. Absolutely ridiculous.

That's one of the reasons I thought it was great too. He missed an opportunity at the back post just before that then on his next chance he sets up the penalty. He kept calm and didn't lose his cool, which is why I thought it was great.

I guess I can’t make the distinction between great and expected.

Lol fair enough if you think it was nothing great and the minimum he should have done. I thought it was great due to other things other than the fact it was a knockdown, see above.

It's an easy knockdown for someone that can jump that high. It's not an easy knockdown for anyone else.

While the Ronaldo jump was quite obnoxious, the Juve defender should've done more. The same with Carvajal for Juve's 2nd goal.

Messi would tremble in his boots.

Look at that calmness and trust in his abilities ...completely unphased.

Un-fecking-real.

Liverpool haven't won the CL fives times. They've won the European cup...which is a completely different beast.

It makes it so much sweater that he put that in with how Juve acted messing up the ground. You can see the influence of Fergie on him there. No nonsense, doesn't care about the Buffon incident, doesn't get emotional. He knows there's a task in hand and he does it.

100% focused

I adore Ronaldo fully in that video. He remained calm and focused. Very admirable. Didn't let Juve's antics get to him.

That Messi comment of yours is so small-time though.

Also, that video of comparing Messi/Ronaldo reactions is so misleading. Catches 2-3 second segments of Messi looking down, but 10 long seconds of Ronaldo.

I'm all for Ronaldo appreciating but there's no need to try and shit on Messi in this thread. It's what sparks needless debates.

Average over these two games plus the home game vs Juve. Worked hard, missed crucial chances. That's about it. Certainly not been 'clutch' in these performances and he could have rued his miss badly if Bayern did what they should have done and scored a third (and fourth).

Funny how things could still go while Real looked huge favorites after the first leg vs Juve and Ronaldo looked 100% the next Balon d'Or winner after Messi exit. Now IF he loses the final (which is very possible with this Real), Balon D'or is Salah's, unless either he or Messi play a huge world cup.

The only way that can be topped is if he pulls off his shirt after scoring his third and reveals the united badge underneath, and points to sir Alex in the crowd.
After winning the game, he can do the "5 times la" to Liverpool fans. :D

Think he did very well in the first game, were he got a goal wrongly disallowed, but Benzema has finally scored so we couldn't really lose after that. Now that we're through you can bet he's going to prepare to give his best at the final.

He should have got more chances than he did, so many missed passes that would put him 1 on 1 with the keeper throughout both games. In the first half Marcelo had a simple pullback when he had an open goal but the ball never got there either... he needs to bury that huge chance he had though, that was terrible and it was at a crucial point of the game.

Besides all of that it's very nice to see him put in some work defensively, Madrid fans will love that.

Hopefully he manages to get his scoring boots on for the final

I am a big fan of his clutch style, but he just didn't show up in 180 minutes.

Hummels and Sule are like the slowest two center backs you are ever gonna meet in a CL semifinal (you can't count Federico Fazio because he's a joke). He should have really impacted the game more and his miss was criminal at a crucial point of the match. I can understand him not going into dribbles against fast players because his dribbling style is not a good fit against those opponents, but I just wanted to see more today against this opponent without a defensive centre mid.

I will not criticise his defensive effort in this match, that was top notch.
