The renewal Cristiano Ronaldo continues to stall
The Portuguese star has decided to end his contract in 2015 and then leave Real Madrid. He views the praise of Florentino Perez only as an electoral weapon.
The Cristiano renewal remains a thorn in the side of Florentino Perez. Although in the last days the President has heaped praise on the Portuguese star ("is the best player in the world and I want to make him the best-paid, we want our project to revolve around him"), this has not changed his decision to enforce the contract (ending in 2015) and then leave Real Madrid.
So much is needed to continue efforts to further convince Cristiano who, incidentally, believes that the president has praised him more in a week than in four years at the club & is motivated solely by the electoral process.
It is well-known that Cristiano feels discomfort with the president, as was publicly clear on the official picture day this season, when the Portuguese affectionately greeted Di Stefano, but was very cold with Florentino. Hence, in recent weeks the president has stepped up discussions with Jorge Mendes, representative of the player, to try to mend fences & try to achieve an upgrade and contract extension. The intention is to continue until June 2018, three more years beyond the current agreement. However, Cristiano was always reluctant to be used as an electoral weapon and admitted to his friends that a hypothetical renewal with Madrid was still far away.
Another aspect missing, according to CR7, is protection against external attacks that cast doubt on his professionalism. And that still seems unresolved, as was seen last Sunday, after hinting Jose Mourinho, told Punto Pelota, that Cristiano was one of the players who would not play the last two games (against Real Sociedad and Osasuna) because he was feigning injury.
At that time, no one from the club came out to defend the professionalism and commitment of Cristiano or of other players in question, instead they praised the Portuguese coach. Florentino has taken the first step to convince Cristiano to renew, but is still a long way from achieving a "yes". In addition, the Portuguese called attention to the two signings that the club had in its portfolio: the Brazilian Neymar, who yesterday was presented by the club, and Gareth Bale, the Tottenham star.
Cristiano, who has been able to score 201 official goals for Madrid in just 199 games (more than one goal on average), was surprised and disappointed when he read in the media that Florentino was willing to invest 100 million euros to hire Neymar despite him being a player who has not debuted in Europe and whose potential is yet to be seen. That the club has not prioritized an equally dramatic investment in ensuring the continuity of Christian is what has puzzled the Portuguese. But with his current emphasis on the issue, Florentino could break the deadlock.
Anyway, the renewal of Cristiano is not something that is close, not at all. Bad news for a matter that has essential priority.
