Crystal Palace vs. Manchester United

It's an improvement, that's for sure. We look a lot more assured in possession and we're controlling the game. It really is killing our attacking options though having Smalling at right back. With Mata drifting so far inside we need a right back that is comfortable getting forward on the ball and it's simply not Smalling's game, it's making us a lot easier to defend against. I don't know at what point you decide to bring Valencia on for him, as although i think we'd see an improvement, i'd be wary taking off one of our tallest players at set pieces; and Palace have looked their most dangerous down our right hand side.

Really hope we score early on to be honest, as i'm not sure who you'd take off if things still aren't going fantastic up top. Knowing Moyes, Valencia will come on eventually and we'll end up bringing Kagawa/Hernandez on for Fellaini and dropping Rooney deeper. That and Young on for Januzaj, cue the moaning.

Januzaj didn't handball it, Fellaini should have scored, etc....
So we've had two chances in 45 minutes ? That's a lot.

We probably could have been ahead but were not battering them or anything.

Yeah, cause he needs them.

We looked solid enough there in that 1st half which is an improvement on some recent outings. Unfortunately up front or in the final third the knives could do with a fair bit of sharpening, toothless enough in that department all the time.

The problem lies with the trio of RvP, Rooney and Mata. They are all 3 free roaming and often playing quite deep. I think we might have to sacrifice one of them and invest in a RW that can beat his man properly. But maybe with Rafael we can use the right side better. Good performance so far.

There is absolutely no urgency in our play. We have passed it well but you'd think we were 5 nil up with 2 minutes to play the way the players are going about this match. Pedestrian.
We are playing a team away in the PL and have totally dominated. We are wearing them down. Jesus. There are some bloody spoilt fans on here.

Not a bad half, I'd like to see more shots from outside the area but overall more variation to our forward play today which is better than the crossing game we endured a couple of weeks ago.

Jamie Redknapp choosing a clip of Fellaini turning and running with the ball, then making a creative pass to make the point that he doesn't do that.

I'm not bashing Fellaini, it's not his job to make up the tactics, he's following Daves tactics. It's just absurd tactics IMO. I'd prefer to have Rooney or Mata in the box than Fellaini. With Fellaini in the box it's forcing one of Mata and Rooney to cover his position, which is acceptable once in a while, but it's been constant throughout the half.

Still 0-0 at half time, we've been solid, Palace have played well. Ince looks good.

Why the hell would you want Mata in a packed box ahead of Fellaini?

Nah, read back. After Fellaini created a chance from nothing, received the ball back and missed that shot, a load of people were calling him to feck.

Yes, frustrated that he missed a chance you expect a man utd midfielder to hit the target with. Most people in the thread have been singing his praises since the 5th minute apart from that one moment in the match. He's had virtually no abuse apart from that.

I feel like that's more to do with a lack of confidence then anything. Nothing like the Fulham game who he as constant hoofing in the box. This we've actually been passing it around and trying to do quick plays and vary it up, palace have just been really organized and have defended well.

Calm down sweetheart. We are dominating nothing but passing the ball around. I'm not moaning I'm pointing out the obvious.

Some of the reactions in here are way OTT.

We may not be at our fluid best but we look better than we have done and we're playing against a 9 man defence. More of the same and a goal or two will come.

Decent-ish first half. Carrick looking poor on the creative front, however we have 4 very capable forwards who should produce more than just standing around waiting for the ball at their feet.

Fellaini and Smalling two best players of that half for me.

Rio's had a very good first half. Had me worried a bit when he was going forward but Palace didn't seem interested in going for the counter.

Rooney's chip could have been.. We should be a few goals up. And as soon as 1 went in, others might have followed.

Strange half. Has the feel of the Fulham match to me. We're dominating without really looking like scoring, but every time the ball is in our box it's panic stations.

Need a few clean sheets just to get defensive confidence back.

I could see CP scoring here today though, and I can't really see us getting more than 1. Just the way things are going this season, and Palace are in excellent form.

Its so easy for teams to play against United nowadays, just mark everyone tightly except Smalling.

We are dominating possession and have created enough chances to be 1 or 2 up away from home. By the way city were at home today and bloody struggled against Stoke. That's the PL.
