UEFA Champions League
Luzhniki Stadium
KO: 1730 BST

Don't the the games in Moscow usually kick off a couple of hours earlier than the usual time?

It's at 17:30

Player to watch out for is Milos Krasic. Very dangerous winger on his day and scored a fine solo goal against Besiktas in the previous group game.

The other huge factor - and it will be absolutely huge, is that CSKA Moscow play their home games on a plastic surface. Even the home team players were slipping over and getting their feet caught in it against Besiktas, and those are the players who should be used to playing on it. So expect our players to spend a fair bit of time on their asses and we could pick up injuries too. It will make the game a lot tougher.

Thankfully Akinfeev will be in goal, so get some crosses into the box and we should be golden.

Can't wait until this one's out of the way. We should have too much quality for them though.

Yes, as Ekeke said, Krasic will be a huge threat down CSKA's right side. We'll also have to watch the runs of Dzagoev who seems like a Kaka or Lampard player to me.

I thought Vagner Love was sent back to Brazil on loan because of disciplinary reasons (he has history of being a trouble maker) but just read that it's family problems. He's a big miss for them - their best striker of recent times.

Looks like Guilherme has started well in Love's place, though.

From what I can tell, CSKA are third in the Russian League behind Rubin Kazan and Spartak Moscow.

It'll be a very open game IMHO. They are decent going forward but I remember them being slow and clumsy at the back. Akinfeev is overrated and still has a lot to develop before he can play for a top European side.

Our probable lineup? Hopefully Vidic and Evra will have recovered from their respective knocks. I think Fergie said Rooney is unlikely to make it. If he and Fletcher are struggling, perhaps it's best they are rested for the Liverpool game as they are two of our three most important players this season in my view (Giggs being the other).

Van Der Sar
O'Shea
Evra
Ferdinand
Vidic
Nani
Park
Scholes
Carrick
Owen
Berbatov

Dzagoev is a great shout too. A young player who has proven he can strike a ball.

For anyone who would like to see the goals from their previous champions league match. Dzagoev with the first and Krasic with the second.

van der Sar

O'Shea
Ferdinand
Vidic
Evra

Valencia
Carrick
Fletcher
Nani

Rooney
Berbatov

SUBS: Kuszczak, Brown, Evans, Anderson, Scholes, Giggs, Owen.

Of course, all injury permitting. If we can't have Rooney and Fletcher, then Owen and Scholes.

Meh, CSKA Moscow aren't what they used to be. Dzagoyev is their danger player, and Krasic is not bad, yeah. Guillherme can be dangerous if he decides to turn up; really blows hot and cold, that one. Akinfeev, and their (IMO) best center-back, Ignashevich, have not exactly been in top form this year (both looking for transfers, I think), and CSKA will need them to be in top shape against us.

This match will be fairly pointless anyway, as we've already almost qualified. I'd rest the big guns for next weekend if I were SAF, and play for a draw.

What idiot decided football was allowed to played on plastic pitches? It should be grass or nothing, it's absurd.

Krasic is on fire right now for CSKA and Serbia NT. If he plays well then he could give Evra serious problems. However the last time they played which was last month he never gave Evra that much trouble. I put this down to the midfield not servicing him enough. If you cut of the passing to him then he can dissapear, but he is quick and direct and can shoot too. Will be a great contest.

There should be even more people who can give detailed accounts, given all the experts on Akinfeev's abilities in the transfer forum.

 shot at me?

I can give a very detailed account on CSKAM if you'd like a scouting report?

Dont give a shite about CSKA, so you guys can take your bitching somewhere else.

It's because you cnuts in the south own the sun and don't share it with us northeners(not talking about Newcastle here!!) equally

Oh and Alan Zhagoyev is a player to watch here.. He spends his freetime playing Football Manager and doesn't party that much and sounds very smart in every interview I for one have seen..

I think we should keep the Owen - Berba partnership alive and give Rooney some time to rest with Liverpool.. I'm not saying we should play our no.2 squad but that some players(Evra, Rooney) have played A LOT in the past month and need some time on the bench/home...

Back the the scene of the 2008 CL Final triumph!

Giggs and Evra out by the look of it. Wayne unlikely to be risked.

Draw.

Maybe you should take up ice hockey? :wenger:

Anyway, Moscow is as far south as London...:geek:

i would play a second string here i think - bearing in mind we have a long long trip, a few niggling injuries and we have a revenge mission at anfield next week

Video of Milos Krasic.

looks excellent, albeit on youtube

he is absolutely lightening, looks good in the air, some nice shooting, tackling and passing...

looks like he could do a job for us actually

Could have done, but we got Valencia instead. Hopefully its Valencia who has a good game instead of Krasic on Wednesday...

This game is obviously not our top priority with a trip to Anfield coming up. A draw at the Luzhniki would be a decent result, as we'd be well on course to finish top of our Champions League group.

CSKA are a decent side but probably not as good as they were a few years ago. Alan Dzagoev is a great prospect but if I'm honest I don't see him as too much of a threat. He tends to drift in and out of games and is really nothing more than a passenger while his team is defending. As has been already mentioned in this thread, Milos Krasic is definitely CSKA's danger man. Very quick and direct winger could pose some problems as we are without Evra.

I think we'll settle for a draw, maybe a 0-0.
I think we might see Brown and Park return for this one, and I think Foster might be given the nod.
Wouldn't be surprised to see us play a slightly conservative 4-5-1/4-3-3 and be content to try and nick a goal as we did in Istanbul.

Krasic is very gifted technically. On his day he can beat his man repeatedly, but the last time he played Evra against France he was terrible.

Dzagoev is a tad overrated from what I've seen of him. There's also an 18-year-old full-back meant to replace Zhirkov who has been extremely shaky last season. I don't remember his name and I don't know whether he is still in the starting 11, but that could be CSKA's weak link.

from the guardian

"Sir Alex Ferguson ... may leave Ryan Giggs, Wayne Rooney, Patrice Evra, Nemanja Vidic and Darren Fletcher behind when the team fly to Russia for Wednesday's Champions League tie against CSKA Moscow to ensure they are fit for Sunday."

He has improved a lot in the last two years.. He has been linked to Real Madrid, Milan and IIRC even United last season.

I predict this to be his last season in Russia, he was definitely noticed during the WCQ, as he was arguably Serbia's best performer.

obertan came off after an hour against clyde .. possible bench ?
or maybe welbeck/kiko
