They’ll probably be a step up in price more than anything knowing nvidia.
I'd love to move to a 40xx card as well but they're just so hopelessly expensive. The 4070ti seems the minimum viable card for RT Overdrive but that's already +-1000 euro over here. The 4090 I can't find below 1800 euro. Mental.
It is with dlss frame generation. Seen plenty of clips of 4090 rigs running the game with full RT OD at 4k with settings maxed out getting around 60-90fps with some dlss magic.
I was adamant on squeezing out whatever life I had left on my 2080 but Nvidia all but confirmed their 50xx range wouldn't be coming until 2025.
Next best thing until then would probably be the 4090 TI.
I‘m looking at that card myself right now. But still doesn‘t seem that intriguing with the vram amount (at that price point). Need to invest into nvidia shares to afford it probably.
Yes, not really a sexy market right now and very likely in the future. Not sure what route to go myself. Especially considering that I have less and less time for this sort of entertainment.

Yep, my 4070ti is running everything on max in the 90-100fps range at 1440p. I would expect a 4090 to hit higher res with similar performance.
Today's patch was pretty big. A few improvements I want to try in a bit.
*Made it possible to properly switch to Arm cyberware by cycling through weapons.
Finally this really messed up my hacking flow. When I'd be hacking a million things then want to switch to my monowire and can't just weapon cycle you had to go pick the monowire from the menu.

Fair. It's weird that the 40xx series is actually not much better than the 20xx series, and about on par with the 30xx, but on the other hand frame generation is a game changer.
I upgraded from my 3070 because my son wants an upgrade for his birthday and he has a 2060, there's not a lot out there better than even that for a decent amount. The actual quality in cards has stalled massively, it's the features Nvidia add that are driving progress right now. That's why AMD are even further left behind and the consoles launched miles behind. They really slept on RT.

Ok, I just remembered reading a piece about it and „true“ overdrive was more or less unplayable but with DLSS magic going on running well - I say that totally knowing that I‘ll settle for less and that‘s still plenty enough good looking for me. Tried (and kept) RT with my oldtimer card on Cyberpunk and it‘s just so tasty. Runs also well enough with some tweaking, funnily enough displaying the map runs worst with what feels like 15fps at times.
Not sure I'd agree, the 24gb vram is a fairly big deal, especially if you're into AI work - my 2080 was struggling with pretty complex stable diffusion tasks.
For 1080p/1044p you're spot on, and it's probably counterintuitive since your CPU will likely bottleneck you at those lower resolutions.
The 40xx series occupies a niche, but it is a sizeable upgrade for it.
Of course, talking about purely gaming the difference is mostly features but for other work the cards are decent.
That's a huge upgrade in terms of both for you, especially if you are gaming at 4k, but that's still DLSS 3.5 and Frame generation doing the heavy lifting for fps. The 20xx cards (especially super) are still the last proper range they've had. Not that I had an issue with the 3070 nor my 4070ti, but for the price the increase to games is extremely expensive just to have RT.

This is meant to be the best looking game on the market so you won’t be disappointed. Hell it looks great on PS5 I’m jealous of you hahaMuch to the wife's dismay I've decided to build a new 4090 rig. Can't believe I was swayed by a few ray tracing overdrive demos by Nvidia. Doesn't help that they exclusively use this game for their tech demos

The 4060TI was pretty widely panned and Nvidia didn't even send out review cards to avoid bad press. I'd definitely go for the 4070 out of those two personally. The extra memory is likely only to be an issue at 4K in the future I imagine.

The 12 gb will reach its limits sooner than later. Asking €800 and more for a 12gb chip in 2023 is a rip off, nothing else. My advice is to skip the 40XX series completely and only buy it if you either don't care about money, meaning 4080/90 with 16/24 gb or absolutely have to. The 40XX series received the most negative reviews in a long time and the experience shows, the next series should be definitely an improvement. Or even better, AMD hopefully catches up with Nvidia for the next series, so they're forced to stop their rip off.

Agreed, although if true and the 50xx comes 2025 and Nvidia remains in their current market situation, it‘s not really a great outlook. That‘s why I thought the 4060TI could be a nice budget option. I use it only for gaming (and not a lot at that too) but being able to have some RT going on with some balancing/tweaking around to make it run smoothly would be a good thing.

Honestly, that's my feeling playing the game.
The DLSS 3.5 and Frame generation are the main reasons to upgrade. I wouldn't worry about the 12GB stuff, people well overthink and overhype the video memory. Unless you plan on running at true 4K, which isn't achievable really anyway currently with RT and all that goodness. If you are playing at 1080 then you have no worries with the 4060 hitting everything high with RT, at 1440p you'll only have to tweak a bit. But 60fps at least on CP with most of the RT on is a given.
I also wouldn't hold out hope on AMD catching up within the next few years, FSR is still poor and no equivalent to FG or on chip RT support means they sadly won't be pushing Nvidia to actually do something decent for once and give a proper upgrade anytime soon.
Well if I pay the price of a new gen console or even more for a graphic card, I want to enjoy a better resolution than 1080p. And I don't want to have to look for a new card in 2 years, because the 12gb will be pretty sure at its limit with a high res by then. Many reviewer say this. The 4080 card would be okay if Nvidia would call and sell it as a 4070, the 4070 should be called 4060, the 4060 is a 4050 in price and specs. They basically scam the people by one tier with the 40XX series.

Yeah that's you though. He's asking for advice to go from a 2060 up, there really is no other option but a 40xx series. If someone has the money and wants to upgrade, there's literally nothing to gain from hoping that the 50xx series might be better and out soon, even less that AMD will magically catch up out of nowhere considering their cards are overpriced for what they offer too and they have no answer to Nvidia yet.
If I wanted to rant about the 40 series I would, I was never going to touch them but circumstances meant I could justify it as a stop gap. But let's not pretend that a 4070 with 12gb of ram isn't lasting well into the next gen, you people need to stop believing the bullshit around PCs and how long tech lasts. The new consoles will be AMD and will still be well behind the curve, and games will still be held back, a 4070 bought now will last a lot longer than "2 years" if you want it to.
Also I'm not going to get into the resolution debate, considering most people don't understand why that's a lesser consideration more than ever these days with things like DLSS and FSR. But not many PC gamers have 4K monitors nor rigs that can handle that without aid, and if they do they aren't worrying about cost of a GPU. And if you run a 4070 through a 4K tv, you are getting far superior to a PS5/X and will be easily comparable to the next bunch. That's what you are paying for.

But as I said earlier in the thread, the raw performance isn't the key with these cards it's the DLSS 3.5 and frame generation. That is what the upgrade is for really. If you can afford to stop gap you won't regret, but these cards will last well into the next generation easily anyway.

I keep playing it for an hour here and there but it always fails to hook me. Doesn't help that I cleared it 3 years ago and can't actually figure out what they're really improved with 2.0? Combat still is... ok? The story is still a mess. Night City is still really bland. NPCs still suck. I dunno.

Honestly if you feel that way about the base game then Phantom Liberty won’t be for you either. It’s more of the same but better. Watch Skill Ups review because that matches my thoughts exactly and as he says in his review, 2.0 just helps the things that were already great in the game to shine more brightly. If you didn’t enjoy those initial things, then the game isn’t really for you and phantom liberty wont really change that.
You wouldn't be buying any card apart from a 4090 for 4K gaming in 2 or 3 years on high settings though, and there's a time when you either have to turn down options or go down a resolution. That's not limited to the 40xx series and is led by when the console generations happen rather than anything else. It's not just the memory that will be an issue in a few years but the power of the GPU compared to the latest ones so memory is only one of the reasons why you have to do that.
It would be the reason to go from 4k to 1440p to get good performance in the future but that's inevitable regardless of memory.
Agreed that the 40xx series is really badly priced and Nvidia have obviously moved each chip one down the scale compared to the 30 series which is a joke. As @Redlambs has said though for better or worse, they've focused less on the core GPU this gen and more on the "helper" cores for ray tracing, frame generation etc.
I'm finding it better, but it still has the biggest issues it always did. Bland is right, there's just no life in the city nor the gameplay elements. Combat is mildly better but the A.I just ruins the fun, the driving it still just meh, there's still no point really in the food or crafting.
It's just all still so basic, despite having some very cool elements.
Well I should clarify I did enjoy the game at the time, solid 7/10 in my opinion, maybe it's just that I expected a bit more from 2.0 in the base game to make it fresh again. So I'm sure I'll enjoy PL.
Yep, as I said before no amount of patching can fix a half finished game.
My build is basically samurai netrunner,, rushing in and slicing and dicing while occasionally forcing the enemies to commit suicide.
Patch has improved it to the point I'm ready to give it another run through, albeit I've already had a couple of crashes, I just need a change of pace to break up BG3 now and then and this is perfect.
But my overarching feeling is I would like this game a lot more with Gwent, any form of it, CyberGwent. Give it to me.

Sounds nice. I‘m still searchig for a cool trenchcoat to go full tech-noir style. Only pistol and katana mostly, not really into hacking stuff but tampering the ai sounds like fun - although the encounters get too easy I guess and I just love to shoot em up.

Suicide needs a lot of ram anyway so I can only use it once, maybe twice, in a fight.
That’s what I did in my last playthrough. It’s a blast.
I’m enjoying it so far but I’m no further than I was on my pre-patch run so far so we will see how it lasts.
It does look incredible to be fair. What I found ironic is that I remember when I played it initially that scene early on with Dex in the car really stood out as looking good to me, and when I played last night I felt it looks far worse relative to how good everything else looked.
I’m still not sure I’m ready for these types of games again. Just like with Starfield, I find it hard to focus on all the small bits of text, menus and options etc. when it comes to looting and things. Maybe it’s my old age coming through.
