Looked pretty good potentially today. Looks pretty quick and his touch and awareness of team mates is brilliant. Fitted in really nicely and his one touch passing is really good too. Not seen much of his finishing but he creates space really good and looks skillfull. Dead cert to make it. Already looks better than Campbell and blake etc.

Playing at Old Trafford in front of over 50'000 people as a lone striker when you are just 17 (not 19 as incorrectly stated by the BBC) and looking quite impressive for about 60 minutes. Not much else I can add to be honest.

Very impressive performance. He'll get some Premiership games this season I think

Bulked up Campbell. He was working hard, held up play at times nicely and his movement was good. Shame he missed his chance to score though.

Reminds me a lot of Saha in the way he plays, but luckily is a couple of inches taller. When I saw him for England u19s, he had more than a hint of Berba about him as well. all in all very exiting.

And by the way, unless I'm very much mistaken he's actually 18.

Did very well. Showed glimpses of pace, aggression, skill and vision. Looks stronger every time I see him. He'll be an England u21 international come the end of the season.

He's 18 in late November

I have a programme sent over byu mate from the Middlesbrough match last year which stated he was sixteen then, so he must still be seventeen.
Remarkable to think he was in the Champions League squad although never selected, but still was thought of despite being seventeen and a bit - best bit about it is he is a Longsight lad so a proper local from the City of Manchester. I'm hoping to see him this season......

Really good to see him out there. I'm optimistic about this one. I guess I've only seen a couple of hours of him before tonight, but he seems to have that certain something that means he could make it. I hope so.

He looks very silky. As a striker he has pace, good movement, ball control and awareness of other around him. We didnt get to see much chances for him but I expect that he will get more opportunities in the future. He does look like a very good prospect who will get even better in time.

Impressive today, especially in the first half. His inexperience showed a couple of times, like when he missed those chances, but you expect that from a 17 year old making his competitive debut.

He´s a very talented player and I can´t wait to see more of him.

The posters who watch the reserves have posted for a while that he looked more like the real deal than Campbell. I guess that's one reason why SAF was happy to loan Campbell out and was apparantly willing to sell him too.

Welbeck is miles better than any other homegrown striker we've had coming through the ranks in years.

Best since Mark Hughes it would seem (unless you count Scholes who started as a striker)....

His movement and pace is marvellous. Very skillful player.

Bright future ahead.

had some good chances today, but he's clearly a very talented player and we should see more of him this season.

he is a great prospect. i hope we dont loose him. He has got great awareness, can hold up play when required, excellent first touch. i ma impressed by him.

hope he does fulfill his potential but I can't forget Sheasy's first season. Brilliant raiding at LB with "when Johnny goes marching......." ringing in his ears - shame he's become a bit ordinary.

sorry about the pessimism but it hasn't happened for a while now

he wasnt heavily involved in the second half because he played wide when ronaldo came off
he moved to the right and tevez went up with giggs in support

he did very well , tried to set up too many people
i'd have liked him to take a shot at goal too , everyone fired wide (nani , ronaldo , tevez , gibson) .. esp when we were 3-1 up at the end , he got the ball inside the box and turned back to pass it to someone else

good first touch, great awareness .. only 17

brucie will take him on loan in jan

Campbell and Welbeck are two different kinds of players. Campbell is a striker with plenty of pace and a light frame, like a slower Agbonlahor. Welbeck is a Saha-type player who does a good job of holding up the ball and can keep good control of the ball.

I reckon the signings and transfers done this season can do good for both players. Welbeck can learn a lot from Berbatov's play, and Bent is a type of player Campbell should be looking up to (except for the flop part).

Overall I was impressed by Welbeck today, did well in the position he was employed in and isn't a striker that always looks for the shot, instead other players in better positions. I see great things from him in the future.

Didnt know he's 17. Did very well for someone so young. Promising bunch of kids we have

They're a more "gets the job done" group than those Arsenal kids.

Try to play fancy against a tough team like Bolton would be similar to Ronaldo coming up against Ashley Cole.

He showed great pace and technique but his killer instinct needs is still a bit raw. With Barbie, Manucho, Rooney, Campbell and Tevez upfront it would be difficult for him to break through as a striker. In my opinion he should be tested on the flanks

now that's a definite :nono:

Retard

like every time I have seen him he looked good, hopefully he will get a few sub appearances off the bench in premiership games.

Looked very promising indeed, but he'll have tough times to get into team with so many quality strikers ahead of him.

Its all well and good looking to have more potential than Campbell, but Fraizer is still well ahead of him in terms of experience etc, potential is not allways fulfilled. Fingers crossed they can both be excellent.

Wellbecks first half was basically want we want to see from Berbatov. He was excellent. Second half was a bit more scrappy - just a pity he didn't get a goal
