2007-2009 Fernando Torres shits all over Darwin Nunez. He was a pretty complete forward.
His characteristics don't remind me of peak Torres at all. Some of his finishing reminds me of Chelsea Torres though.
He has improved this season, but I thought he was diabolical on Sunday. So clumsy in possession and that chance he fluffed coming in at the far ppost was comically bad.

I don't necessarily mean this in a bad way, but he is a flat track bully. A really effective one.
I was talking about their style, physique and approach to the game. Most people here also just know EPL Torres.
Torres was a player that missed chances left and right his whole carreer, that also had exceptional scoring seasons.
He also played with an urgency that sometimes made him look even "clouncy", yet that urgency made him be part of multiple scoring occasions that for me is an extremely important asset for any forward, no matter if he scores or not.
He always gave his 110%, he could score a wonder and miss some silly goal in the sdame match.
Both aren't technical marvels, for instance Suarez overall game (intelligence, witt/ cunning, traits and technical ability) was better.
Yet Torres and Darwin still had/ have very good technique with exceptional size and power. Both play with great intensity and generosity.
If Darwin some day will have Torres's Pool excellent season, if he someday he'll have that fair share of clutch moments in NT and Club like Torres had, we don't know. Right now with his current lack of goals against big boys, the odds obvisously won't be on his side, yet the similar traits are there to be seen.
Darwin is young, but not exactly super young for this forward/striker role, Fernando had his best season in Pool at 23/24...it would be a great stepping stone to deliver in these next games in great fashion to assure Liverpool a title a way to build a better carreer from there.

i think he is ok, he does seem to have some horrendous moments but actually does still get quite a few goals. From the small amount I see of him he sort of reminds me of Lukaku, beast mode 1 minute, trips on the ball the next. Like all Liverpool players effort cant be faulted but that could be more a Klopp thing, this could drop off next season.

For 80 million you expect better finishing than that. They wasted top tier money on a half decent backup striker and the fee could still rise... as long as the add ons aren't based upon scoring goals that is

On one hand he's scored 18 which sounds decent.
But it's the miniscule percentage of chances put away that is the important thing.

Nunez is a better prospect and a much better player than Hojlund. I can’t believe we paid so much to get Hojlund.
He has about as much chance of winning the Balon D’Or as I have of winning a Nobel prize.
Him and Diaz have cost them their season, Diaz against City and Nunez virtually every game since (defence takes blame too obviously)
I don't agree with this. I think Nunez would be Antony-esque for us, whereas Hojlund would fill his boots for them.

Prospect? He's 25 in a couple of months. At Hojlund's age he was knocking around in the Spanish second division.
It's funny how our fanbase blamed Andy Cole for missing chances for the title back years ago, compared to Nunez he was like Gerd Muller.

He has strong “he plays with a smile on his face” energy, but the problem for him is that it coincides with him missing sitters and generally looking useless.

Yeah, but Arsenal/Liverpool/City etc. seem to get a free run at transfers and their poor buys don't get called out.
Nunez has 5 more goals than Hojlund this season. Hojlund has been injured, erratic and played in a low scoring, disjointed mess of a team. He's also about 4 or 5 years younger.
Meanwhile, Nunez has played in a free scoring team that have gone deep in 4 competitions and has managed a paltry 18 goals overall. It's pretty clear that Liverpool didn't get the player they thought they were getting.
Poor signing, what's surprising is that many even here were skeptical on his ability considering he cost 70m yet Liverpool believed he was worth it. He just doesn't seem to be mentally strong, or clever, enough to be a consistently great player. Makes terrible decisions constantly.

Who is Nunez, Darwin? a stronk dummy. He shoots hard. He has a fanboy thingy on TikTok. That's about it. No character, boring boring player, and when you need him to score a goal he hits the post beating the odds that would make the biggest casinos cry. "How did he do that?" you wonder but it doesn't matter, you lose points.
He is that Winning Eleven regen that has 18 shots power so you always press Up + Square to shoot a cannonball whenever controlling him. Whether it'd end up as a goal kick or a throw in, it doesn't matter. Me shoot hard. But yeah me lose game also.
