Both? How does 5 > 7?

Well, clearly it isn't that simple, don't you know?

Also, Liverpool's fanbase is larger or at the very least on par with any of those clubs you mentioned (in fact, I'm pretty sure it's larger than Inter's, and Juve's, for instance).

(I'm also neglecting, of course, the fact that all those clubs in your original post bar Milan have won fewer European cups than the Scousers. Like I said, it's not that simple, or else we'd be a 'small club', which, quite frankly, is absurd given the evidence!).

Milan have 18 league titles and 7 European cups. Success is one thing, but you can't hang a hat on it (i.e I wouldn't call Ajax a bigger club than us because they've won more European Cups) Another is value and fanbase. Milan are the 34th most valuable sports team according to Forbes, where as Liverpool didn't even make the top 50.

Sorry, but it is well known that Liverpool have been left behind in this commercialised era of football.

I don't see that as meaning anything in terms of the size and popularity of the club, and I believe I mentioned this from the jump.

For instance, I think a more important measure would be shirt sponsorship, which Liverpool are comfortably in the top five.

It's hard to accept as a United fan, I know, but it is a fact that as clubs go, they don't come much bigger than Liverpool.

Wait are we talking about a brand or a football club? Liverpool are a massive brand but as a football club they've won feck all in recent years. In my opinion, the biggest clubs in the world have both.

Manchester United, Real Madrid, Barcelona, AC Milan .... afterwards it's a shootout between Inter, Bayern, Liverpool etc.

That doesn't look right unless you're going back to when Liverpool had a shedload of Hicks/Gilette debt.

No, I think you go it twisted. Ask yourself this, what do you think a brand and brand recognition/loyalty is when it comes to a football club? - Why do the likes of Gill speak of 'growing our brand'?

You can't be serious if you think Liverpool are a smaller club than Milan, Inter, Bayern or Juve, and even less serious if you think they are a much smaller club.

I've said my piece for the night. Cheers!

I'm wagering a guess. United, Real and Barcelona are the three biggest clubs in the world, after that it's a shoot out between the rest. You said Liverpool are "comfortably" the 4th biggest team in the world. All you've shown to prove that is a shirt deal. In terms of trophy haul, support and value Milan are ahead. Oh, and another added fact is Milan at this moment in time have a much bigger pulling power on players.

Edit: Go to bed, we're treading old water, let's just say that I'm right and you're wrong! :smirk:

What the feck? Makes the hard save and fecks up something I couldn't saved

must be nerves playing into it too, what we are asking him to do is fill the gloves of one of the greatest united keepers in our history. he will get games under his belt and improve

I defended his one against City but that was horrific.

David Oh Dear.

He's very wobbly at the moment but new club. HUGE CLUB. HUGE Ambitions. Following on from one of the goalkeeping greats. Away from home. On the back of a mistake last week.

He needs to get at Old Trafford and feel at home. Its all been a bit alien for him so far.

feck I'm really worried about DDG now.

Well, we're certainly going to learn a lot about his mental strength over the next few games... Not a good start. The worrying thing is that they are basic technical errors.

Not good from him, he really ought to be saving shots like that. Hopefully he can overcome it ASAP as with the start we have we can't be doing with errors like those.

He looks shaky, but so does the defence. Vidic and Smalling not having the best of games, nor is Fabio. Should have saved the shot by Long, that's not in doubt.

Understandable to be worried. Hate to say it, keep having my heart in my mouth whenever we're up against a free kick or corner. Hopefully he comes good as he settles in.

Nerves. It really is showing too. 100% at fault today and a question over both goals last Sunday.

Anyone who has watched Atletico over the past 2 years knows he is better than this though

If anyone actually believed that replacing Van Der Sar was going to be easy, then I don't think they understood just how good he was.

Just remember Evra's debut. Give the lad time to grow into his role.

Steele will get the better out of De Gea. He is young and settling in. Everyone makes mistakes, it is how you learn and become better.

I dont blame him personally, but he clearly is a tad young and 'needs time' then he should be given time and blooded in slowly, not just thrown in
