he reacted slowly, surprised maybe, as if he'd glanced away to take a look at what was happening to his left just as the shot was taken. made some terrific saves though. for a while every shot is going to be an adventure.

Hes great at making instinctive reaction saves, but when theres abit of time for him to think when a shot is coming toward him hes struggled, seems to be very slow getting down to the floor.

GK like Neuer / Schmeichel / VDS have a physical presence that De Gea lacks and until he develops that opposition players will try hit him hard.
I thought he was only 6'2 anyway... He just looks tall because he's skinny.
I'm happy with him so far, he's made a couple of mistakes but most keepers will, especially early in their career and with his circumstances (new team, new country, new language, new pressure) I think we can forgive him a few errors in his first season. And in time I'm certain that £18 million will look a snip

The reason where he seems to be slow to reacting to easy shots is that he is relaxed on the pitch and thus is not switched on enough. I have had times where I have switched off and let in a howler - simple reason is I just lost concentration.

First game I played - first corner I got an elbow in my throat as I cleared the ball. Went tumbling into the nets. Ref played on.
Next corner I came with my elbow and hit the oppostion player he didnt try it again. Other times I would come with my knee - a GK first thought should be protect yourself and then get the ball - dont leave yourself open to a big hit.

I think it will be different in that regards once we get him to Old Trafford, where there wont be a hostile crowd on the ref's back hoping that he'd let a foul slide on de Gea. If anyone tries that shit at OT the ref is going to have 70,000+ people roaring at him to sort it out.
Nani fecked up a lot more than De Gea today, and he's a lot more experienced. It obviously goes a lot more noticed for a goalkeeper but everyone has bad games.

He'll get there. I'm surprised he conceded the goal he did as it's his instincts that are one of the areas that are so promising for me. As said, he seemed to lose focus at the point he thought the shot was covered off and couldn't react quick enough.
The pundits made too much of his aerial weakness today as he got battered in the second half from their attack and got very little from the ref. He needs to bulk up and get a bit wiser but he'll learn that very quickly.
Too many quality attributes in his game for him not to work out. Hopefully he can find some confidence in training this week as we have some nerve-wracking games coming up.

Early on we play Tottenham, Arsenal, and Chelsea at Old Trafford so thinking things will be easy at home would be wrong. It goes to show you how competitive this league has became over the past two-three seasons.

There's too much pressure on him at the moment and it depends how he reacts to it all. I would like to say some of the criticism he has got is premature but he does look a little shaky at times. Just needs time that's all. He could do with bulking up a bit.
Carrick would just stand there for hours, waiting for somebody to pass to.
I'll give De Gea a lot more time before properly judging him.He seems insanely nervous at the moment.It would take some time for De Gea before he improves his confidence.
Next game could be tough for him, Spurs will have more chances.
In the short term he's got to get it into his head that he's not being officiated by Spanish referees anymore
Anyone who thought he wouldn't make any mistakes, is a cnut with no brain who doesn't know football.
Will take some time to acclimatise of course. His footwork is his weakest point and It's up to him to not get demoralised but to continue to soak in everything he can and work hard to improve it. I'm absolutely positive the staff will be doing their best with him.
Alan Smith on sky is a complete cnut. Who the frig is he to talk about how confident De Gae is feeling, and why is he highlighting 2 challenges which the shit ref should have blown for as a sign of weakness...I'm sure Smith would have managed to have plucked that ball from the air with an elbow in his face.

I know it wasn't practical, but I did think he was so shaky that he wasn't doing himself any good, or the rest of the team.
