David De Gea vs Wojciech Szczęsny

Not sure there's too much of a gap between the two to be honest. De Gea is the better keeper, but I don't think the comparison is laughable.

The only keepers comparable to De Gea in the world are Neuer and Courtois.

Szczęsny has conceeded the most penalties for a keeper in the Prem since 2010. My point being, and this was heavily emphasised yesterday, is that in one-on-one situations De Gea is cool as a cucumber, stays on his feet, and doesn't rush out rashly, or try to take the man.

In fact (and I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong) I can't remember De Gea ever conceding a penalty for us.

De Gea > Szczęsny all day long.

Bumping these threads are stupid, a few years back there wasn't a huge difference. De Gea has kept on improving every year while our GK hasn't improved at all.

Come on Jazz, he won a Golden Glove last year. Best in the league.

I do rate Szczesny, although I just think he always has a mistake in him. Where De Gea has just cut that out of his game completely almost. That's what sets them so far apart in my eyes.

Nah, a question was posed about which of two young, talented and upcoming keepers one would rather have. It speaks for itself that one would take into account their development and which of the two would prove to be the more valuable in the future when making a choice... and not philosophically ponder on who of the two 12-year olds in their first or second season of the PL flapped around the most and come to a decision based on that exact moment of time.

Crimianlly under-rated. It beyond me really, the guy got his debut against United at OT. Was nothing short of briliant in that game. then he played in Arsenal's goal for the rest of the season - did nothing wrong (from United POV) apart from pulling of some great saves.

and yet morons here give him stick for...... being an Arsenal player and we know that if you are an Arsenal keeper you're a plonker. yeah righto.

I've been saying this for two years now- hes one of the most talented keepers in world and already one of the best in the EPL.

ATM i'd rather have him in the squad than DDG. This will change once DDG
adapts to the EPL.

Not a bad summary

Ok I could kind of understand some people picking Szczesny over DDG at the start of this thread seen as he had a slow start but this just takes the piss :lol::lol:

In my opinion He isn't even the best keeper at Arsenal, let alone up there with one of the best in the world!

The comparison was never great, DDG was always better and always would be, that much was apparent. Granted it was a lot closer a few seasons ago.

I've always rated Szczesny quite highly but Arsenal fans I know always seem to be on more of a downer on than I always expect.

Can you think of any reasons why Szeszny's development has stalled?

That was down to our defence rather than the keeper. He hasn't improved at all mate in years, still the same keeper he was 2 or 3 years ago.

Yeah but laughing at peoples opinions after a few years with hindsight is just a bit childish and stupid imo.

I don't think he has the focus to become a top keeper. He has concentration issues and I think is far too laid back.

I think when it comes to commanding his area & collecting crosses there is might be case to be made he might be better but when it comes to shot stopping it isn't even close. I think commanding the area and aerial ball aspect is where De Gea falls short in terms of comparisons with Neuer & Courtois. When it comes to shot stopping he's right up there.

Last season our keeper showed a particular weakness towards long shots. When it comes to penalties I can't even remember the last time he dived in the right direction let alone save a penalty! With our shit our defence has been the guy gets plenty of practise but I struggle to remember many games where I can the keeper won us any points.

Why are people laughing at someone's opinion from 2 years ago? Obviously DDG is better than Szczesny right now but there wasn't that much between them 2 years ago. Anyone who says they saw this coming is a fecking liar.

Speaking of opinions from years ago, does anyone else remember when Anderson was supposedly going to be better than Fabregas?

I don't think that's true. Loads of people have been convinced that it was only a matter of time for De Gea to become one of the best in the world since the dya we signed him. If anything surprised people it's that Chesney did so well for so long.

I agree. I really like Szcesny, and would have been happy if we signed him instead of DDG 3 years ago. In hindsight it's easy to see that DDG has had a much better development, but any amateurs like the lot of us in here pretending to have foreseen it are just being silly.

Not even slightly true, it was always well known before we signed him he could be world class, Szczesny always had a ceiling.
Before he came to united he already won the Europa League and Super Cup in a good Athletico Madrid side.

It was either his first or maybe second season with us where he had the highest shots/saves ratio in the league. He was being ridiculed at the time by most fans and pundits but it was pretty clear he was as special a talent as they come.
