David Moyes | West Ham in talks with him for managerial job

@prath92 contrast Moyes' message with that of Mark Hughes whose Stoke sit bottom of the league and have Man Utd away next.

Stoke City manager Mark Hughes: "We think it's only a matter of time before it comes because we're not playing badly. The last two games I've seen a confident team, a team that wants to address the situation and get the maximum points.

"It's not as if our confidence has been affected, we're fine in that regard, but clearly we want to get three points on the board as quickly as possible.

"It's going to be difficult this weekend because clearly our record at Manchester United isn't great. It's a big ask but, if we're going to get a first win on the board, why can't it be at Old Trafford?"
Never in a month of Sundays would Moyes come out with something so positive.

Hughes is talking absolute shit though. Stoke have been appalling to say the least and under no circumstances do they look like a team with confidence. If Moyes had said this lots here would be comments of 'delusions' and they would be right too.

There's nothing negative about the comment Moyes said that you posted. He could've said it better maybe but he isn't taking part in Model UN. He doesn't get points for saying stuff in the presser.

I don't like him at all but this nitpicking of him is a bit too much.

It's not nitpicking. Everything about him is so shit

I agree the comment I posted from Moyes wasn't negative, well, only sofar that it lacked clarity and certainly wasn't encouraging. I also agree Sparky is talking-up Stoke with a clear and confident message. We can consider what is more realistic but to some extent it is a Positive Mental Attitude that defines our reality, outlook and approach. Moyes' fails to grasp that and his current situation is one of self-fulfilment: "think shit... be shit..." Criticism from United supporters is justified after he imposed that same attitude on their club.

That could be Moyes managerial mantra.

Next 3 league games are Stoke away, West Ham away and Arsenal home. Next 2 are fellow struggling teams but both with lot more quality on paper than Sunderland and with home advantage. Both Stoke and Hammers will be up for it to get a win on board and climb up. Say a point only of next 3 and Moyes will be in trouble.

Doubled their points tally at the weekend. haha.

I back Stoke to win against them in 2 weeks time. If they lose that one, it could be his end. The next game is West ham, really make or break for him the next few weeks.

You think Moyes could be sacked so early? It's only October.

It is early but his attitude is so bad he just exudes negativity. To come out and say "we're in a relegation battle" right at the start of the season, then to effectively say his players are shite the other week and he wants new ones.... it wouldn't surprise me if he's gone after a few more bad results.

If he doesnt win one of the next 2 games, everything is possible. They have 2 points after 7 games, time to win a game. Imagine him with 3 points after 9 games, would be surprised if he is still there for the Arsenal game, not that it would matter much for Sunderland, since they wont take a point from them.

Moyes has never made a good start anywhere he's been! Even at Preston and Everton things were slow to get going. Couldn't afford to be slow off the mark at Sunderland though as they haven't got a good enough squad to significantly under perform and still stay out of the bottom 3. He needed to hit the ground running and he's yet to do so that any of the 5 clubs he's now managed!

Perhaps he should have shown a bit more imagination in the transfer market rather than opting for 34 year old Steve Piennar, Paddy McNair and Donald Love as his first signings! You'd think he'd have an awful lot of contacts (given he's time at top level) and I'm always hearing how he's such a workaholic watching so many games around Europe so surely he could have got some better players in even at short notice!?

I still think he might be a decent manager given time; playing a poor style of football, but there's not many jobs around these days were you can have 18 months odd of fecking up before you start to get it right. Perhaps he lacks the decisiveness and charisma to have an instant mnpact anywhere?

Yeah Moyes teams always seem to struggle in the early parts of the season. Maybe down to the fact he runs his players into the ground in Pre-season with his boot camp training methods. What was his major innovation he brought to United the Horse shoe?

It was something about color coding 100s of scouted players in some room, with his staff, to shortlist and decide on who to go for. We bought Fellaini at end of it who is still here. Proof enough that his methods work.

He needed all that to make the decision to sign player who had played under him for 5 years.

Jesus he really is indecisive.

Sunderland have struggled to win any of their first 7 games in 3 of the last 4 seasons, nothing to do with Moyes in the previous seasons.

Just as average/poor as those other managers then? Cool.

Moyes fancies himself a CL level manager - glad we can dismiss that.

Some of the mistakes on the pitch have been dreadful, no Manager would have been able to prevent those.

Tiresome? Try listening to Moyes' defenders with absolutely nothing in their argument beyond 'he's a nice, hard working bloke'. Which is bollocks itself.

Again :boring: with the insults, Moyes is a decent manager who wasn't good enough for United. He's picked a tough job at Sunderland
It's never his fault, huh? The Sociedad job, it wasn't his fault there either.

And?

What does that have to do with me commenting on how Moyes teams regularly start seasons?

This constant belitting of Moyes is tiresome. Some of the mistakes on the pitch have been dreadful, no Manager would have been able to prevent those.

It's amazing how Moyes keeps finding himself in these impossible situations that no manager on planet earth could do better in.

That's just the thing. Why is it such a big deal that there isn't clarity? It would matter if this was a speech competition. Not in a football game.

Valid critiscism is fine but finding stuff in everything just to insult him is a bit crazy. It's almost like being obsessed at critiscizing him especially when he is not even at United.

He doesn't help himself. I'm not even a United fan and I can't stand the guy. To have such little self-awareness and tendency to shift blame is a poor combination.

I do think he's a decent manager but getting the United job went to his head and he overestimated his abilities as a result.

Don't you think it better that a club figurehead whose statements will be nationally, even globally, reported should convey a message of clarity, strength and leadership? There is a link between the message conveyed and confidence in the team and manager at all levels.

It's not finding stuff in everything... only the stuff Moyes does wrong... which ok, is almost everything.

This is Sunderland. Very few care about them outside wearside and Tyneside.

I really doubt that post match conferences make any differences to players, coaches, owners etc.

There are heaps of shit managers in epl, some bigger name you didn't even realize managing a team until they're sacked... Cough.. Di mateo

What they have in common? They keep their mouth shut and go on with their job. Yes it's a shit job! Nobody puts a gun in his head to accept it! The players are there for him to analyze (the so called epl proven vet) but only now he realizes they're shit.

You obviously don't see the positives/negatives in generating a winning/losing aura around a club.

Yeah, he's already told us that. And that players are not good enough to play for him, and that he cannot hold them by the hand and they need to be held responsible. Brilliant man manager.

Truth is it's always largely manager's fault when a team is doing so badly. If he came out and said he will try to fix it, he made mistakes etc., I don't think people would hate him. It's that he then comes out and says stuff like that he is a CL manager, players are not good enough and he can do nothing etc. is why people seriously dislike him. I mean it's the same David Moyes who put all credit behind Sociedad win over Barcelona on him saying 'I showed out there what David Moyes can do', despite the fact they almost always beat them at Anoeta anyway. He's a maniac and very unlikeable. I think people will react differently when/if van Gaal manages his next team. He was a maniac too but a) not as deluded, b) reasonably likeable, c) successful.

Jesus why can't we leave the guy alone

"we're in a relegation battle " he would be crazy to say anything else , they are in a relegation battle every season, change there managers like I change my socks ( once a month wether needed or not !! ) had a diabolical transfer window and only have 1 forward on the books ! What do you expect him to say , we are aiming for Europe !!

His players ARE shite and he DOES need new ones

Let's just leave him alone we have our own problems to deal with because the battle for the top 4 is going to be more difficult than ever before

What a mess

So unless you work at google every other company is shit.

Their target is to avoid relegation, it's not like their target is top 4.

I forgot we weren't allowed to talk about other things besides our own performances. What is this forum nonsense?

What's this got to do with anything?
Rafa's "fachts" debacle is the perfect antidote to your ridiculous "press conferences make no difference to players, coaches, owners etc" argument. Just ask Steven Gerrard:

But in his new book, My Story, serialised in the Daily Mail, Gerrard said that the speech "backfired" and turned Benitez into a laughing stock at Old Trafford.

“Rafa sat down with his usual half-smile," said Gerrard. "It looked likely to be a normal press conference, but then he reached into his pocket for a piece of paper.

“He spread it out on the table and began to read out one ‘fact’ after another. Rafa kept saying ‘fact... fact... fact...’ and I could not believe what I was hearing. I was grabbing the couch, digging my fingers into the arms, feeling embarrassed for him.

“When I met up with England all the Manchester United players told me Fergie was just laughing at Rafa, saying: ‘I’ve got him. I’ve got him.’"

The fact that I've had to spell this out for you tells me all I need to know.
