David Moyes | West Ham in talks with him for managerial job

Moyes on not leaving due to supporter pressure:

“It will never be because of the supporters,” he said.

“I totally appreciate supporters because I’m a football supporter and I take responsibility. But I also feel that the responsibility should be shared and, if it was only directed at the manager, then I would be saying it’s probably not correct.

“But, being a football supporter, the manager is probably an easy target – that’s it. I’m the public front. Twelve months ago everyone was saying the best appointment was David Moyes. No one was saying it wasn’t.

Blameless as always. Never his fault.

"Twelve months ago everyone was saying the best appointment was David Moyes. No one was saying it wasn’t."

Were they? If I said anything like that, I certainly don't remember. Pretty sure there'd have been plenty of warnings about the Moyes effect, more so since any reputation he built at Everton doesn't mean much nowadays after very poor managerial performances and excessive self-delusion. Then again, this is just another ridiculous statement that exemplifies that last criticism.

Doubt Sunderland will sack him despite the relegation.

They've wasted so much money in the last few years and I imagine the owners want Moyes to do what he did at Everton - find lower-league and lesser-known foreign players for next to nothing. By all accounts Moyes runs quite a forensic recruitment operation which has probably impressed them.

In the Championship it will actually be easier to recruit players like that because you can give them first-team football and mesh them into the team. The owners will probably tell Moyes to build a completely new side in the Championship, and get rid of all the Rodwells.

Lot of assumptions there but that's my feeling anyway.

The title of this thread will be changed to mark Sunderland's relegation later today.

Hull are away to Southampton and need to better Sunderland's result, at home to Bournemouth, for Sunderland to get relegated today. So, it may not happen today. Hull themselves can relegate Sunderland mathematically next week though.

He is a terrible manager. Getting Sunderland relegated with a few games to go with dross like Middlesbrough, Hull, Swansea and Burnley above them.

I actually wanted him to have more time at United and even after it became apparent he was failing I thought some of the criticism of his character was quite unfair, he seemed likeable even if he was incompetent. The more we hear about him though, the more obvious it is that he's really quite conceited - nay, delusional.

Ah, i might have jumped the gun claiming Sunderland will be relegated today.

Whatever people say about Fat Sam and Tony Pulis, at the very least, Sunderland would be in with a chance of staying up at this stage of the season, not odds on for relegation.

And yet almost all of his signings have been United or Everton rejects.

I don't think anyone in the world, even the most deluded optimistic Sunderland fan in the universe would have said that the best appointment was David Moyes. Good grief.

Moyes... you're a twat. Anyone would have had a tough time keeping Sunderland up this season... apart from any managers who

  • Didn't tell their fans to expect to be relegated a few days into the job.

  • Didn't insult their fans by saying they should be managing a CL club.

  • Didn't publicly say the whole team was crap.

  • Didn't waste their budget on terrible players.

  • Didn't bitch and moan in every interview.

  • Didn't deflect every single bit of criticism, insisting they are a better manager than ever.

  • Didn't walk around like death incarnate, sapping the happiness and joy out of everyone they look at.

  • Didn't play with archaic dinosaur tactics.

Wasn't one of David Moyes 'strengths' was that he could work on a limited budget/limited resources?.........

Used to be... until he decided after leaving Everton that he'd sign former Everton players wherever he goes who are mostly past it. Even the one who wasn't (Fellaini), Moyes had no idea how to get the best out of him which is moronic considering he had been his manager for years.

It's really bloody patronising to fans when managers do the Third-Person thing.

I can tell you're looking forward to changing it:lol:

Must admit, as others have said on here, I can never forget the huge roars/cheers from Sunderland fans when we lost that title, so yes...I'll be cheering loudly when it's confirmed they are going down. We won the title back the next season as we all know, but I don't think Sunderland will be coming back to the PL after next season.....:smirk:

Gets on the Sunderland supporters tits it does. You have to wonder if no one ever has a word with him on his public utterances

I don't think they'll come up back for a while either, especially if they keep Moyes. The Championship is quite competitive as well, it won't be easy at all..

THE GUARDIAN

David Moyes has indicated he may leave Sunderland at the end of the season.

So, what do we make of this? Has he realised that he won't get sacked and therefore won't receive a nice pay-off? Wouldn't surprise me.

Tbh, i think that's petty. It's a case of tall poppy syndrome. Sucks when you're on the receiving end but that's what happens to the biggest and most successful teams and their supporters.

Probably. Mind, he holds himself in such high esteem he probably thinks the Championship is 'beneath' him..

Moyes would have no hesitation leaving Sunderland if (when) they get relegated.

I actually respect Rafa for the fact he stayed at Newcastle after they went down with the aim of bringing them up the following season which is what he's achieved with them. If Moyes is the great manager he thinks he is, he ought to stay at Sunderland at take them back up next season.

Maybe so..but it doesn't change the emotion you felt at the time...petty or not!!

Fair enough. Everybody is different and if i was a United supporter, i wouldn't have cared about the poznan but each to their own.

In total agreement with this.
I know we tease him a lot, but he gained my respect by doing this. A winner of the CL no less showing that kind of humility - good for him, and as we can see, for Newcastle too..

I never thought I'd care about Bournemouth vs Sunderland but today I'm a Bournemouth fan. I despise the guy and I hope he gets absolutely spanked today.

Big Sam is imo the most underrated manager in the Premier League. His teams might not play entertaining open football, but his tactics are effective.

That's just it though it you are not a United fan (and I say this not having a go or starting an argument), in a totally unique and likely to never happen again situation having the Sunderland fans do Man Citys celebration to rub our noses in it was the icing on the cake on what was a nightmare few minutes. Still makes my blood boil even thinking of it. Really was one of those in the moment kind of things.

Similar to Figo signing for Madrid incensed Barcelona fans to everyone else it was great drama/viewing etc. (I cant think of any other Barcelona controversies off the top of my head). Id like to think I wouldn't have thrown a pigs head on the pitch if I was a Barcelona fan at the time but cant say that in the moment I definitely wouldn't have.

Something like those situations would obviously affect fans of that club directly while if you weren't there at the time its hard to say how you would react. (not you personally just in general).

Anyway like I said not having a go and if you can say it wouldn't have bothered you in the same scenario if it was you substitute City for Madrid/Espanol and Sunderland for Villareal/Deportivo or whoever then fair play.
