It annoys me so much cause I swear to god Madrid fans won't even appreciate him and his performances.

They'll just wait till he has a bad performance and the jeers will start.

Then just like Ronaldo he'll realise how good he had it at United and how well the fans treated (still treat) them.

How good is Cech off his line and with his distribution? The style we play at the moment, that's the kind of keeper that would be preferable.

Not that I'd say no to Cech, he's pretty damn good.

I'd take a solid keeper than one who is good off his line but prone to clangers every once in a while. Lloris comes to mind.

I'd be amazed if they cared about signing a goalkeeper - maybe I'm doing the Real Madrid fans a disservice, but I really can't see fans conditioned to make top muppet fantasy signings every single summer bothering too much about a new body stood between the sticks watching Perez' toys overwhelming most of La Liga, and most of Europe in general.

When can we expect an answer? If it's all done, Real will want him by the time they start training again after the vacation, right?

Christ knows. Maybe if we were particularly worried about fan reaction to his sale we might hold off on announcing it until we have a big deal ready ourselves. I'm sure the optics of the way things unfold are considered important at times like this and are part of the negotiations.

A few minutes after Barcelona win the CL on Saturday. Sure fire way to upstage them.

Think it will be Real and their optics driving any delay. They'll want to unveil him properly in a big way, so probably can expect it when the Spain matches are done

We use agents we are familiar with and respect us. We don't go to a club and say "Hi we want de gea heres 20m bid". We talk to De Gea's agent - we see if he's interested in joining Manchester United. The agent talks to his client, gives Man Utd an answer. Then the agent talks to the club he's currently at saying Man Utd have shown interest and his client wants to leave. Normally having super agents help because a club doesn't want to piss off a Mendes and does things a lot more respectfully. "Okay we see, he wants to leave that's fine, we want 30m for him." The agent then negotiates between the two teams and finds a price that both can settle for.

Jupiter already answered you. And I know exactly what agents do, that's not my point. My point is that, this particular agent is loyal to Fiorentino Perez, and his best clients will end up there. Other top clubs seem to be doing well without having to line Mendes pocket.

Hopefully Ed is doing a Levy and charging a real hard bargain. If they want him badly enough they will meet us half way. I think with Rafa wanting Ronaldo as the lead striker we could definitely Nab Benzema for a good fee/fair swap.

Obviously the ideal scenario is them getting annoyed and signing somebody like Cech instead, and him coming out and saying it was a hard choice but he decided to stay. I have accepted though it's very unlikely, and I just hope we get a fair price / swap deal to appease us. This should be a lesson that whenever a player is looking good don't leave the contract to the last year.

Not too bothered about Benzema. He'd be a nice addition and all but I don't think he'd add that much over Rooney.

Rooney has only broken 20 goals once in his last 5 seasons now and that's whilst averaging 40 appearances. People can say what they want about him playing in midfield this year but his performances up front during the run in (Spurs aside) have been sub par. Benzema is still only 27 and would be a great addition for us I think.

It's not a question of either or, both wold play in our starting 11 & as such Benzema would be a good addition.

I think the way Madrid has handled this through the press may have been the camel that broke the straws back. We don't need their money, they have rebuked us for every offer we have made for a player happily saying they don't sell their best players as they're Real Madrid and then to top it all they want our Goalie but they'll be the ones to decide the price. Feck em, Degea can go on a free next season if he wants to leave.

Not too fussed either but I agree Benzema is a definite upgrade on Rooney up front.

He's a far better finisher than Rooney.

I should have been clearer. I do think Benzema is a better finisher than Rooney but I don't think he is capable of changing a game on his own.

We saw with Rooney this year, when our attacking play is poor, he cannot change a game. When he was playing with Ronaldo, Scholes, Tevez, Giggs etc, he looked great. Benzema looks great playing with Ronaldo, Bale, Isco, James and Modric. Until we have a decent attacking system, Benzema would be no more effective than Rooney.

playing hardball with De Gea goes against what luis said about no point keeping a player who doesn't want to be here

Just an awkward scenario really.

yes, but you have to have some kind of balance.

Otherwise, all a player would have to do is say they want out, and you lose any bargaining whatsoever.

As I said before, he's easily the difference between us making top 4 and very easily not making it. There's no fee that Real will pay to account for that kind of value.

A season of watching Madrid play shit on a stick football, and Benitez constantly talking about how desperate they are to get new players in, and he might change his mind. At least it leaves the possibility in play.

We don't need 30£ anything like we need De Gea, even for one season, imho.

Did he use those words?

I think De Gea wants to be here, he just wants to be in Madrid more.

I don't see De Gea threatening to sit on the bench all season if he doesn't get his transfer. Even Ronaldo stayed for an extra season.

De Gea did inform the club he was waiting on if we qualify for CL when he asked him to sign in January, and then went back on his word anyway.

Real Madrid could fall dramatically and still have their pick of players. It seems like more of a status thing than anything; being able to say that they played for Real.

I'd still keep him for the season mind. For all the use that sort of sum is to a club this size it would be better keeping him.

Yeah, it's not going to happen. You know, unless something special happens. Like Blatter roles over on Perez and the whole higherarchy goes to prison.

he said it regarding DiMaria when all the talk was he was unhappy and wanted to leave. mentioned total person principle in that a player needs to be happy on/off the pitch to buy into the team ethic, and wouldn't hold a player against their will

On this forum it is as if Ronaldo has become a shell of his former self at Madrid and the fans piss on him.

This is more like it. Good man Ed!

Ditto that and feck Madrid, if Woodward can get GM to part with half a billion pounds over a shirt deal he shouldn't have problems getting Real Madrid to pay us a fee that respects our status as a club. If they want to feck us over I sincerely hope we tell them where to stick it.

Not sure how Ed Woodward can play hardball here? De Gea could easily just play this season and sign on a free in January. It's not like Real Madrid are in desperate need for a keeper; they have two who would fit into most top teams already.

The only way United can win this one is if they offer De Gea so much money that he just says screw it and stays. But he might do a Sterling and refuse to stay for any amount and if he does, fair play to him. He'll be going to one of the top 3 teams in the world.

Ballague mentioned on sky this week we've apparently offered him 5x wage increase. so its clearly not the priority
