He could always you know... Decide not to save the shots?. Players have refused to play before (berbatov/tevez) and he could possibly do it to us too.

We need to sell him for as much as possible, but it'll happen right at the end of the window. Don't forget Madrid will want to settle it fairly quickly too so they can sell casillas and avoid problems with their potential transfer ban.
That could see him ending up in jail on Match fixing charges.

Why would it? Because he dived but just didn't quite reach it? That ball he might usually catch might just be dropped by accident. Many ways he could cost us if he really wanted. It's just a bad idea.

If they can prove that he deliberately let the ball in the net he could be done. I remember they tried to do Grobbelaar back in the day.

They shouldn't - but would. Ronaldo used the slave line, Rooney called his team mates rubbish, people will say what they want to move. I personally don't want an unmotivated player in goal for us.

If such a case were to happen where we ask him to stay for the last year of his contract, the least you could expect from him is a bit of professionalism. I don't quite think he is the prima donna type who will throw a hissy fit if he doesn't get his move and he will in all likelihood, respect the club's decision. It's not like he hates the club or is unsettled or anything of that sort, at this stage he just prefers Real (by the looks of it). At this point in his career, he can't afford to spend a year sulking on the bench, especially with Casillas more or less being #1 for Spain despite not exactly playing much for Real. You can bet your ass that Del Bosque will stick with him for Euro 2016 if De Gea spends a year on the bench. The last thing he wants is to affect his own development by not playing for a year as well, he is still just 24 mind - nowhere near a peak for a goalie in general.

I'd rather we let him leave too on amicable terms but if it were to come to that, I think he will be more of a Lewandowski, than a sulky presence rotting in the stands.

I voted yes, and I'm sticking with it and hoping that all of this is media bluster and that it will all become a non-story with big Dave staying with us for at least one more year. Incidentally if he does stay, I pray to god that we meet Real Madrid in the UCL and thump them at the Bernabeu - if anything so that DDG can see the kind of hostility the Real stars get from portions of their own fans when things aren't going well.

Xabi Alonso joined Real even though Liverpool pistol whipped them in the CL the previous season.

Navas apparently injured at Copa America and looks likey to miss start of the season, so that will mean Real are even more desperate. + £5m on the price Woody :)

So no new reliable news in a while now. If this is as straight forward as the papers have been making it seem, why isn't it remotely close to being done yet?

Says who? For all we know, United could have asked Real and DDG to keep quiet about a deal until we have a replacement sorted out. We literally have no idea how close the deal is to being done.

I'm just worried about the state of our defence when he goes. He's saved us so often this year.

The longer it drags on the more hopeful I'll be.

Casillas certainly doesn't look like he'll be leaving despite all the pro-Madrid press trying to wish him out the door. And if Madrid have really just come in with one pathetically low bid that's hardly going to send the right sort of message to De Gea.

Now they says he won't go there if Casillas stays.

Im starting to dislike this guy. This whole situation stinks, I mean what top team loses their first choice goalkeeper before they hit their prime? Teams usually dump goalkeepers, not the other way round. De Gea has used us as a stepping fecking stone. I can't think of when this has happened in recent history.

C Ronaldo

Him wearing 13 on the back of his shirt should have been a big clue :(

That is because FSW tried to get Alonso outta the door for Gareth fkng Barry the previous season. He should have tried to join us to rub it in.

I think it's easy to feel like he's shafting us the longer this goes on. The sooner this gets done, the better it'll be for all concerned. He's been silent about the whole thing, which can be said to be respectful, but only up to a certain point. The longer he stays silent, the more it feels like he's just keeping us as an option in case Casillas is still number one at Real.

Some of us said that he would be using us as a stepping stone when he signed. No surprise there.

The club has probably instructed him to stay quiet. I'm sure things are happening between him and the club behind the scenes.

What you have to look at is that RVP, ADM and AJ have all came out and said they want to stay at the club. DDG has said nothing.

De Gea would have, in my view, far too much personal and professional pride to play badly because he was peeved about not getting a move. The guy has always given his best for the club. And at the moment is contracted to his existing employer for a further year. So he doesn't have to say anything to the media until there's something to say and he's not being disrespectful to United by keeping his own counsel. Like anyone else he's entitled to weigh up his career options and at the moment, he's in the same position as Evans, Rafael and Jones who all have a year to run on their existing contracts. Just that De Gea is a player everyone would want to keep! I really hope he stays, however, losing him to Madrid or Barcelona was always my fear when his quality started to flourish.

I felt the same way before we even signed him, like what happens when he becomes the best Spanish GK. I wasn't even sold on him but he was considered a top young talent. Maybe its his laid back personality, I just never felt like he ever 'fell in love' with United. With Lindegaard for instance you feel he always knew what playing for United meant. If De Gea was the same I don't think he'd want to leave. Its what it is

I wonder if Man Utd are insisting that they have a replacement in place before letting him go? Would be the sensible thing to do.

Could be the case, but there have been no serious links with any top quality GK.

I am pretty certain the delay is due to Casillas. I can't see de gea moving unless Casillas leaves. The guy is too influential there, couple of bad games and the media + his backers in the club would want him back in the 11.

The reliable Daily Mail has "reported" that he has told the squad that he intends to join Real this summer.

Manchester United tell Real Madrid: if you want De Gea, we’ll have Ramos
Manchester United have responded to Real Madrid’s bid for David De Gea by telling the Spanish club they want to sign Sergio Ramos, the Guardian understands.

The 29-year-old central defender, who has played 128 times for Spain, has an official buyout clause of €180m (£128m). But his contract at the Santiago Bernabéu expires in July 2017 and United are believed to think they have a chance of signing Ramos without having to meet that figure.

Real Madrid have already had an initial bid for De Gea turned down, believed to be in the region of €18m. Representatives then travelled to the UK for a meeting at which they requested United set a price for the goalkeeper. Madrid remain convinced they will eventually sign De Gea, who has one year left on his contract and wants to return to Spain, and anticipated a meeting that would be a formality. Instead they met a counter-bid: you want De Gea, we want Ramos.

The central defender has been at Real Madrid for 10 seasons since joining from Sevilla for €27m euros. He has played more than 400 games for Madrid and is the vice-captain but negotiations over a new contract have been at a standstill for some time. There have been significant hints of a tension between the player and the club, encouraging United in their pursuit.

There has been interest from other clubs in Europe but none have communicated that directly to Madrid. Real deny having any offers at all. The Barcelona presidential candidate, Jordi Majo, claimed he had been indirectly offered Ramos two days ago. Real Madrid did not deny that story but the player’s camp did, in the Spanish media.

Ramos has two years left on the deal he signed in 2011, meaning Madrid’s hand may not yet be forced – certainly not to the extent that they believe United’s hand is forced regarding De Gea. It is unusual for Madrid to allow a player’s deal to enter into the final two years, though. According to calculations by the Spanish sports daily AS, 11 of the last 14 renewals undertaken by the president, Florentino Pérez, have been finalised before this stage.

Ramos earns €6m euros a year after tax.

I wouldnt read too much into this. I cant see why we would ever go for Ramos

Why would go for Ramos? One of 4 reasons.

1-the story is BS 2- we accepted long ago DDG was going and we wanted a player in exchange. Order of prefernce? Maybe Benzema, Bale, Varane. We we told to feck off as.none off the players was for sale. 3- we had our targets for CB indentified but their clubs, agents told us the move wasnt possible. So we had to look elswhere thus intrest in Ramos. 4 we just want to bully Madrid.
