Carragher is amazing.
He's been avoiding a new contract for two years ( I've read on here). Sold him last year? We'd not have finished top four IMO.
Cannot believe we have left ourselves in such a weak bargaining position, we should have sold him last year if it looked like he was pining for Spain - at the very least doubled his money and locked him down. If he had another 3 years on his contract I think we could demand approximately £50m for him, as it stands we're going to get mugged and sell him for £20m. As others have said, we need to learn from this and keep talented guys in contracts. I can see exactly the same thing happening with Ander in a few years.
The easiest one he'll ever make, tbf. This talk of "He'll regret it" is all a bit David Brent lying in bed in a Comfort Inn.If a player wants to leave the club can't do a whole lot about it. A lengthy contract ensures you get a decent fee but if he's unhappy and wants to go somewhere else, you pretty much have to sell. You can't force him to sign a long contract. At best you can maybe persuade them to stay another year (e.g. Ronaldo).
De Gea leaving is perfectly understandable. Reverse the situation: a world class English goalkeeper, born in Manchester, is playing for Real Madrid. His girlfriend, family and friends are all back home. Man Utd (let's assume it's the United under Fergie that was winning trophies) come knocking and want him to be their number 1 for the next 10 years. Easy decision really.
He's got great powers of prediction regarding De Gea.Carragher is amazing.

isn't that a bit of an old argument against DDG - can't remember him flapping this season. On your suggestion of Begovic, definitely my preferred option too.he certainly would have handled corners and crosses better.
In that alternate reality it would depend who we replaced him with. He's a fantastic keeper but I'm not sure that someone like Begovic would have been such a massive drop off - he certainly would have handled corners and crosses better.

The only thing leaving a slightly bitter taste in my mouth (if he goes) is that he hardly acknowledged the fans when he was taken off in his last game - even Falcao did thatLet's not be bitter lads, he has given us a couple of great years and I am thankful for that. This could have been handled better but in the end better players have left us in the past and we have moved on.
Quite right, like Peter Schmeichel, that wasn't too much of an issueLet's not be bitter lads, he has given us a couple of great years and I am thankful for that. This could have been handled better but in the end better players have left us in the past and we have moved on.
If that's the case, then you cannot blame him in that regard. I mean, the shovel of shit he has had to deal with in front of him for 4 seasons has been nothing short of atrocious. If van Gaal can sort that as well as get some true winners up front, then that can surely show him.
Nah, we'll be having Cech. Cheers. Please, please, please, please replace De Gea with Begovic.
"I remember when people put effort into their WUMing" is going to become the 21st century's "Back in my day this was all fields"What is the expected transfer fee?

The sun say it'll be £30m, can't see it being more than 30 million euros though. What is the expected transfer fee?

For me the real question, is who are going to sign in order to appease the fans and Woodie?

UK press and media use Pounds and Euros interchangeably when quoting pricesThe sun say it'll be £30m, can't see it being more than 30 million euros though.
Exactly. What about when we shat ourselves whenever the opposition team had a corner or just them bearing down on goal? For almost 2 seasons he was absolutely shaky. Sir Alex, Eric Steele and the fans supported him throughout. The least he could have done would be to sign a new contract and let us have a decent fee for him. I am very cynical about his reasons being family, girlfriend etc. I believe he always wanted to go to Madrid (which is fine) and just waited to see what happened with Casillas. If you look at it objectively, he did everything to make this transfer to Madrid as easy as possible for Madrid. When you think Madrid would never have supported him if he started as badly as he did with us, and he thinks it's ok to do everything to make their job easier....... this really pisses me off.Shovel of what for 4 seasons, huh!? Ah so when he was carried in the start by those in front of him, then it was ok...its freaking amazing how people finds all kinds of reasons to understand his decision to leave us (if he leaves that is).
Morning sunshine, you've been asleep for 4 years and have a lot of catching up to do. Ferguson left, Moyes was our manager for a bit, the country is now under Conservative power rather than a coalition, Cuba and the US are now trading, the crisis in the middle east has gotten worse, NASA landed a craft on a comet, Mandela is dead as is Thatcher and Facebook is now a PLC.
I think Begovic is more dominant aerially than DDG, am I wrong?
Yes.I think Begovic is more dominant aerially than DDG, am I wrong?
I think DDG has done the right thing by staying quiet, it's strange that people hated Ronaldo for going public but don't like the fact that DDG has remained silent through all this. In the end I think as much as LVG would want us to believe otherwise the club have known for a while that he will leave this summer and frankly a lot of the fans have also known for months once it became clear that there is no contract being signed
