With season they just had and with FSW,wonder could they afford to wait one year without buying a new no1 (if we refuse to sell DDG this summer).

Don't worry guys, he's still gonna send us kisses and hugs from Spain like Cristiano does while we can hate Rooney for staying.

funny how people want us to let De Gea go on a free but for several years have we have heard the complaints about letting Pogba go on a free.

I have a feeling that while it makes us all feel good on a forum to play the tough guy in real life would doing so end up hurting the club more in the future.

In the words of the late Aaliyah we need a resolution. I not fussed either way something just needs to get done.

Money isn't really an issue so those 25m won't really make or break anything for the club. An extra season might. Who knows what happens if Real can't get him this summer. They might look elsewhere (like Cech whom Benitez is familiar with).

Pogba has nothing to do with this. He was a youngster with no experience and different rules apply to them. You're also assuming that the people that would rather have De Gea leave on free are the same people that moan about Pogba going for free. It's not funny as the same thing would be said about De Gea if he leaves on a free.

Bet there's 2 or 3 other keepers wishing he would make up his fkn mind.

How about we stop signing Mendes clients [Iberians and Spanish players] who are 19 yrs old and have a big future ahead of them, that will be a good start. Anyway, contract situation, if he hasn't signed a contract now, we might as well sell him and move on. Finally, hope this will push us to sign some proper defenders.

This.

Would you hold this 2 year contract dispute with DDG over his head if he decides to stay?
Don't think anyone would tbh. He's the best keeper in the world imo, and signing him on for another 5 years would put a smile on every united fans face I'd imagine.

Exactly.

...and if he isn't already the best 'keeper in the world now, he's looking bloody likely to be the best within the next few seasons.

What and getting £25m for him is okay? That's only a c£5m profit, it'd be worth keeping him for another season.
No I agree 25mil is way undervalued.

I'm just saying, if we resign ourselves to the fact he is leaving, which he is, it's either 25 mil or keep an unhappy keeper for a year then he leaves for nothing.

That's all I meant.

Hows the Madrid derby for hostility? There seems to be next to nothing mentioned about this....he's not gonna get a bit of shit for that?

I think the only teams that still take rivalries seriously in the top leagues are United and Liverpool, They'll probably just boo him in the first derby.

Be realistic, we are not going to win the CL with just De Gea between the posts next season. The offer is a straight up choice between 25m or zilch and I will definitely take the money to get in a good replacement.

Our current extravagance in the transfer window and player's wages has conveniently erased the difficult financial situation we had to go through in the last few years of SAFs management. 25m is quite a lot of money for a goalkeeper and I would definitely take it if there was no way to convince De Gea to stay.

Its going to be mighty fun when Benitez comes up with his usual hare brained schemes to play him in the league and Casillas in Europe or vice versa.

What we paid for him shouldn't be taken into consideration when making a decision. It's a sunk cost. Better to sell him for a (relative) pittance than lose him on a free.

As a club they aren't miles ahead of us but as a team? I think they definitely are. You can point to the past ten years all you like, I'm on about the short-medium term future.

Look at it this way: maybe the only one of our players who would get into the current Madrid side will indeed be joining Madrid in the summer. Also it's not like Madrid are going to be holding back on spending money either, they can keep improving too.

Finishing second in La Liga and getting into the semi finals of the CL was deemed a failure for Ancelotti, finishing fourth and getting into the CL qualifiers was seen as a good job by LVG. That says something about where our teams currently are. We have a very long way to go and it's not like LVG has totally proven himself here either.

Maybe we will quickly return to the top of European football but Madrid are definitely there or thereabouts right now.

They are ahead of us, not miles ahead. Short-medium term future can change in one window, if we can get it right.

No one besides a couple on here considered finishing 4th as a good job. It was the bare minimum and was accepted because we needed to recover from the disaster last year. Same shit again this season and VG will be back at his paradise in Portugal, and not only for the summer.

Also, this "biggest club in the world" is a very subjective and mostly useless debate. There is no one contender, it changes based on results and revenues. Our revenues can exceed Real's if we can do well in the CL this season. There is little between Barca, Real and us in terms of prestige, following and revenues.

Anyway, I think we are digressing from the matter in hand. I can maybe understand the lure of playing for the biggest club in your home town, just don't buy this career progression line. Also, the reason I am miffed is that this is happening with a year remaining on his contract, which has put us in a very weak position.

Hmm, no we can't because it's a lot easier to get these deals done with Mendes as their agent. We asked Mendes to get De Gea under him so he can make the process easier for us. This has nothing to do with Mendes, De Gea just wants to leave.

Where the club is at fault is giving Mendes his own way too often.

See above, we depend on Mendes to help close deals for us as much as other teams do. De Gea leaving has nothing to do with Mendes? De Gea just wants to go home, Mendes wouldn't convince him either way.

Which would lead to a conversation with us convincing him that as long as they meet the 100m valuation we'll sell to keep him happy, before waiting for the offer of 100m that'll never come and him turning happy to stay?

I would say to DDG and Real Madrid we want Bale plus we will give you £20m or we want £50m cash up front for DDG if you are not happy with these terms he will stay. I'd then say to DDG sign a new contract or be number 2 for the remainder of yours. A £25m loss but sends out a message to all clubs and players in future.

Really? Why can't we? It was De Gea's decision to switch to Mendes bcos I suspect he knew all along that he'll like to move to Real Madrid one day. How many Chelsea, Barcelona and Bayern players are Mendes client? Last I checked, they haven't had much problems getting top class players. The fact of the matter is that Mendes is an ally of Fiorentino Perez and is totally loyal to him and that will count for something. His best clients will go to Real Madrid, he'll force it and do everything he has to make it happen. Di Maria is another, he was all set to sign for PSG, then when it didn't work out, Mendes called up United and we foolishly paid over the odds for another of his client. I know De Gea wants to leave and that decision is his to make, but what gain has our association with Mendes actually brought us? Bebe for 7m is another. My whole point is not based on this alone, am just not comfortable with our too much closeness with Mendes.

46% still think he's staying? Come on now...

People ignoring that the thread asks "Will he be here next season." and not "Is he leaving for Real."
I won't change my vote and most users probably don't give a feck what they voted here a d that they can change it.

He will leave, but I still think we will do the sensible thing and keep him instead of selling him for 15-20m pounds. Real has no reason to pay more.

While part of me wants to agree with you, that scenario would heap a ton of pressure on Valdes - having DDG on the bench. One or two mistakes & the OT crowd like any football fans, would be baying for his return to the team.

Current mood in the press linking RM to to big names that will command a big fee, gets me thinking that DDG may well be at United next season and leave on a free.
if that was the case there is every chance he may sign a new contract should our season go well and we attract the big names to help him win the trophies he, and we all, crave.

Thought that, unless, Madrid are willing to sell for big money too. Might play into our hands re Bale (very long shot), Benzema (longish shot).

487 people more to change their vote,so i can stand alone in "Yes"!
