So he just happens to be in Madrid 2 days before he's due back at training, just for a 'rest'. Hmmm.
If he came back to Manchester he'd basically be subjected to the comments section under his latest tweets, but from actual grown ups with jobs and families and pensions and that.

Good Jesus
Who took the photo? Mendes?

I know he's in his last year but, I fail to see the problem here.

He's one of the best goalkeepers in the world...You're president of one of the best clubs in the world. He wants to go to you, you want him so pay the fee that United want.

For all that has been said, Woodward doesn't seem to be the sort to give a shit about what others want so why Perez is not willing is beyond me.

Just pay and you have your player, your fans are happy, you're significantly strengthen a position you're lacking in, United get the fee they want, the saga ends, happy days!

The hours of Football Manager I've put in has come to use

I wonder if celebs/footballers and the like actually read the comments they get on Twitter? I mean why would you bother considering the amount of abuse they get? I know it's advertising but you would need a really thick skin. I had a look at Katie Hopkins account the other day - if you want to see some really use and hatred go check her. She proper gets involved too!

 it's amusing to me how people have turned on De Gea. I am a little bit the same, but with less passion in my hatred.

Real Madrid in the last seven seasons have won one league championship, Barcelona are dominating that league and look set to continue due to their strong team but also their consistency in play style and team selection, it's not surprising Real Madrid have struggled when they sell their top players for shiny new toys and get rid of better managers for inferior ones, when Benitez is sacked then who?

De Gea surely isn't going there for trophies, whilst the premier league is more competitive than ever he still has a better chance with United in my opinion who are a well run club giving the manager total control of the football. He also will be on less wages in Madrid, a considerable loss in income when you look at it over his playing career.

Either he is attracted by the glamour of playing for Madrid or the fact it is his home city, either way both these are more important factors to him than trophies or money, it's crazy.

Why are people turning on De Gea? He's not come out to say anything publicly.

Think some of them lost their patience with him. You want to go to your family,to your gf where she works(even not sure how good is she in that),you really want to go home and play in that circus of the club? Just place a transfer request, its kinda simple.Maybe those who painting him as a wuss are right.

I just think people are getting a bit tired of his "Nothing","tired","silent" parade..
Just man up and confront the fans and say what the feck you want.
I just like the stance Woody and LVG have taken with him..

The Spanish press/gossip sources are absolutely baffled right now. You can find a story to match every scenario.

My personal favourite combination is that Real Madrid are only willing to offer 25m Euros. DdG (or his agent) told them ages ago that United won't even talk below 40m Euros. Madrid have now told him to wait and they'll come back and negotiate with him in January for a move next summer. DdG doesn't want a year like that.

The wages deal on offer at Madrid is worse than at United, and we may be about to offer him another contract (with a still higher wage and with a release clause) and he's tired of waiting. He thinks they're slow because they aren't committed to moving Casillas out. If Madrid don't sort things out this weekend, he's coming back to Manchester and expecting to sign a contract extension.

I like this version, so it's the one I've chosen to believe today.

If we keep DDG and sign Ramos, it will literally be the biggest steal of the century. If Woody actually pulls this off...

Keeping De Gea will be hanging a sword over your head with a string. Even if he ends up staying this year, we should actively start looking for replacements and get it over with. GK is a position where you can't have a lot of shuffling.

If De Gea signs, Madrid won't deal with us again unless it's for De Gea next summer I reckon. He's our bargaining tool for Ramos.

Perhaps it's because he hasn't signed proposed contract which made much easier for Real to get him.

And he doesn't need to say anything, delaying to sign contract for such a long time with the club tells everything you need to know.

Not neccessarily. He was our bargaining tool, but if Ramos is unhappy, he could become an issue in the Real Madrid camp. If this is no longer over money for him, they'd be wise to get rid of him while they can for a decent fee.

Not sure of this guys reputation, but thought I'd share the tweet and let others decide:

That's properly the reason. I'd rather him make his intentions known rather than keeping us all guessing.

Because some people forgo rational thinking for blind passion

He is Spanish and from Madrid. Think if you were in his shoes wouldn't you want to be at home?

He is not determined to make things happen like Ronnie was , he has left all doors open and will just go with whatever happens. If United agree to sell him, he'll go, if they won't agree he will stay.

I won't believe for a moment that he will stay and go on a free but will sign a new contract.

Yeah, I agree with you, said enough times in this thread - but dont' expect to change peoples minds!

De Gea's handled this as well as anyone should reasonably have expected him too.

Honestly, I'd rather a player say something publicly at least for the sake of fans than stay silent...the least he could've done is either sign a contract (so that we could get more money) or submitted a formal transfer request.

I genuinely can't explain why I'm so pissed. I wouldn't have been pissed if he had officially requested to leave, even with only one year left in his contract and Madrid in the driving sit.
But with time the feeling that he was trying to have it both ways pissed me off. Now maybe I'm wrong and he was genuinely undecided and maybe he will sign a new contract and stay, that's still a possibility.

Let's face it, we know what he wants. But maybe he wants to go to Real but not enough to burn bridges, maybe he's open to staying if we insist and doesn't want the fans turning in on him.

Just a thought, could he still be waiting to see if we get into the CL? Like he said originally as a reason for not renewing.

I thought about it, but then realized that if he plays for us he might not be eligible for Madrid, I can't remember if the qualifiers counts.

I thought you would be cup tied, but apparently not:
UEFA regulations however can clear a player to play for two clubs in Europe in any given season, based upon an exception which applies to participation in the qualifying rounds.

Rule 18.07 states that if a player features in the first, second or third qualifying rounds of either the Champions League or Europa League, he can play for another club in either competition from the group stages onwards, provided his former employers do not reach the group stages themselves.

If a player is involved in any of the aforementioned qualifying rounds for a side which then goes on to play in the group stages of either UEFA competition, he is not eligible to play for another club in Europe in that season.

This is surely to piss off Manchester United. We play in the play-off rounds

The turning on DDG, even more ridiculous the remarks regarding his gf/pic with them both together, sound like they are coming out of a 12 year old kid.

I agree with all but your last line. I think it is quite conceivable he will stay and leave on a free, I would love for him to sign a new contract with a release clause but he is well within his rights not to do that. As long as he gives his all for us next season, and I have no doubt that he will/would, I have no problem with it. It wouldnt be sly, two faced or devious. A contract is a contract, everyone knows where they stand. Manchester United is a, what, £2bn organisation? As everyone who thinks we should pay up for Ramos says, we are rich, we can afford it. So we have a choice: take the money on offer or risk losing him for free. I think we should risk losing him for free if Madrid dont pay up.

People see him not handing in a transfer request as cowardice but I prefer to see it as what you said - keeping his options open. To me it implies he is willing to come back. And in that sense it does strengthen our hand in the negotiation, it makes our position - that we are willing to keep him and risk losing him for free - more viable.

Surely Real Madrid need him to compete with Barcelona especially now Benitez is their manager. At least with De Gea in goal they have a chance of winning a trophy next season.

I can't blame him for not handing a request in, he probably doesn't want to leave United per se, it's probably a tough decision, seems to enjoy it here and he's going to get a ton of respect for as long as he remains here and he knows it. But at the same time, Madrid can tempt pretty much whoever they want, especially when they're from there. If it's going to get sorted with Madrid then it will be sorted regardless of his request at this point, if it's not and he's listed he could end up anywhere, and chances are that anywhere might not suit him any better than here. Hell, could end up at Arsenal if he wasn't careful.

my only hope is that Dave's an Atletico fan and he's just stringing them along for the lolz.
