I will always remember his special goalkeeping technique where he freezes in place and decides not to move as the ball sails past him into the net. There must be a name for it.

Not chasing a lost cause? If he knows he hasn't got a chance of saving the ball, then there is no point in pretending to dive for it.

I hope we are trying to convince him to sign a new contract with a clause that will let him leave next summer for a fee. I think hes a bit of a git if he leaves on a free after the faith we have showed in him, however he is well within his rights.

In my eyes though, my opinion of him is degrading with this saga.

Honestly if he still cant see how they run the club in Madrid and wants to move just to be with his girlfriend, then nothing can be said to change his mind. He will be crucified there if he makes mistakes ...

He believes himself to the best GK in the World.
Madrid believe he is the best GK in the World.
Madrid are the biggest club in the World.
So, why would he not want to move?

Because he would have to work with the biggest manager in the world, who is also a grade A dick.

Fixed it for you.

This.

There is no "biggest club" in the world. There are a handful who are mammoths.

In the last ten years, Real haven't been very successful trophies-wise.

Barca are the "biggest" team in terms of talent and quality.

United are about to leapfrog Real as the "biggest" in terms of revenues.

If he genuinely is still deciding he's really fecking us over even more because it's getting later and later to sign a replacement.

While there may be plans in motion already, should he leave , it's really not gonna help the situation.

Don't think he's still deciding tbh. He's already decided. He's just waiting for the clubs to come to some agreement. Personally, I would give Madrid a deadline and if they don't meet it, tell them wait for him next season. Worried that this will drag on and interrupt our season.

Because Real Madrid have won one league championship in seven seasons and with the way Perez runs it by getting rid of top players when he feels like it and getting rid of top managers they will struggle to get the consistency needed to change that trend, De Gea will earn less at Real Madrid and quite possibly over the next 10 years win less too. He's going to a club where we aren't even sure the manager gets to pick his team, if that's what he genuinely wants then fair enough.

He's got nothing left to decide. If both clubs work out a deal, he moves. And if not, he stays for one more season.

I think he'll see out his contract. For the simple reason that I can't see Madrid letting Ramos leave, and Ramos isn't likely to give an ultimatum either. And if there's no Ramos, I think we won't deal. I'm actually hoping for this outcome, provided we have a back-up plan for the CB position.

You do realise he's from Madrid? He wants to go home.

Not really. He wouldn't have left Athletico, if that was the case. He thinks he is moving to a better club. Anyone who thinks otherwise is clearly wearing red tinted glasses.

At the age he was I don't think he could've turned down the move to us. Agree totally that he thinks he's moving to a better club and him going home outweighs any of the negatives surrounding the running of the club.

"Most valuable".

Exactly "most valuable" does not make Madrid the biggest, it makes them one of the biggest for instance we have been named biggest footballing brand does that make us the best?

In my eyes the best are all level with each other

United, Barca, Liverpool, Real, Bayern, Juventus, and AC Milan.

Okay, so most valuable = Madrid.

Most pulling power? This has to be Madrid. Most players want to play for Madrid if they have the opportunity.
We lost Ronaldo and now possibly DDG.
2 seasons ago, we tried to get Bale - Bale had 1 club on his mind: Madrid.
When Kroos was available, I read in a paper that if he moved to England, he'd only move to Chelsea due to the Mourinho factor. In the end, he chose....you guessed it: Madrid.

What about most fans? Barcelona?

I realise that you are MUFC fans, as am I, but you have to be honest with yourselves. Madrid (or possibly Barca) are the biggest club in the World.
While SAF was here and we were able to compete in CL finals, I'd say we were the biggest, but after a 7th place and 4th place and having lost SAF, our value has fallen.

I remember when our fans were saying that Mourinho was not good enough to manage us, but Moyes was? Some of you are beginning to use the same logic, here as well.

Your really negative to United Sunama. I'm highly spiritual and it's like your possessed by a City fan. The fact is every situation is unique. People go on about how many players Madrid have 'taken' from us. Other then Ronaldo, the rest had fallings out with Sir Alex. Ruud was very poor before he got sold to Madrid. Heinze? He wanted to go Liverpool not Madrid. We sold him to Madrid for him not to go to Pool. Becks? Would have stayed (maybe) but he wound Sir Alex up. This is a guy that, thanks to his wife, started believing his own press. Hernandez? Did a stupid thing but he didn't do too bad there.

So it's not all that. Ronaldo we didn't want to lose but it's closer to home. Bale? Glory hunter. If he was a fan of them back then, it was because they paid an awful lot of money for some good players. It's just a perception. You could argue Barcelona saw the best out of Ronaldo (Brazilian). Zidane moved to Madrid when he was 29. Figo? Was easy for them. No british club, would be stupid enough to allow their biggest rivals to buy their player like that. It wouldn't happen.

So this pulling power stuff is an illusion. Some of it because it's easier for a player to integrate. Some of it because, Madrid used that model to win over the glory hunter demographic. In the case of Bale though, I suspect he went there for Ronaldo. It's easy to say this and that when United have come off two seasons after losing Sir Alex. De Gea's situation is plain simple. He's Spanish. His family including gf are in Spain. Regardless of what we will offer him, he's still young and it's not like he will be poor going to Madrid. In addition to that, Spain have basically ignored De Gea. De Gea should have been playing for Spain in the last competition but the dimwits stick to Iker who was useless.

From a United perspective, you have Munich feeling the need to say 'and we won't sell anymore players to United'. They didn't say we won't sell anymore players. They said to United, because they know the message it reeks of and we should have said the same thing ages ago. So whatever happens, finally we're doing the right thing and it might cost us money but ultimately, David is a home bird.

If any club is more attractive than the rest, it's Madrid. I very, very, very strongly suspect that the vast majority of neutrals would agree that Madrid are more attractive than United. Accepting that doesn't mean we're putting ourselves down.

Yes a lot of players want to join Madrid but there are an awful lot who proberly rejected them, it does help a lot if you control most of your country's media like Madrid do you'd never know who turned them down.If I recall correctly Ronaldo joined us over Madrid as a teenager.

Madrid had been after Bale for two years put a lot of groundwork in on the transfer and hadn't just appointed an idiot as manager.Under Moyes bale would have proberly been stuck on the wing lumping crosses in.

All the reports I read all suggested Moyes had already agreed a deal with Kroos but when LVG took over he didn't want him.

In regards to most fans that report you linked to was written using Twitter and Facebook, doubt that represents the whole world.

Still think Madrid are one of the biggest but not the only top dog.

As for DDG I'm resigned to losing him at some point hopefully we get Ramos or a world record fee for a keeper,if not then keep him a year.I don't think he's going to have a very good time though when he gets to Madrid as he looks the sort to crumble under abuse from his own fans and that's guaranteed to happen.

Debatable considering the two best players that moved to spain in recent years both went to Barcelona.

Those three are just not on the same level, regardless of history. The Italian league is just too second rate, and Liverpool just isn't in the same stratosphere as United, real, Barca or Bayern by any measure. Their foreign fan base is all based off success in the 80's.

I guess so although Juventus does seem to be becoming a threat again reaching the Champions league final last year was a great accomplishment.I do tend to include teams with a great history hence Liverpool.

Been thinking how important a GK is and how much more it would be worth to us to keep him a year and have an assault on trophies (including league with him) and losing him on a free vs cashing in on him (even if we get Ramos in return).

It will give us a year of getting an actual good replacement rather than rushing one in. His one on one save last night was an important part of the match (right after that we take the lead). I wouldnt be surprised if that happened quite a bit next season.

Agreed although I think a WR fee for a keeper and he's gone £36M+

The two biggest signings over the past couple of seasons are Neymar and Suarez both of them went to Barca.

All I can advise is that I left a job I really liked, working with people I got on with, to, supposedly, better my career and ended up completely ruining my career.

He always seems genuinely happy at United, he will be mad to give that up.

So... considering it looks like he's staying for another season, it's a pretty good job he didn't kick up a fuss, didn't hand in a transfer request and didn't try force a move... isn't it?

It is indeed. I am looking forward to my £900 payout in September :)

Keep El Beatles happy and surely Dave will want to stay. Herrera, mata and Chicha surely make up for Edurne, right?

Hernandez was probably texting him all last season telling him how amazing Real is.
