That's a fair price imo but we're running out of time to find a proper replacement, our best chance is to involve navas in the deal.

You mean...like a swap?
Many people talk about swap deals, but I never see any, amongst large clubs. Ever.
Can someone tell me when was the last time we made a deal involving a swap? Genuine question.

Thanks for that info.
So that happened in 2009 - 6 years ago.
This is a very rare occurrence - given this, why do so many fans suggest swap deals?
I remember when we sold Di Maria, fans suggested a swap with one of their players.

With regards to DDG: I think we should swallow our pride and take the money. We already have Romero and DDG just doesn't want to play for us. In his last pre-season game for us, it almost seemed like he was trying to do a bad job on purpose (he was that bad). Since then, LVG has no confidence in him.

Next time Madrid want our best player, they will most likely do the same thing and get him BUT we can deal with that situation when it arises. For now, we should get rid of DDG and focus on the players who want to play for MUFC.

I think we have planed to sell him for a certain amount of money, he isn't even playing anymore, so we should take the money. Don't forget all the newspaper talk about him if he makes ONE mistake, then the january signing for Real and again paper talk....

Probably worth noting on this that the Spanish transfer window closes earlier than ours this summer, at the end of tomorrow as opposed to 6pm on Tuesday.

Cillessen starts for Ajax today incidentally.

Why are you ignoring what LvG said, that Dave is only going to sit out games till the transfer window ends?

No, he said that after that we will see, as it depends on his psychological state and LVG already said that de Gea isn't ready now, so why do you think he will be ready after the first of september?

He'll need to be ready. He'll have Euros in mind and he will have to be in shape and ready.

Swap deals don't happen simply because it's rarely convenient, and when they do happen they are separate deals. In this case it makes so much sense, they've already singed casilla and i don't suppose him or navas would be thrilled not to even make the bench.

We said we weren't selling for Madrid's peanuts. We named the price and Madrid knows it.
I think we should keep him even if they want to pay though. And somehow I doubt they will pay.

I think selling him at all will be a mistake. He saved us so many points last season. I know Romero has started well, but I think he will cost us a lot of points ultimately. I'd rather keep DDG and if he goes for free at the end of the season, so be it.

He's not leaving. No strong reports have come out and Navas doing well last night will have helped us.

He's here to stay for this season.

The only thing is, next summer we'll have no choice but to give him to Madrid for less than peanuts. That's going to sting, especially if he has another world class season for us.

That's true, but the press will be all over us if any mistakes happen. As I said for 29m pounds I would sell him, as he clearly doesn't want to be here.

Good luck trying to get a club to part with their number 1 with 2 days to go. It's like Chelsea and stones in a way. Had the transfer request and 40mil come a month back, he'd be at Chelsea. Not now though. Even if we sell now, I can't see us getting a top keeper in unless we just lose our shit and bid 30mil or so on a cillisen which I'm sure we won't.

You can't throw a 30m investment in the bin

I think De Gea would have been better of signing a new contract with us and then wanting to leave. That way, we might have at least avoided this cockfight between Woodward and Madrid. As it is, Madrid have 2 competent goalkeepers in their squad and we have decided he isn't ready. The one big loser is all of this De Gea himself.

Well he'll have a wc season which will help us and we'll have a whole season to sort out a replacement.

I agree. And all being said I think he's staying anyway.

If he does go and they ship Navas out, and De Gea takes a bit of time to settle (what with having no preseason), I wonder how long it will take for the Madrid faithful to get on his back.

Definitely. He would have got his dream move at Madrid in next season, while for these 18 or so months would have earned three times as much as he gets now. While also would be playing instead of watching Romero.

If he doesn't get transferred tomorrow, he (and Mendez) have played their cards very badly. Kind of weird, considering that Mendez was in the same position with Ronaldo before and played it very good. But then, there were many reports that Mendez aked De Gea to extend the contract and to stay here for the next two seasons. Maybe De Gea became too cocky, in which case, he has only himself to blame.

What he'll realise is that if he goes through a dodgy run of form, the Madrid circus won't be as supportive as we were.

Club bending over yet again for Madrid. What a surprise.

If that were the case we would have sold him at the beginning of the window.

£29million for a want-away keeper with a year left on his contract is stellar business. Madrid will be more wary with dealing with us in the future considering how much we've hardballed over this. Under Fergie-Gill we'd capitulate early and sell severely under value.

Who cares about business? We needed to finally make a statement that Real can't push us around.

We only sold on the cheap when we wanted to get rid. Ruud and Beckham were prime examples of that. Conversely, Ronaldo stayed on for a season and we got a world record fee a year later. And there were reports that Ruud wanted to leave two seasons earlier, but Fergie put his foot down. Basically, we've not done anything different, in fact it may be the first time we sell Real a player that we wanted to keep..the summer they've shown interest.

Irrespective if whether we wanted to get rid, we could have still fetched much more for Ruud and Beckham if we had wanted to. Ditto Ronaldo, he had recently signed a lengthy contract so I wager they wouldn't have said no if we hardballed to around the 100million mark with him.

Real smashed the world record for Ronaldo! And we were desperate to sell Ruud and Beckham. We sold RVP for peanuts this summer, perhaps we could've got a few million more. For some reason we offload on the cheap.

And how times have changed we used a pride ourselves on the fact that we only sold players that we wanted to get rid of. Now? Real love cherry picking our best players.

Twice if this happens.
