So much for seeking a world record fee for a GK
We were not going to get anywhere near that tbf especially on deadline day but the whole handling of the saga has been a joke.

Word is LVG has always liked Navas, so maybe in his head he always thought whatever De Gea deal will include Navas? It's more about the fact that instead of just selling him the moment we realized he would be going, we've left it to the last minute to find a possible replacement. We don't look any better for trying to stand firm only to cave at the last minute, and we've wasted an entire transfer window and a preseason that could have been to identify a suitable replacement, and bed him into the team.
It's quite unbelievable just how incompetent we look.
Right, embarrassing.
If I recall, there were reports of us wanting £30-35m.How much were we holding out for? Are we getting what we asked for or are Madrid ripping us off as usual?
Then we should have sorted it out on 1st of July.Word is LVG has always liked Navas, so maybe in his head he always thought whatever De Gea deal will include Navas?
too true. We've f*cked about for 3 months and now we're left without any sort of decent goalkeeper. Woodward needs his backside booted from here to kingdom come. It's more about the fact that instead of just selling him the moment we realized he would be going, we've left it to the last minute to find a possible replacement. Apparently Marca have said the two deals are separate.
De Gea is agreed already, and negotiations for Keylor Navas begin now.
Then we should have sorted it out on 1st of July.
We never said that. WUM.
Well if the idea was to sell him then surely the club should have bought a replacement, LVG kept saying that he would see after 2nd. Frankly now we are left with an average keeper and about 8 hrs to get a new one
If I recall, there were reports of us wanting £30-35m.
The reports of what Real was willing to pay are very close to what we've actually gotten.
That Alex Shaw guy is the leader of negative United opinions. Everything the club does is negative from his perspective.
That word again.
You'd swear stuff like this has never happened before. It happens all the fecking time.
We've caved on our asking price. How many other clubs are selling their best player on the cheap on the last day of the window? Most are overpaying to get what they want this late on.So we wanted 30m+, Madrid initially offered half of that, and now they allegedly increased it to over 20m+. And we are the ones who caved?![]()
How? If De Gea was judged to be too distracted to play, surely it was the correct decision. How does this change anything?Sticking DDG in the stands and playing Romero all month has been utterly pointless. Well fecking done Ed and Louis.
If he goes and we're sticking with Romero then it's stupid imo. If we get him to stay, giving us a season to pinpoint his replacement then I think it's a decent move. I've no doubt with the euro's coming up that he'll be fine to play when the window closes.
I think he means stringing out letting him go over a few months rather than specifically not playing De Gea in the opening few weeks. How? If De Gea was judged to be too distracted to play, surely it was the correct decision. How does this change anything?
this is the mindboggling part. lets sign another player who doesn't want to be hereTo be fair, IF that fee is true after all of this time then that is fecking pathetic from our side - there's no getting around it. Also given that there's been no talk of a transfer request, how much of that fee will be diverted to DDG and Mendes?
If we are trying to get Navas and he doesn't want to come here then I'd prefer us not to go for him at all - we've been burned like that before; just last season in fact.
Any guesses how much more Cillessen would cost than the rumoured fee for DDG? How much out of pocket will we end-up being as well as ending-up with a weaker goalkeeper if we went for him?
It's not great really, is it?
Not if Van Gaal's plan was to either keep hold of De Gea or get Navas once an agreement could be reached. Not saying that was necessarily the plan, but it's a possibility.I think he means stringing out letting him go over a few months rather than specifically not playing De Gea in the opening few weeks.
For instance, if we signed a 'keeper earlier we could've had a pre-season with him and been able to scout more options.
That's of course entirely hypothetical, and I have no doubt in my mind that we could have reached a deal earlier in the window at a similar fee, if we hadn't insisted on the ridiculous posturing of refusing to go through with a deal that, at first didn't include Ramos, and then when that ship sailed, matched a valuation far off what Madrid were willing to and eventually ended up paying.Erm Madrid didnt want to pay us the 22-25m that they are paying now?
Or was it just that Van Gaal was too distracted to play him? How? If De Gea was judged to be too distracted to play, surely it was the correct decision. How does this change anything?
Yes it does but not to the real big clubs. You won't see it happening to Real or Barca or Bayern, where they take a stance and then give in at the last minute without their demands being met. Heck, this is not something I have noticed with either Chelsea or City either. That word again.
